Chelsea are reportedly set to stun Manchester City by beating the Citizens to the signature of Santos’ teenage sensation Neymar.
According to the News of the World, the 18-year-old was expected to be part of the deal that saw Robinho move back to Brazil.
However, negotiations are on the verge of collapsing which could allow Chelsea to bag the sought-after youngster for £30 million.
Manchester City reportedly secured a first option clause on Neymar when Robinho joined Santos earlier this season, as part of a six-month loan deal.
The report claims though that the Brazilian side are struggling to pay Robinho’s wages, meaning any deal could break down. Such an outcome would lead the former Real Madrid man returning to Eastlands and handing Chelsea the opportunity to land Neymar.
Yet Carlo Ancelotti’s men are expected to face stiff competition to sign the young Brazilian, in particular from Real Madrid. The tabloid report claims that los Blancos believe they already have a pre-contract agreement in place, something Santos deny.
To complicate matters further, Neymar’s economic rights are believed to be owned by Santos and Sonda, a South American management group.
Meanwhile, the player’s representatives have been sending out mixed messages over the player’s future.
Neymar's agent Wagner Ribeiro insisted recently that while Santos do not want to sell one of their prized assets, they are expecting big offers for him this summer.
