Birmingham City vice-chairman Peter Pannu: Spending spree will continue

Birmingham City vice-chairman Peter Pannu insists the club’s recent spending spree will continue throughout the summer.

Blues owner Carson Yeung said when he took over that boss Alex McLeish would be allowed £20-£40 million to spend in the transfer market, and the Scot has already splashed out £12m on Ben Foster and Nikola Zigic in the last few weeks.

Cameron Jerome was Birmingham’s top scorer last season with 10 goals and now Christian Benitez has returned to parent club Santos Laguna, the Blues are setting their sights on a new striker.

Pannu told the Express & Star: “We’re pleased with the business we have done so far, but we are all of the view that we haven’t done yet.

“We still need a tricky, fast, cheeky sort of ace striker to support our other players and Nikola Zigic.”

Birmingham are still yet to agree a fee with Wigan Athletic over a move for Charles N’Zogbia, while the Blues have also been linked with moves for strikers Bobby Zamora of Fulham and Palermo’s Fabrizio Miccoli.
