Norwich reputation not the problem for Alderweireld, says agent

Norwich City's reputation was not the reason for the collapse of the transfer of Toby Alderweireld, according to the player's agent.

Both Ajax and Norwich had reportedly agreed a fee, believed to be in the region of £7 million for the 24-year-old defender, but the deal collapsed with speculation that the Canaries' standing in the game prevented the deal happening.

But the player's agent, Soren Lerby, says that it was a failure to agree personal terms that led to the deal breaking down of the deal.

"The problem was not that Norwich didn't fit Toby's ambitions, but we simply failed to agree terms," Lerby told Algemeen Dagblad.

The highly-rated Belgium international has been courting interest from other Premier League clubs including Liverpool, Everton and Manchester United - with the defender scoring against the Red Devils in last season's Europa League.
