RUMOURS: Man Utd plotting £25 million Varane swoop

The France international could now be heading for Old Trafford after a transfer failed to materialise back in 2011 when Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge of the club

Manchester United are plotting a £25 million move for Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane, according to the Mirror.

The 23-year-old France international has been unable to break up the established Blancos defensive pairing of Sergio Ramos and Pepe under Zinedine Zidane and is on the hunt for first team football.

It’s not the first time United have tracked the Madrid man: Sir Alex Ferguson watched Varane when in charge of the Old Trafford side back in 2011 but instead secured a £16 million deal for Blackburn's Phil Jones.

Champions League football could be a sticking point for Varane, however, with United’s hopes of qualifying for the competition next season now hanging by a thread.
