Ashley Cole wins England's player of the year for 2010, but who would you have voted for?

Defender beats competition from Steven Gerrard and Adam Johnson
Chelsea defender Ashley Cole has been named England’s 2010 player of the year by supporters on Monday.

In a year to forget for the Three Lions, who were knocked out of the World Cup by Germany in the last 16, Cole has stood out as a consistent performer and a certain starter for Fabio Capello’s men.

Despite coming in for plenty of criticism from England fans in the past due to events off the pitch, Cole now appears to have won the fans over with his displays for the national team.

But did Cole’s performances really warrant being named England’s player of the year?

Steven Gerrard, who scored England’s first goal of the World Cup in the group match against USA, finished second in the vote conducted on the FA’s official website, while Adam Johnson was in third place, despite not becoming a regular in the squad until August.

Who would you have voted for as England’s player of 2010? Cole, Gerrard, Johnson or somebody else? Or did nobody deserve to win?
