I want to return to Ajax one day - Everton defender John Heitinga

EXCLUSIVE

Dutch international John Heitinga told the Ajax fans that he'd return to the Amsterdam ArenA later on in his career when he left the Godenzonen for Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2008, and the Everton defender has now again confirmed his desire to return to Ajax one day.

"There's a big chance that I'll return to Ajax one day," Heitinga told Goal.com NL.

"It's too soon to move back to Amsterdam already though. I don't know when I'll return, but I left only three seasons ago. I'm eager to return to Ajax later on in my career, but I want to play abroad for a few more years first."

The 27-year-old also had his say about the current situation at the Amsterdam side, but Heitinga was reluctant to discuss internal affairs.

"I don't want to talk about the structure at Ajax or things like that. I don't really know what's going on within the club and am a bit of an outsider on this subject," he said.

"Ajax are desperate to win that third star on their shirt. They have gone through some difficult times recently, but they'll get the chance to bounce back when they take on PSV at the weekend.

"It's now up to the players to show their class."
