Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano admits he wants a 'change of life' away from Anfield

Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano has admitted that he wants to leave Anfield.

The Argentine has been linked with Barcelona and Inter in recent weeks and has now made it clear that he does not want to remain on Merseyside.

However, he maintains that he has no issue with the club or its fans, but is rather seeking a new challenge and a change of lifestyle.

"My problem is not to play for Liverpool. I'm very proud to play for Liverpool. It's another thing," he told Sky Sports News.

"I said to him [new Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson] that maybe for my life I prefer to change the country, not to change the club - that is the fact.

"Sometimes you can see all the things that the papers or the press say, but at the end the only thing I can say is thank you to everyone in Liverpool because they supported me all the time, from the beginning until now."

Mascherano's representative in Spain, Horacio Zandonadi, insists that a deal to take the player to Catalonia is easy enough to conclude at this stage.

"He wants to come, he'd love to, but the decision is in the hands of Barcelona. But economically it is a very easy deal to finalize," Horacio Zandonadi told Ona FM.

Liverpool are believed to have placed a £20 million price tag on Mascherano's head, but Zandonadi also hinted that that price could drop if Barca include Aleksandr Hleb in the deal as a makeweight.
