Mario Balotelli will be wearing the No.45 shirt this season at Manchester City after persuading Irish youngster Greg Cunningham to swap numbers.
Cunningham, a Republic of Ireland international who has recently signed a new four-year deal at the club, will now wear No.22.
Balotelli wore the No.45 whilst at previous club Inter and was delighted that his own personal tradition could continue at Eastlands.
"I have worn the number all my football life and wanted to carry on here at City. Greg was kind enough to swap," the Italian told his new club's official website.
Cunningham himself had no issues with swapping numbers.
“I had no real attachment to it except that I made my debut wearing it," he noted.
“I was asked if I minded changing shirt numbers and I didn’t have any problem with that at all.
“I’ve taken on No.22 now, which is Richard Dunne’s old shirt number, so I’ve big boots to fill! Hopefully, I can do the shirt justice as obviously I’m a big admirer of Dunney.
“I’ve not told him but I’ll let him know on the next Ireland trip!”
