Southampton boss Pochettino admits interest in Damiao, Banega and Wanyama

The Argentine manager is looking into the possibility of signing the trio, though admits he had hoped to have all transfer business wrapped up before the start of pre-season
Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed the club are interested in signing Internacional striker Leandro Damiao, Valencia midfielder Ever Banega and Celtic's Victor Wanyama.

The Saints have yet to give up on signing the Bhoys' Kenyan midfielder despite being rejected by the 22-year-old, while Brazil striker Damiao has been valued at £21.5m by his club.

Pochettino says talks are progressing on all three fronts as he looks to sign "two or three key players" who can have an immediate impact on the Southampton starting XI.

He told reporters: "We manage a lot of information about very good players. One of them is Damiao, also Banega and also Wanyama.

"We are managing the situation as well as we can at the moment. The main thing is that we as a club, Southampton, are managing when these negotiations happen so that is what is happening.

"We are managing when these players are going to be signed and how we sign them.

"Our goals are very clear. I am also not trapped by the fact that I said I wanted to have our transfer window closed by July 1.

"We are not interested in 15 or 20 players. We are interested in maybe two or three key players."
