Valdes talks going well, says Zubizarreta

The legendary goalkeeper is confident that negotiations for the contract renewal of Barca's No.1 are on track and has denied rumours the 30-year-old may leave in 2014
Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta believes talks over a new deal between the club and goalkeeper Victor Valdes are going well.

Recently there have been rumours that the shot-stopper was considering leaving Camp Nou once his current contact expires in 2014.

However, Zubizarreta has quelled such speculation and insists that everything is on course for a new contract for the player.

"The conversations we've had with his agent and with him are going well. I won't talk about rumours," Zubizarreta told AS.

The former Spain international also took the chance to praise David Villa who scored two goals in Barcelona's comfortable 5-0 win over Cordoba in the Copa del Rey on Thursday night.

He added: "The public's reaction and that of his team-mates was excellent. It's not just the two goals he scored though, he's such a high quality player."
