Roma have rejected a £38 million bid from Manchester City for midfielder Daniele De Rossi, according to La Stampa.
De Rossi has long been linked with the Premier League's big spenders, and Roma fans will likely greet the reported move with both relief and concern as the club seemingly did not consider the offer enough for the Italian international.
However, the Lupi's financial situation has been well documented, leading to speculative rumours suggesting they are trying to hold out for a better offer from either City or Real Madrid, who were recently linked with a £50m bid.
De Rossi rejected the Merengues last year after they had offered him a €10m a year salary and he even suggested that he would never leave his hometown club.
But City boss Roberto Mancini is a keen admirer of the player, and the Italian midfielder could realistically be the Premier League outfit's primary target this summer.
