Jozy Altidore apologises to Hull City fans on Twitter following dismissal against Sunderland

Emotions got the better of American striker...
Jozy Altidore used his Twitter page to say sorry to Hull City fans for getting sent off during Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Sunderland.

It was a day to forget for Altidore whose Hull side were relegated from the Premier League, as well as receiving a red card for heatbutting Sunderland's Alan Hutton.

The 20-year-old, who is on loan from Villarreal, has now played his last game for the Tigers as he will serve a three-match ban for the incident.

Altidore apologised to fans and admits he made a costly mistake in the defeat which all but confirmed Hull’s relegation to the Championship.

"I'm so sorry about yesterday. Made a stupid, immature and costly mistake," he posted to fans.

"I apologise to Hull City and the fans who I let down. I let my emotions get the best of me and lost my composure.

"Believe it or not this year playing for Hull was to date the best trip I've ever been on."
