That's all for our live coverage from St. Mary's! Thanks for joining us today. Good bye.
FULL TIME: SOUTHAMPTON 0-2 TOTTENHAM. Harry Kane and Dele Alli secure three points for Spurs at St. Mary's as the struggles continue for Ronald Koeman's side. Saints have now gone six in a row without a win, losing five, while scoring remains an issue for them. As for Tottenham, they were far from convincing but made the most of a lapse in concentration in defence from the hosts and were able to convert that into three points.
SENSATIONAL SAVE! One final scare for Spurs, but Lloris bails them out with an incredible stop to deny Ward-Prowse! The ensuing corner is dealt with and that should do it here at St. Mary's.
Son Heung-Min
H. Kane
Kane's night is over, but he is able to jog off without any discomfort - an encouraging sign for his availability on Boxing Day. Heung-Min Son replaces him.
There will be three minutes added on at the end of this match, as is indicated by the fourth official.
Worrying moments for Spurs as Kane goes down, clutching his knee. He's in clear discomfort as he gets attended to on the touchline, after lunging in awkwardly at the feet on Wanyama. Hopefully for his sake, and that of Tottenham, it won't keep him out of their next match - or any that follow.
N. Chadli
C. Eriksen
Second change for Tottenham and it is a bit of a puzzling one as Eriksen is replaced by Nacer Chadli, despite Walker struggling at the moment. Nonetheless, Spurs are almost through now to the finish line.
Southampton have to throw absolutely everything forward now. A goal would set us up for a grandstand finish at St. Mary's, but Tottenham are doing everything in their power to ensure that doesn't happen. They were dealt a late blow last weekend and are hardly insistent on suffering a similar fate today.
STAT: Spurs are unbeaten in their last six Premier League away games, winning two and drawing four. It is their longest unbeaten run away from home in the top flight since December to February of 2013-14 (seven).
EXCEPTIONAL FROM ERIKSEN! He is a magician from set pieces and flashes his creativity yet again, delivering a remarkable ball behind the defence to pick out Kane, but somehow the striker fails to convert, sending it straight into the arms of Gazzaniga!
T. Carroll
D. Alli
For the visitors it is Tom Carroll who gets a late cameo appearance, coming on for Alli.
J. Ward-Prowse
J. Clasie
Changes for both teams now as we approach the final 10 minutes. Clasie is the last casualty for Southampton, replaced by James Ward-Prowse.
Blocked by Alderweireld! Southampton throwing the ball into the area every chance they get, and Pelle is doing a decent job of winning them, still putting in the required work up top. He knocks another ball down and switches onto his right, but can't get his shot through on goal as Alderweireld puts a block in.
Not that this looks much like happening today, but Tottenham did concede twice beyond this point last week when they were looking in complete control against Newcastle. Of course there is a big difference between a two-goal and one-goal lead, while Southampton aren't looking capable of turning this around, either.
D. Alli
Yellow Card
Alli goes into the referee's book for a disgrace of a two-footed tackle on Juanmi. That had every bit of a chance of getting him sent off, and he perhaps would have on a different day with a different referee.
DECENT BALL IN! Wanyama picks out a promising pass forward for Mane, who does well to get his cross in and pick out Long. The striker flicks on towards the far post but no one anticipates it, allowing Walker to knock the ball behind for a corner.
The tempo has fizzled out drastically yet again, and it's just not at all happening for Southampton at the moment. They're struggling to navigate passage through on goal with it remaining so congested in and around the Tottenham penalty area. The last time they scored two goals in a Premier League match was on the first day of November.
STAT: Of players to have scored four or more goals for Spurs in the history of Premier League, Harry Kane (32 goals) has the best minutes per goal ratio (140 mins per goal).
S. Long
S. Davis
The other substitution sees Shane Long introduced at the expense of Davis. Three forwards on now for Southampton who have little choice but to go for it now.
D. Tadić
Long overdue changes from Koeman, the first of which sees Juanmi replace a visibly disappointed Tadic.
Well this is the worry for the hosts, as Tottenham start to break on the counter with plenty of support and space to exploit. Eriksen remains the architect and he tries to chip a clever little ball over the top for Alli, but Fonte is wise to it and is able to head behind for a corner.
Tottenham are being afforded space on the counter as Southampton are forced to commit men forward in attack. The fans are beginning to grow a bit restless as their inability to trouble Lloris remains a concern. They need a goal in a big way, not just for the scope of this match, but for their confidence going forward.
Southampton throwing bodies forward and are really starting to knock on the door. Tottenham are being pinned back in defence, only surviving at the moment as a result of some important last-ditch interventions. The hosts have managed this sort of pressure before, but they need to start making something out of it.
STAT: Tottenham have lost a league-high 11 points from winning positions this season in the Premier League.
DECENT HIT! Penetrating move forward from Saints as Clasie rolls Mane into space. The attacker drives forward and lays it off for Pelle, who tries to pluck the ball out from his feet and curl an effort towards the far corner, but Lloris is wise to it. Still, an encouraging bit of play there from Southampton.
Out of nowhere really, it has suddenly started pouring rain at St. Mary's! It's coming down hard and fast, with no telling how long it could last. Perhaps it is only passing through, but there is certainly a bit of ferocity behind this downpour at the moment.
Mane displays some excellent skill on the right to skip past two defenders and win a free kick on the very edge of the area. Tadic drives it in low, into the mess of bodies, but the deflection works in Spurs' favour as the visitors are able to clear their lines. Wasted opportunity for Southampton.
Cagey start to the second half, which is perfectly fine as far as Tottenham are concerned. Southampton will have to throw caution to the wind as this match progresses if they are to salvage a point.
Back  underway at St. Mary's!
Southampton made to pay for missed opportunities in the first half, as they fail to get a goal to reflect their performance, and are then pegged back right at the end by goals from Harry Kane and Dele Alli. Two errors in defence lead to a pair of soft goals for Saints to concede as they dig themselves another hole at St. Mary's.
There will be one minute added on att the end of this first half.
K. Walker
Good ball from Walker to pick out Alli, capitalising on some poor defending from Bertrand.
D. Alli
A SECOND FOR SPURS! Well what a shocking end to the half this is proving to be! It has all come against the run of play but the visitors will hardly care! Bertrand puts in a poor tackle which allows Walker to get into acres of space on the right and he's able to send a ball clean through the area to pick out Alli at the far post, who has a time to take a touch and calmly roll the ball in at the far post.
D. Alli
Alli picks up an assist for a strong run through the middle in the buildup.
José Fonte
Yellow Card
Fonte goes into the book for a challenge on Alli in the buildup, but Kevin Friend allowed play to continue in what proved to be a great advantage given by the referee.
H. Kane
TOTTENHAM OPEN THE SCORING! It's an uncharacteristically poor piece of defending in the end from Van Dijk, who commits himself too early as he steps up and tries to knock the ball from Kane - but has a wild swipe at it, gifting the striker a clean path through on goal, and there's no way he was going to miss from there! It's a goal in his 100th Spurs appearance for Kane!
Important piece of defending from Walker, who just recognises the run of Pelle in behind him and shows great pace to stay with the striker and prevent him from getting on the end of Davis' ball, which threatened to send the Italian through on goal.
Gazzaniga called into action for the first time following a clever one-two between Eriksen and Kane. The striker gets a shot off from inside the right channel, which takes the slightest deflection off Van Dijk, forcing the keeper to react appropriately - but he is up to the task.
It's getting a bit scrappy here as we inch closer to the interval. Tottenham are struggling mightily to generate any sort of momentum or tempo in attack. They need to get Eriksen on the ball a bit more and let the Denmark midfielder stamp his creative influence on the match..
Has to be better! Southampton win a free kick in a promising position through Tadic, as he shields the ball smartly from Walker. The hosts send plenty of bodies forward as it's set to be taken, but the ball in from Davis has too much height to it. Soares is just able to get a head to it at the far post, but his delivery back across goal is sent straight into the arms of Lloris.
STAT: Tottenham Hotspur are unbeaten in their last six Premier League games against Southampton, winning five of those. The Saints have not recorded a win over Spurs since their return to the top flight.
Calmly away from Lloris, who denies Mane the potential of a clean break after a clever touch from Tadic. Great reading of the play from the keeper who has had to be very alert thus far. Tottenham aren't doing themselves any favours with some sloppy passing out from the back.
Southampton remain the more confident of the two sides in attack, but are just lacking that final ball at the moment as the still have nothing to show for their strong performance in this first half. They are getting into some dangerous areas in the final third, however, and it's only a matter of time before the chances start to follow should they keep up this direct approach.
On the other side, Kane is having to drop very deep to try and get on the ball and has been nowhere near as successful in his attempt to hold play up, with Clasie and Wanyama putting in some fine tackles to break Spurs' rhythm.
Pelle has proved an excellent target through the first quarter of the match, winning nearly everything sent his way in the air. He's used his big frame to shield off the likes of Alderweireld and Vertonghen, while spraying some enticing balls out wide for Tadic and Mane. The Italian's return is a welcome one for Southampton.
STAT: Southampton have fired in the most open play crosses (309) and have had the most headed shots (51) in the Premier League this season.
Saints counter through Mane, who gets on the end of the long ball forward from Tadic. Saints continue to work the ball around very well in the final third, but some excellent tracking back from Alli sees the midfielder block a cross and send it behind back off the wide man, which results in a goal kick for his side.
The game is starting to tilt a bit in Tottenham's favour after the lively start from Southampton, but the visitors have not looked as threatening when on the front foot. Koeman's side appear more willing to send bodies forward in attack, perhaps largely due to the fact that they have struggled to find goals of late.
Van Dijk heads Eriksen's cross behind for a corner, which affords Spurs their first chance of the afternoon from a set piece. Dier scored from a corner last weekend in their defeat against Newcastle, and Pochettino's side have been very strong from dead ball situations this season largely due to the contributions of their Danish midfielder.
Tottenham are attempting to play long balls over the top for the likes of Kane and Lamela to chase, but they have posed little threat to the Southampton back four up to this point. Van Dijk and Fonte have been wise to everything in the air and have appeared quite comfortable in tracking Spurs' runs off the ball.
STAT: Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino was in charge for 54 Premier League games at Southampton; winning 35% of his games (Ronald Koeman has won 43%).
SHOULD BE 1-0! Tadic gets spotted again in space on the left and he then produces a delightful ball to pick out Mane atop the ara. The Senegal international strikes it first time, but Lloris is able to go against the momentum of his body and get down to keep it out at the near post! Southampton nearly rewarded for their impressive start.
Crucial from Alderweireld! Mane makes a late run into the area and gets on the end of a pass. He has a look at goal and gets off a clean strike from a bit of a tight angle, but Alderweireld is able to stay with him and deflect the effort over the bar. Lloris comes out to claim the ensuing corner.
There is a decent tempo about this match early on, though Tottenham have yet to really find their footing in attack. Virgil van Dijk has stayed close to Kane in these opening minutes and it appears at though that will be a battle to keep an eye on throughout the afternoon.
Penetrating stuff from Southampton on the counter as they issue an early warning to Tottenham. Pelle displays some wonderful holdup play and spots Tadic in acres of space on the left. The winger sends an inviting cross in, but no one can get on the end of it. Walker will have to be wary of showing Tadic that much open space on the left.
Tottenham get us underway in their baby blue away kits, kicking left to right, with Southampton in their classic red and white stripes.
Just two changes made to the Tottenham team which fell to Newcastle last weekend. Mousa Dembele (illness) was a late inclusion at the expense of Tom Carroll, while Ben Davies replaces Danny Rose. Clinton Njie (knee) and Ryan Mason (foot) remain unavailable. Harry Kane continues to lead the lines, flanked by the formidable trio of Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Erik Lamela.
Graziano Pelle returns to the team after a prolonged injury layoff, which forces Shane Long to the bench. Maarten Stekelenburg remains sidelined with a toe injury, meaning Paulo Gazzaniga continues to deputise in his absence. Jordy Clasie also comes back into the starting lineup, as has Dusan Tadic, at the expense of Maya Yoshida and Oriol Romeu, which also prompts a change back to Saints' more standard 4-2-3-1 from the 3-4-3 they lined up in a week ago.
SUBS: Bentaleb, Son, Vorm, Chadli, Wimmer, Carroll, Winks.
TOTTENHAM (4-2-3-1): Lloris; Walker, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies; Dier, Dembele; Lamela, Alli, Eriksen; Kane.
SUBS: K. Davis, Yoshida, Long, Romeu, Ward-Prowse, Juanmi, Targett.
SOUTHAMPTON (4-2-3-1): Gazzaniga; Soares, Fonte, Van Dijk, Bertrand; Wanyama, Clasie; Mane, S. Davis, Tadic; Pelle.
Southampton, meanwhile, need three points in a bad way. They are now winless in five across all competitions, but are slowly returning to full fitness. Ronald Koeman’s side have been seriously lacking in the scoring department without their Italian talisman, but it is an issue that have plagued them over the Dutchman’s tenure. A win today over top four challengers Tottenham would provide them with the confidence boost they need ahead of a busy winter period.
Hello and welcome to live coverage of Tottenham’s trip to take on Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium, as the pair try and rebound from last weekend’s defeats. An injury time winner at White Hart Lane from Ayoze Perez dealt Spurs their first defeat in the league since opening weekend on Sunday and they will be desperate to avoid making it two on the trot today as they aim to keep pace with the top four.
