Manchester United plotting £25m swoop for Netherlands & Inter midfielder Wesley Sneijder - report

Manchester United are believed to be considering a £25 million splurge on Netherlands and Inter midfielder Wesley Sneijder.

The 26-year-old joined the Italian champions last summer and became the final piece in the jigsaw for manager Jose Mourinho, as his presence and creative flair saw the Milan-based club lift the Champions League trophy in May.

The Dutchman has since gone on to put in sublime performances in the 2010 World Cup for his country, earning plaudits en route to guiding his side to a semi-final clash with Uruguay.

Now The Mirror claims Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson is weighing up a £25m move for the player, following in the footsteps of his ex-rival Mourinho by injecting some creativity into his midfield.

The Old Trafford boss is reported to have been on the trail of the former Real Madrid midfielder for a few weeks now, possibly due to the requirement of replacements for ageing veterans Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes - who are both in the twilight of their careers.

It is said that Sneijder is playing the waiting game, to see how new manager Rafael Benitez handles things at San Siro.
