Liverpool to step up pursuit of Leicester's Chilwell

Liverpool will intensify their efforts in the upcoming week to land Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell, Goal can reveal.

The 19-year-old, who has also been extensively monitored by Arsenal, has told the Premier League champions he wants to be part of Jurgen Klopp’s reconstruction at Anfield.

While the defender is seemingly set on a move to Merseyside, the Reds anticipate the Foxes will demand a higher fee than they are willing to pay for a player that will enter the final year of his deal this summer.

Reluctant sellers Leicester are aware the teenager, who is representing England Under-20s at the 2016 Toulon Tournament, is viewed as a future full international.

They also know Chilwell’s leadership abilities, left-foot delivery, composure and confidence in possession make him one of the country’s most promising prospects.

Leicester rejected a £3.5 million offer for the full-back from Arsenal last summer and have attempted to persuade him to agree new terms at the King Power Stadium to no avail.

The clubs will escalate negotiations next week over the talent whom Liverpool were alerted to by Klopp's best friend David Wagner, the manager of Huddersfield.

The youngster impressed on loan with the Terriers before rejoining the Premier League champions in January.

Meanwhile, the Reds are expected to confirm the signing of Mainz goalkeeper Loris Karius by Wednesday and are waiting on assurances from Mario Gotze.
