Manchester United striker Federico Macheda backs Mario Balotelli's expected move to Manchester City

Youngsters puts aside cross-town rivalry
Manchester United striker Federico Macheda has backed Mario Balotelli's decision to chase a big money transfer to Manchester City.

Balotelli, 19, has been linked with a switch to the Blues all summer. At the weekend, manager Roberto Mancini hinted an agreement was close after weeks of negotiations.

Speaking to skysports.com at the Italy under-21 training camp, Macheda was sure his compatriot would impress in the Premier League as youngsters are given a greater chance.

He said: "He's coming to play in England because in the Premier League he will be a protagonist.

"I'm proud to be playing in a championship that's different to ours [Italian] where a young player has the chance of playing.

"For a while there was a possibility that I would be sold and then Manchester [United] confirmed me and I'm delighted with that choice.

"In England someone like Balotelli would feel good and would play. I'm delighted he's been picked by (Italy senior coach Cesare) Prandelli [to play Ivory Coast in Wednesday's friendly], whether he deserves it or not only the future will tell."
