Commentary

Thanks you for joining our coverage, we hope you enjoyed the game. Until next time, goodbye!
Southampton travel to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal next, while Everton play another relegation-threatened side when they host Norwich City.
There goes the full-time whistle! Everton pick up a first away win of the season and pile more misery on Southampton, who lose four successive league games at St. Mary's for the first time in their history. Davies headed in after less than five minutes to open the scoring, but Ings equalised shortly after the break from close range after good work from substitute Boufal. However, Richarlison converted Sidibe's cross to win the game and leave Southampton mired in the relegation zone. It finishes 2-1 to Everton!
90' + 5' FULL-TIME: SOUTHAMPTON 1-2 EVERTON
90' + 3' Boufal wins a free-kick and Ward-Prowse's delivery is met in the box by Romeu, who nods it back into the middle, but it's cleared away and Everton cling on!
M. Obafemi
S. Armstrong
Southampton
90' + 1' Conversely, Hasenhuttl replaces Armstrong - playing at wing-back today - with a striker in Obafemi as he looks for a last-gasp equaliser.
M. Keane
Richarlison
Everton
89' Richarlison trudges off for a centre-back in Keane as Silva switches to a back five to see out the game.
S. Boufal
Yellow Card
Southampton
88' Iwobi does his defensive duties well on the right, covering for Sidibe and nicking the ball off Boufal, forcing the winger to haul him back to prevent a counter-attack and earn himself a yellow card.
85' Southampton players are incensed as the referee is forced to stop play as Richarlison stays down holding his head. The injury is to his leg and the home crowd are not pleased with the Brazilian.
83' BLOCK! Iwobi slides a clever reverse ball in behind for the run of Calvert-Lewin, but Vestergaard is back well to slide in and block the shot behind!
C. Adams
N. Redmond
Southampton
81' Redmond is now replaced by Adams as Hasenhuttl gives Ings a strike partner in a bid to get back on level terms.
80' POST! A clever free-kick routine sees Digne find Iwobi all on his own at the back post, and the substitute volleys the ball back across the box, but it takes a deflection off Armstrong, clips the post and goes behind!
78' IWOBI! Digne's left-wing cross is deflected to Iwobi in the box, who has his back to goal. He shoots on the swivel and the effort takes a deflection that wrong-foots McCarthy, but it's just wide of the post!
76' Southampton have now conceded 21 goals in their first six home Premier League games this season – the only top-flight side to concede more in their opening six was Blackpool in 1930-31 (22).
D. Sidibé
Assist
Everton
75' Sidibe deserves plenty of credit for that pinpoint cross from the right that gave Richarlison a simple finish at the back post.
Richarlison
Goal
Everton
75' GOAL!! RICHARLISON MIGHT HAVE WON IT FOR EVERTON! Sidibe puts in an excellent cross from the right and the Brazilian sprints to get in at the back post before guiding a low effort under McCarthy and in! It's 2-1 to Everton!
A. Iwobi
T. Walcott
Everton
74' Former Arsenal team-mates Walcott and Iwobi also swap places as Silva freshens up his attacking options.
D. Calvert-Lewin
C. Tosun
Everton
74' Tosun is replaced by Calvert-Lewin up front as Silva looks to grab a late winner.
73' HOLGATE! A long throw is not dealt with at all by Armstrong and it bounces straight through for Holgate, who nods over McCarthy but onto the roof of the net!
72' BLOCK! Richarlison finds himself in space on the edge of the box on the left again and cuts inside to shoot, but Bednarek makes an important block and the pair collide afterwards. Both look like they will be fine to continue.
71' Djenepo drives in from the left and tries to strike for goal, but makes a complete mess of the shot and it ends up looping up and going out of play near the right corner flag. Awful effort.
70' WIDE! Richarlison cuts in from the left and curls one towards the far corner, but it's well, well wide. Hard to say if that's a cross or a shot, but it wasn't very good either way.
68' Djenepo appears to be filling in at left-wing back since Cedric was replaced, with Boufal joining Redmond in support of Ings.
66' SAVE! Pickford pulls off a very good save as Ward-Prowse whips the free-kick towards the top-left corner, but he scrambles across to tip it over the bar!
D. Sidibé
Yellow Card
Everton
65' Sidibe is booked as he catches Djenepo right on the edge of the box. The Southampton players want a penalty but the free-kick is the correct decision.
63' NO PENALTY! Mina charges in and barges Djenepo off the ball as he tries to shepherd the ball out of play. The home crowd bellow for a penalty, but the referee shakes his head! Mina will feel he has gotten away with one there.
62' SAVE! Richarlison gets away in the box and meets the header cleanly, but he can generate any power or direction and it's a simple catch for McCarthy.
61' CHANCE! Richarlison is played into space and gets into the box, but declines to shoot on his left foot and is tackled as he tries to check onto his right, with Sigurdsson retrieving the ball and winning a corner.
59' WIDE! Tosun gets onto a ball in behind on the right and lashes a strike towards the far corner, but he doesn't catch it cleanly and drags it just wide of the bottom-left corner!
57' Djenepo jumps over the sliding challenge of Schneiderlin but cannot keep his footing and goes to ground. Silva is furious on the Everton bench as there was no contact, but a free-kick is still awarded.
55' SAVE! Appeals go up for a handball against Bednarek but it's off his chest as he tries to prevent an Everton corner. His clearance is woeful and straight to Sigurdsson on the edge of the box and he smacks a firm effort high at goal that McCarthy has to tip over the bar!
54' VAR check for a possible red card against Tosun after he catches Stephens on the cheek with a stray elbow, but it looked accidental and nothing is given.
52' Southampton have scored with just their second shot of the game - their last six league goals have been scored by Ings and Ward-Prowse (three each).
D. Ings
Goal
Southampton
50' GOAL!! SOUTHAMPTON ARE LEVEL!! Boufal retrieves the ball on the right after an attack looks to have broken down, taking on and beating Schneiderlin with ease, before firing a low cross of the inside of Mina's right leg and into Ings for a tap-in! It's 1-1!
48' That shot was Southampton's first of the game, having failed to record one in the first half of a home Premier League match for the first time since September 2017.
47' SAVE! A free-kick near the left byline is worked back to Boufal on the edge of the box and the substitute takes a touch before curling at goal, but Pickford manages to hold on to the firmly-struck effort.
46' We're back under way for the second half!
S. Boufal
Cédric Soares
Southampton
46' Hasenhuttl makes a bold substitution at half-time, replacing natural full-back Cedric with a winger in Boufal.
The Saints have been passive off the ball and nervous on it, sitting deeper and deeper as the half wore on. Hasenhuttl has a lot of work to do at half-time to get a tune out of his side, who appear to be struggling to play with any freedom amidst the hostility of their own fans.
There goes the half-time whistle! Everton lead at the break after an early goal from Davies following a corner, but Southampton have put in an abject performance and will need to improve drastically in the second period if they are to appease an agitated, dissatisfied home crowd. It's 1-0 to Everton at the break!
45' + 2' HALF-TIME: SOUTHAMPTON 0-1 EVERTON
45' CHANCE! Djenepo and Ings force a loose ball at the back and Ings knocks it into space in the centre for Cedric to chase, but Davies gets back in time to pull off an excellent block.
43' Southampton have been so, so passive in this first half. They started with a press that was triggered in their own half, but they are so often standing off their opponents and allowing them to play.
41' The home crowd are becoming increasingly agitated with their side, who have yet to take a shot of any kind in this half.
39' Cedric pings the ball from left to right, but nobody is high up on that side and it's a poor, poor pass.
37' The hosts are sitting very, very deep and are simply absorbing pressure at the moment. Ings is becoming increasingly isolated and Southampton are struggling to get out when they do have it, often resorting to punting it long.
35' Southampton finally get out of their own half and the ball is worked to Ings, who has it all to do on his own. He drives out to the left and looks to check back inside and take Holgate on, but the defender sticks out a foot and wins the ball cleanly.
33' BLOCK! Tosun, stretching for the ball, pokes it on for Sidibe to strike, and right-back hammers it into his opposite number, Cedric. It breaks kindly for Tosun, who tries to take it on the turn, but it's nicked away from him. Mina then thumps a low drive from an incredible distance, but that is also blocked away.
32' OVER! Walcott pulls off a lovely nutmeg on Ward-Prowse and gives it to Sigurdsson, who feeds Digne on the left. The full-back cuts onto his weaker right foot and lashes a strike at goal, but sends it over the bar!
31' Walcott now produces a similar effort to Davies', trying to send a cross in from the right but cutting across it rather than curling it, sending the ball narrowly over the top corner.
29' SAVE! Great save from McCarthy! Davies tries to put a cross into the box but doesn't get the curl he's looking for. However, the ball ends up arrowing towards the top-left corner and McCarthy has to backpedal and tip it over the bar!
27' Walcott is released down the right by Sigurdsson and the winger knocks the ball around Stephens and heads for the byline, beating Vestergaard to the ball and firing a cross in that McCarthy parries uncomfortably away, but no Everton player is there to take advantage!
25' Holgate shoots from near the halfway line but McCarthy is aware and backpedals to catch! It was on target from the defender.
24' Everton are playing with a great deal more freedom than their hosts. The anxiousness of the home crowd is spreading to the Southampton players - particularly the defenders.
22' CHANCE! Sigurdsson curls in a fantastic delivery from a free-kick on the right, but Walcott and Davies just can't quite get on the end of it and it bounces off the latter and behind!
20' Ings looks frustrated as he's caught offside after Cedric's ball over the top found him in space in the left channel.
18' OVER! Everton carve Southampton open as Schneiderlin curls the ball into Tosun, who flicks it on for Walcott and the winger loops a return ball for the striker, who had continued his run to the back post. However, Tosun wastes the move by heading well over the bar! That was a lovely passage of play.
16' BLOCK! Walcott plays a lovely ball in behind for Tosun to run onto, and the striker gets to it on the right side of the box, but Stephens slides in to block and diffuse the danger. Good challenge.
14' The hosts look a little nervy at the back as Cedric's clearance is awkward, and the full-back berates his goalkeeper for not telling him he had time to control the ball.
12' Southampton put together a clever attack and Cedric is released down the left, but the naturally right-footed player elects to cross with the outside of his favoured foot rather than his weaker left and the delivery ends up out of play.
10' Everton surge forward and win a corner, but they can't capitalise on it the way they did their first and it's cleared away.
8' Southampton have set up unusually today, with Armstrong in an unfamiliar right wing-back role, forcing Cedric across to the opposite flank, while Djenepo and Redmond look to support the lone centre-forward in Ings.
6' That is the 20th goal Southampton have conceded at home in the Premier League this season, less than five minutes into their sixth league game at St. Mary's this term.
M. Holgate
Assist
Everton
4' Holgate looked like he was going for goal, but his header was drifting just wide of the far corner. However, Davies was alert and on the move early to make the most of it!
T. Davies
Goal
Everton
4' GOAL!! EVERTON TAKE THE LEAD! Holgate meets a corner at the front post and flicks it on for Davies, who comes charging in at the back post and powers a header beyond McCarthy! It's 1-0 to Everton!
3' There's early opportunities for both sides to create from set-pieces, but Everton's results in a handball and the Toffees successfully defend Ward-Prowse's delivery at the other end.
1' We're under way at St. Mary's!
Everton will be hoping to capitalise on Southampton's struggles at home in a bid to improve their woeful away form this term. The Toffees are winless in eight Premier League away games (D3 L5), losing each of the last four, and have lost five of their last six away games against the Saints in the league. However, 10 of their last 13 league wins on the road have been against sides placed 15th or lower at the start of the day.
Southampton have claimed 11 of their 12 Premier League wins against Everton at home, and have emerged victorious in five of their last six such fixtures. However, the Saints have lost their last three matches at St. Mary's and have picked up just one point from their first five at the ground so far this season.
Everton manager Marco Silva is forced into altering the side that drew 1-1 with Tottenham in their last game, with Andre Gomes now a long-term absentee after suffering a very serious ankle injury, while Fabian Delph is also sidelined and Iwobi drops to the bench. In their places are Schneiderlin, Sigurdsson and Tosun, with the latter making his first start since the final game of last season.
Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl makes two changes to the team that started the 2-1 defeat against Manchester City last time out, welcoming Cedric and Djenepo back from injury, while Valery drops to the bench and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg misses out altogether. Ryan Bertrand is still suspended after his sending-off against Leicester City.
Everton substitutes: Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Anthony Gordon, Seamus Coleman, Alex Iwobi, Jonas Lossl, Michael Keane, Leighton Baines.
Everton XI (4-2-3-1): Jordan Pickford; Djibril Sidibe, Yerry Mina, Mason Holgate, Lucas Digne; Morgan Schneiderlin, Tom Davies; Theo Walcott, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Richarlison; Cenk Tosun.
Southampton substitutes: Angus Gunn, Michael Obafemi, Che Adams, Kevin Danso, Yan Valery, Maya Yoshida, Sofiane Boufal.
Southampton XI (3-4-2-1): Alex McCarthy; Jan Bednarek, Jack Stephens, Jannik Vestergaard; Stuart Armstrong, James Ward-Prowse, Oriol Romeu, Cedric Soares; Moussa Djenepo, Nathan Redmond; Danny Ings.
This clash sees two struggling sides face off in a bid to climb away from the bottom end of the table. Everton are just three points clear of the drop zone in 17th and Southampton, two places below, could go level with the Toffees if they claim victory today, but the Saints would remain behind on goal difference.
