Aston Villa are interested in Everton's Steven Pienaar as the Toffees attempt to tie the player to a new contract.

After starring in his home nation's World Cup earlier in the summer, Pienaar has been linked with a move away from Goodison Park and is growing frustrated at the length of time it has taken for the club to sort out a new deal, according to the Daily Mail.

O'Neill could be looking for a new creative midfielder as James Milner edges closer to a move to Manchester City, which may even be concluded in the coming week.

Both Tottenham and European Champions Inter Milan have been credited with an interest in the ex-Borussia Dortmund man but have been put off by Everton's £15 million valuation.

Pienaar has made 58 appearances for the Toffees since joining permanently in April 2008, scoring six goals. He was also voted last season's Player of the Season.
