Sunshine Stars were forced to a 0-0 draw at home by Kano Pillars in a Nigeria Professional Football League encounter at the Ondo Sports Complex on Sunday.
The Owena Whales dominated possessions, especially in the first half but an impressive defensive show from the Sai Masu Gida boys saw the encounter end in a stalemate.
Franklin Sasere almost put the hosts in front in the ninth minute after his efforts off El Shittu Lawal's pass struck the side of the Pillars' net.
In the 15th minute, the visitors came close through leading scorer Junior Lokosa but his header off a well-struck corner went wide.
Five minutes later, Abiodun Joseph missed another good chance as Dayo Ojo's header fell to his path inside Pillars' area but he could not make it count.
Ojo continued to pile pressure on the visitors' defence but the CHAN Eagles star's numerous efforts failed to go in.
And in the second half, Sunshine saw their appeal for a penalty overlooked by the referee following a handball in the visitors' yard five minutes after the restart.
Ojo remained in charge of Sunshine's pouring attack just as he stood out in the first half but the Pillars shot-stopper David Obiozor denied him in the 69th and 72nd minute respectively.
At the death, substitute Sikiru Alimi almost broke the deadlock but his brilliant attempt missed the target as Ibrahim Musa's men fought on to snatch a point.
With the draw, Sunshine Stars have now acquired 12 points - three behind opponents Kano Pillars after eight games and four adrift leaders Akwa United, who have a game in hand.
