Maicon wants to prove himself at Manchester City - agent

The Brazilian has been linked with a return to Serie A after a difficult and injury-troubled first season in England, but his agent insists he will fight for his place
Maicon wants to stay and prove himself at Manchester City despite the departure of Roberto Mancini, the player's agent has revealed.

The Brazilian was brought to the Etihad Stadium by his former Inter boss last summer, but a combination of injuries and the form of Pablo Zabaleta ensured he started just seven matches for City.

But Roberto Calenda insists his client has no desire to leave, and instead wants to fight for his place and earn a way back into the Brazil squad in time for next summer's World Cup.

"He has had an unfortunate season, it can happen," Calenda told Radio Sportiva.

"Now he wants to prove his worth in a Manchester City jersey and achieve a call to the World Cup with Brazil."

Roma had been linked with offering Maicon a route back to Serie A after a difficult first season in England, but Calenda believes the financial constraints of Italian clubs make a deal unfeasible.

"Interest from Roma? Italian football is going through a bad time economically so it is difficult to take players with this kind of salary," he added.
