West Ham United v Brighton & Hove Albion Live Commentary, 01/12/2021

1 - 1
T. Souček (5)
N. Maupay (89)
London Stadium

An entertaining game then, with a bit of late drama added in! That's all for now though, goodbye!
Maupay, who missed several easier chances beforehand, is the hero for the away side with his overhead finish. Brighton's next game is against Southampton, whereas West Ham host Chelsea in a London derby.
And that's it! Just when you thought West Ham were grinding out a solid victory, Brighton stun them in the last few minutes with a moment of magic from Maupay. Potter's side, who suffered three injuries and had to play the last ten minutes a man down, will be delighted with the character they showed to grab a point. Moyes however, will surely reckon his side should have killed off the game when they had the chance to.
M. Antonio
Yellow Card
West Ham United
90' + 6' Antonio goes in the book after tripping Lamptey as he tries to start a counter-attack.
90' + 6' The corner is cleared away, but the ball comes back to Antonio on the left. His delivery is a poor one but it's behind for another corner!
90' + 5' West Ham are urged on by the home support. They pass the ball around Brighton's area, looking for an opening. Coufal delivers from deep and Lamptey is forced to head it behind for a corner. The home fans roar in delight.

90' There will be six minutes of added time.
N. Maupay
Yellow Card
Brighton & Hove Albion
90' Maupay is booked for his celebration.
T. Lamptey
Brighton & Hove Albion
89' The cross from Lamptey was slightly behind Maupay, but a stunning overhead kick means the away side are level!
N. Maupay
Brighton & Hove Albion
89' GOAL! The ten men of Brighton have equalised! Lamptey whips in a cross from the right and Maupay acrobatically puts it in the top left-hand corner!
88' Masuaku does well to get down the byline on the left, but slips at the crucial moment and the ball goes out for a goal-kick.
87' Lanzini is pulled back by Bissouma as he looks to break clear on halfway. Free-kick is given to West Ham. Lanzini has looked really lively since coming on.
85' Lallana has left the field. Brighton have used up their three substitutes, so they'll have to finish the game with ten men!
85' Lanzini breaks clear of a few challenges on the left-hand side. The ball is worked out wide to Coufal who puts in a cross to Antonio, but his header is comfortably saved by the keeper.
83' Lallana is walking off the pitch gingerly. Potter can't quite believe his misfortune in this game. No substitution is made yet however.
82' Rice shows great feet to break into the box on the left flank. His cross evades Antonio and Bowen picks it up, but his shot takes a deflection and the keeper can collect easily.
80' Brighton are caught trying to play out from defence and Antonio lays it back to Rice. His thumping effort from outside the area is well saved by Sanchez.
79' Bowen whips in the free-kick towards the near post but Brighton put it behind for a corner.
79' Soucek this time draws a cheap foul from Bissouma in the corner. West Ham are using their nous to take the sting out of this one it seems.
78' Bowen wins the ball on halfway and is scythed down by Cucurella as he raced into space. It's a free-kick but no card.
A. Masuaku
Pablo Fornals
West Ham United
77' Masuaku is on for Fornals.
M. Lanzini
S. Benrahma
West Ham United
76' Lanzini, who scored a belter last time out, comes on for Benrahma.
75' The home side are defending extremely deep as Brighton try to unpick their banks of four. Antonio runs away on the counter, but Cucurella gets back to win the ball off him before he can launch a serious attack.
74' Maupay plays a lovely one-two in the area but elects to cross instead of shoot, and West Ham get it clear. Moyes' side are under a fair bit of pressure now.
73' Bissouma drives into the box on the left and goes down under a challenge from Dawson! The referee is not interested though.
72' West Ham have dropped off their intensity in the second half, and Brighton will surely feel a goal is coming their way.

J. Veltman
Brighton & Hove Albion

61' March does well to keep the ball in on the right and slips it infield to Moder. His cross is deflected behind for a corner.
60' Cucurella is a little over-eager pressing his opposite man and gives away a silly free-kick.
58' Brighton are patiently knocking the ball around in West Ham's half. Lallana attempts a one-two with Veltman on the right, but Dawson thumps it clear for West Ham.
56' Bissouma finds Moder in space on the right, but his low cross is blocked. The visitors will have to create a little more than that to break down West Ham's packed defence.
55' West Ham seem to be on the front foot after that disallowed goal. Fornals attempts to drive into the box, but he loses out to a Brighton defender.
53' A real let-off for Brighton there in any case. Sanchez simply has to deal with corners better than that.
51' The check goes on for a few minutes, but it's ruled out! Antonio just put a toe on the ball from an offside position amidst the melee in the box. No goal. It stays at 1-0.
49' VAR is having a look for a possible foul on Sanchez, but it seems he was impeded by his own player.
49' Goal for West Ham! The ball is scrambled into the back of his own net by Duffy, after Sanchez failed to collect it. Disaster for Potter's men as they're undone again by a set-piece.
48' The corner comes in from the right and Dunk has another free header! He puts it straight at Fabianski though.
47' Bissouma spreads it out nicely to March on the right-hand side. Brighton pass it around nicely and March finds himself in space on the right again. He whips it in and his cross is deflected onto the roof of the net.
46' We're back underway for the second half!
If it stays the same in the second half West Ham will fancy their chances more and more, as opportunities to counter-attack will be rife. For Brighton, it's crucial they keep fashioning chances for themselves, and take one sooner rather than later.
A game that has showcased two very distinct styles of play. Brighton have had the lion's share of possession and West Ham have been more than happy to allow them to. It's a set-piece that separates the two sides, which Sanchez will surely feel he could have done better on. The visitors have had chances of their own, and it's a familiar tale of a lack of good finishing costing them at the moment.
45' + 4' Benrahma wins the ball back after a Brighton mistake and races away on the right with a lovely bit of trickery. West Ham keep possession and the referee decides to blow his whistle as time is up.
45' + 3' March delivers but his cross isn't the best, and West Ham easily clear it away.
45' + 2' Coufal catches Maupay late and Brighton have a free-kick from wide out on the left-hand side.
45' + 1' West Ham start a counter-attack from deep. Antonio finds Johnson in space and he then slips it into Benrahma. Johnson wasn't expecting the ball back however and possession is lost.
44' A free-kick from deep catches Brighton out and Rice is in space on the right. His cross into the area can't find a man however, and the ball is cleared away.
43' Fornals whips in a corner from the left, and it's headed out by Duffy. The ball falls to Benrahma outside the box, but his speculative effort is well wide.
41' Brighton are enjoying their best spell of the game. They'll feel very hard done by to be behind at this stage.
40' It's a corner on the right and Dunk has a free header! His effort is tame however and it flies several yards wide of the far post.
39' What a save! March slips in Maupay who takes his time to thread Lallana through with a great chance! His shot is well saved by Fabianski from close range.
38' The corner is floated in towards the back post but it's easily cleared. Brighton are pulled up for a foul, and Fabianksi takes all the time in the world to clear his lines.
37' Cucurella does well to win it off Bowen and Bissouma races away to start an attack. Trossard curls in a delivery but it's cleared. Potter's side restart their attack and Cucurella's cross is deflected behind for a corner.
S. Duffy
A. Webster
Brighton & Hove Albion
36' Brighton are in a spot of trouble here. One goal down and now two injuries for them to contend with. Duffy comes on for the injured Webster.
33' Webster is down again, and it looks like he will have to come off this time.
32' Rice plays a lovely one-two and then bursts into the area. Bowen can't quite get on the end of the cross as it's flashed across the box.
30' Bissouma is cynically hacked down by Fornals as he was looking to restart another attack for his side. Fornals is perhaps fortunate not to be booked there.
29' Coufal whips in a cross from the right and Dawson, in acres of space at the far post, decides to lay it back to Antonio. Antonio's shot is blocked, and Potter's men survive for now.
28' Off the bar! Coufal crosses from deep on the right and it comes out to Fornals, who cracks a volley against the underside of the crossbar! Let off for the visitors.
27' West Ham have completed 25 passes to Brighton's 148. It's what you do with it that counts I guess.
27' Lallana slips it through to Maupay, who fizzes it across the area to Trossard. Coufal does well to read the situation and cut the danger out.
26' The ball is switched to Trossard on the left, but he misses his control and it goes out harmlessly for a goal-kick.
25' The corner is delivered close to Sanchez again and this time he elects to claim it.
24' Bowen drives forward down the right, dummies to come inside nicely and eventually wins a corner for his troubles.
23' Brighton work the ball out left and Cucurella whips in an inviting cross. There's no blue shirt on the end of it though, and West Ham escape.
22' Coufal clatters Bissouma late on the halfway line. It's a free-kick but no booking.
21' Webster is trying to run it off, and will continue for now.
20' Webster is now down for the visitors. They may be forced to make another enforced change!
19' Brighton have their opponents penned in their own half with a long spell of possession. It doesn't come to anything however, and Trossard puts the ball out of play on the full.
17' Moder puts the corner in but it's a poor delivery and it's easily cleared at the near post.
16' Trossard takes his time lining up the free-kick but it clips the wall and goes behind for a corner.
15' Lallana nips in to get the ball ahead of Zouma who ends up fouling his opponent. Free-kick to Brighton around 25 yards out.
14' West Ham are happy to sit back and let Brighton have the ball in their own half. The visitors try and start an attack from deep, but they lose it on the right and West Ham have the throw.
S. March
J. Sarmiento
Brighton & Hove Albion
13' It's a real disappointment for Sarmiento on his full debut, as he limps off the pitch. March comes on in his place.
10' West Ham counter-attack and Bowen rasps a shot at Sanchez after driving with the ball. The shot is straight at Sanchez, but he doesn't look comfortable at all as he parries it away.
10' Bowen gives the ball away in his own half and Brighton work the ball out right. Moder puts the cross in but there's no one on the end of it.
8' Brighton seem intent on pressing high in these early stages, and are getting into West Ham.
7' Brighton win the ball high up in the West Ham half, but they end up passing it all the way back to Sanchez in goal. His attempt to launch an attack fails as Veltman can't quite keep the ball in play on the right flank.
Pablo Fornals
West Ham United
5' It was a fantastic delivery from Fornals.
T. Souček
West Ham United
5' A corner comes in from the left-hand side and Soucek rises highest to nod it home! The corner was right on top of the goalkeeper but he was rooted to the spot as the ball sailed past him.
4' Benrahma brings it down beautifully from a throw-in on the left and wins a corner.
3' Maupay of course was guilty of missing an open goal against Leeds last time out. That wasn't the best way for him to regain his confidence by any means.
2' Brighton start the game on the front foot, enjoying possession in the West Ham half. Bissouma drives into the box and tees up Maupay from short range. Maupay's touch lets him down and he can only drag the shot wide of the far post.
1' The referee blows his whistle and Brighton kick us off.
The players are coming out, and we're about to get underway!
Brighton have never lost in eight Premier League meetings with West Ham (W3 D5), the most a side has faced the Hammers without defeat in the competition.
Graham Potter also makes two changes to the side that started that 0-0 draw with Leeds. Gross and Lamptey miss out, with Lallana and Sarmiento coming into the side. It’s a first Premier League start for Sarmiento, who was signed in the summer from Benfica.
David Moyes makes two changes from the West Ham side that lost 2-1 to Manchester City on Sunday, as Coufal and Bowen come in for Cresswell and Masuaku.
SUBS: Alexis Mac Allister, Enock Mwepu, Jurgen Locadia, Solly March, Dan Burn, Shane Duffy, Jason Steele, Tariq Lamptey, Pascal Gross.
BRIGHTON: (4-2-3-1): Robert Sanchez; Joel Veltman, Lewis Dunk, Marc Cucurella, Adam Webster; Jakub Moder, Yves Bissouma; Jeremy Sarmiento, Adam Lallana, Leandro Trossard; Neal Maupay.

WEST HAM (4-2-3-1): Lukasz Fabianski; Kurt Zouma, Vladimir Coufal, Ben Johnson, Craig Dawson; Declan Rice, Tomas Soucek; Pablo Fornals, Said Benrahma, Jarrod Bowen; Michail Antonio.
This is a meeting between two of the division’s overachievers so far this season. West Ham start the game in fourth place, and Brighton are just five points behind in ninth position. Despite Brighton’s good start however, they were booed off the pitch after their last game – a 0-0 draw at home to Leeds. They are winless in their last eight, with six draws. West Ham come off the back of two straight defeats, albeit away at Manchester City last time out. They will be hoping to regain some of their attacking spark which seems to have slightly fizzled out of late.
