The South Korea international is confident that the Werkself can offer him the conditions necessary to make the next step in his development

Heung-Min Son has revealed his excitement at the prospect of following in the footsteps of Andre Schurrle at Bayer Leverkusen, after joining the club from Hamburg.

Schurrle is on the verge of leaving Bayer for Chelsea after the two clubs agreed a transfer fee and Son is hopeful of embarking on a similar career path as the Germany international.

"Playing in the Champions League is a very interesting prospect for me. And a lot of players have already made the next step up in their development at Leverkusen, with Schurrle as a good example," Son was quoted as saying by Bild.

"I think it is quite important for me to keep on developing, also with an eye on the 2014 World Cup.

"I can only thank HSV and their fans for all their support. Hamburg will forever have a place in my heart."

The 20-year-old signed a contract until 2018 with B04 on Thursday in a deal believed to be worth €10 million [£8.5m].
