Newcastle are ready to hand in-form midfielder Moussa Sissoko a new deal in an attempt to ward off any potential January suitors, Goal understands.
France international Sissoko has been in top form at the start of the 2014-15 campaign, playing a key role in the Magpies' surge up the table that saw them win five Premier League games on the spin before defeat to West Ham.
The former Toulouse star has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal although Goal understands that Alan Pardew's side have no intention of selling one of their key assets unless a sizeable offer is brought to the table.
Sissoko, who was red carded in the 1-0 loss at West Ham on Saturday, still has four years remaining on his current contract although Newcastle are keen to offer improved terms in an attempt to ward off potential interest from rival clubs.
Goal understands that Newcastle are unlikely to strengthen their squad in the January window although MK Dons sensation Dele Alli remains on the club's radar.
The 18-year-old, who has scored eight goals for the League One side thus far this season, has been attracting plenty of interest from the Premier League but Pardew's side are confident they can persuade the England Under-19 international to move to Tyneside.
