Mainz warn Manchester United off starlet Andre Schurrle

Young striker to stay in west Germany...
Mainz have warned Manchester United that they cannot prise Andre Schurrle from the west German outfit.

Schurrle, 19, is one of the most highly-rated young strikers in the Bundesliga and has also caught the eye of Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen and Hoffenheim. After following last season's haul of five goals in 33 appearances with a strike in one substitute's appearances this term, interest in the £8.2 million rated starlet has increased.

Speaking to BILD, general manager Christian Heidel was convinced Mainz held all the cards to keep the Germany under-21 international at the club.

"The transfer window is shut - that's a fact and no Bayern Munich or Manchester United can change that," Heidel said.

"We have not had any enquiries from those clubs and we have a contract [with Schurrle] so we are extremely relaxed about this."
