Tiote keen to leave Newcastle and hints at Arsenal move

The 28-year-old Ivory Coast international says he is ready for a new challenge but insists his preference is to remain in the Premier League
Chiekh Tiote admits he is keen to leave Newcastle United and claims Arsenal have been among the clubs to register their interest.

The 28-year-old joined Newcastle from FC Twente in 2010, but has been linked with a move to Arsene Wenger’s side during several transfer windows.

Alan Pardew revealed last week that Newcastle are preparing to offer the Ivory Coast international a new contract at the end of the season, but the midfielder has expressed his desire to leave St James’ Park and his preference is to remain in the Premier League.

“I want to leave. I've spent four years with Newcastle. I think I have reached a stage where it's maybe time to look elsewhere for a new challenge,” Tiote told the media in Ivory Coast.

“I will focus on upcoming games and let's see what happens between now and December.

“It is true there were contacts for me from Arsenal and a club in Russia. I'd prefer to stay in England.”
