Commentary

That's all from us, we hope you enjoyed the game and we'll see you for the next one, goodbye!
That victory means, of course, that Real are league champions, with their unassailable 17-point lead over Sevilla too much to be caught with just four games left. Espanyol remain 13th, but even their players know that their performance didn't really mean much today, as the day belonged to Real Madrid.
He may only start on rare occasions, but Dani Ceballos showed his value to Carlo Ancelotti in this game, leading the way for both touches and passes to keep the team ticking over in midfield, and also winning the ball nine times in defence, including via three tackles. Depth.
The full-time whistle goes, bringing an end to the game and securing the La Liga title for Real Madrid! A resounding victory for Real, who were superb throughout, cruised to victory in the end as Espanyol ran out of steam. Benzema and Asensio added to Rodrygo's first half goals, and Madrid's second half was one in which the party atmosphere in the stands was reflected on the pitch. Deserved winners by some margin, both in this game, and in this league season.
90' + 3' FULL-TIME: REAL MADRID 4-0 ESPANYOL.
90' + 1' We're into three minutes of added time at the end of this game.
90' Vinicius cuts inside and looks to pull the trigger but Vidal sticks a foot in to send it behind for a corner.
88' Darder shunts Ceballos to the floor and concedes a free-kick on the near touchline, and this game is slowly fading out.
87' Benzema has now been involved in 11 goals (eight goals, three assists) in his last 11 La Liga games against Espanyol, including a goal and assist the last time he played against Los Pericos at the Bernabeu in December 2019.
85' Merida drives forward for Espanyol, firing a shot from distance that Courtois has covered, but doesn't need to save as it goes wide.
David López
Fernando Calero
83' Calero comes off for Espanyol, and is replaced in defence by David Lopez.
Vinícius Júnior
Assist
81' Vinicius' run split the Espanyol defence wide open, and he knew exactly where Benzema would be before picking him out, and Benzema, of course, did the rest.
K. Benzema
Goal
81' GOOOOAAAALLLL!!! It's four!!! Vinicius is put into space down the left and he dribbles across the byline. He waits for Benzema to arrive and finds him, with the Frenchman slotting a routine goal underneath Lopez and into the back of the net!! 4-0, and it's party time at the Bernabeu!
80' SAVED!!! Puado cuts inside and shoots from the edge of the box, forcing a good save from Courtois to push it around the post!
78' Didac crosses to the far post, but good work from Vallejo prevents Wu Lei from latching onto it and the ball goes behind.
77' Vinicius steams down the right before cutting the ball back to Isco, but he can't control it and the numerous Espanyol defenders clear it away.
Fran Mérida
Y. Herrera
76' Herrera's the next Espanyol midfielder to come off, and he is replaced by Fran Merida.
Mario Gila
E. Camavinga
75' Madrid make another pair of changes, bringing off Camavinga for another youngster in Gila Fuentes.
Vinícius Júnior
Rodrygo
75' Two-goal scorer Rodrygo comes off to one hell of an ovation, and he's replaced by his Brazil compatriot Vinicius Junior.
73' We're off to VAR, and it looks as if Rodrygo is clearly in the line of sight of Lopez and obstructs his view when Isco shoots, meaning that fourth Real goal whill be chalked off!
71' BALL IN THE NET!!!! They've got another one!!! Isco plays Benzema through on goal, and the Frenchman waits for support to arrive. He takes on the defence, before passing back to Isco, and he slots it into the top corner to score another!!!
71' WIDE!!! Benzema cuts inside and finds Isco, who plays Vazquez through on goal. He hits it across goal, but it just rolls beyond the outside of the far post, rather than inside it!
70' Marcelo streaks down the right and crosses for Benzema at the far post, but he can't quite get to it and has to keep it in play out wide.
69' Vidal races down the right and Darder finds him in behind the Real defence. He cuts it back to Wu Lei, but his effort is blocked and immediately cleared by Vallejo!
67' Camavinga, playing at centre-back, is caught out by Darder, who intercepts his pass to Kroos and flashes the ball across the face of goal. Vazquez is at the far post to knock it away, before it's finally hoofed away by Calero!
66' CHANCE!! Darder comes forward and finds Wu Lei, who flicks it on to Puado. He looks to tap it beyond Courtois, but the Madrid keeper meets him up close and knocks the ball away!
Dídac Vilá
T. Vilhena
65' Vilhena's the third Espanyol player to come off, and is replaced by Dídac Vila.
Manu Morlanes
Óscar Melendo
65' Melendo also comes off for the Catalan side, replaced by Manuel Morlanes in midfield.
Wu Lei
Raúl de Tomás
64' It's not been De Tomas's ay in front of goal, and the former Real Madrid academy player is replaced by Wu Lei.
62' SAVED!!! Espanyol build pressure and De Tomas plays it out to Vidal in space. He smashes a low shot at the near post, forcing Courtois to parry it behind!
61' Vilhena cuts inside and approaches the box, before fizzing a weak effort well over Courtois' crossbar.
Isco
Casemiro
61' Casemiro also comes off having picked up a yellow card, and Isco will replace him for the rest of the game.
K. Benzema
M. Díaz
60' Mariano also comes off, replaced by the usual centre-forward, and a good one too, in Karim Benzema.
T. Kroos
L. Modrić
60' The first of a triple substitution for Madrid sees Modric come off for his long-time midfield associate Toni Kroos.
59' That Camaving assist is one of two key passes the teenager has made, also completing three tackles and an interception to win the ball back seven times. He's been awesome so far.
57' Vidal is asking the referee to have a look at the challenge on him before allowing the goal to stand, but he's clutching at straws as his injury was simply a coming-together.
E. Camavinga
Assist
55' The speed of the break from Camavinga had the Espanyol defence at sixes and sevens, and the 19-year-old knew exactly when to pass for Asensio to stroke home Real's third.
Asensio
Goal
55' GOOOOAAAALLLLL!!!! Real strike again!!! With Vidal down in back-play, Camavinga sets off on the counter and waits for the run of Asensio. He picks him out with a perfect pass and the forward slots it beyond Lopez, and into the far corner to make it 3-0!!! The Madridstas are on fire here, and the title is all but theirs!
55' CHANCE!!! De Tomas's shot in space is blocked, spinning the ball away for Vidal. He crosses back in but Real clear, and repel another attack to counter themselves!
53' Modric looks to pick out Rodrygo on the run but only finds Vidal, who heads behind for a Madrid corner under little pressure.
51' Camavinga dispossesses Puado and feeds Asensio, but the Madrid winger skews his left-footed effort well wide of the target.
50' Ceballos plays in Rodrygo, who takes on Vidal and beats him, but the Espanyol right-back recovers to pass it out of the back, but Ceballos intercepts his poor pass!
49' OVER!!! Vilhena strikes a fizzing free-kick, curling it low into the area, and the ball takes a wicked deflection off Mariano and looks to be going in, before it lands on top of the net! That was a close one.
47' WIDE!!! De Tomas steps up from distance to strike the free-kick, and his dipping effort bounces right in front of the diving Courtois before flashing wide of his post!
Casemiro
Yellow Card
46' Casemiro wipes out De Tomas as he looks to come forward, and it's really not a good challenge from the Brazilian. He's rightfully booked for that sliding challenge.
46' We're back underway for the second half, via the boot of Mariano.
Back come the two teams for the second half, and Madrid are just 45 minutes away from a 35th La Liga title!
Rodrygo has been the star man for Los Blancos so far, scoring both goals from just two shots. He's also registered two key passes, a cross in open play, and won the ball twice in dangerous areas. Talent.
A first-class half of football from a first-class team, who are just 45 minutes away from securing first place in the table! Espanyol have had their moments, but Real's quality shone through, with those two well-taken Rodrygo goals putting them at arm's length of the visitors already. They could have more, and probably will add to their tally in the second half, with Madrid cruising to the title at the moment.
45' + 4' HALF-TIME: REAL MADRID 2-0 ESPANYOL.
45' + 4' A Vilhena cross deflects off Vazquez and goes behind for a corner, and we are checking for handball here! It strikes his knee before bouncing up and away, and so not penalty will be given!
45' + 3' WIDE!!! Real build again, as Modric's deft inside pass finds Rodrygo. He links with Marcelo, who fizzes a right-footed shot wide of Lopez's goal!
45' + 2' Modric wins the ball in midfield and frees up Rodrygo on the turn. He could shoot, but tries to lay off Mariano, but the final ball goes behind him and Espanyol clear.
45' + 1' We're into three minutes of added time at the end of the half.
45' Puado's attempted pass inside deflects off Vallejo, and Courtois can't prevent the conceding of a corner.
Rodrygo
Goal
43' GOOOAAAALLLL!!! Real double the lead!!! Vidal's pass to Herrera puts him under all sorts of pressure. He loses out to Mariano, and the ball comes to Rodrygo, who sends Lopez the wrong way to slot it into the bottom-left corner! 2-0 to Real, and already this looks like game over!
43' The ball falls to Herrera in space and he shoots from some 30 yards, but the Manchester City loanee drags it well wide of Courtois' goal.
M. Díaz
Yellow Card
42' Mariano catches Cabrera in the face with his forearm as the two contest a high ball, and the Madrid striker is give the game's first yellow card.
40' Melendo's attempted cross strikes Rodrygo flush in the face, and the referee stops play to deal with the potential head injury.
39' Modric swings in a corner that is flicked on by Vallejo, but the ball finds the side netting rather than the target.
38' Gomez is down holding his head, and is receiving treatment. Espanyol have players warming up, so we shall see if the defender stays on.
36' CHANCE!!! Asensio puts Mariano into space and the Dominican forward cuts inside, but Cabrera races across to boot it away before he can pull the trigger!
35' Real Madrid have won eight of their last nine La Liga matches, having won just three of their previous seven in the competition - they have suffered just one defeat in their last 26 home league games.
Marcelo
Assist
33' Marcelo did very well to wait for Rodrygo to continue his run. The veteran trusted the youngster to make the right decision, and both he and Rodrygo did so to put Real 1-0 up.
Rodrygo
Goal
33' GOOOAAALLLLL!!! Real take the lead!!! Modric plays it out to Rodrygo, who finds Marcelo centrally. The winger continues his run into the area and gets the ball back, before slotting it into the far corner to put Real into a 1-0 lead!
32' Herrera dispossesses Camavinga and finds Puado. He looks to flick it on to Vidal, but Casemiro cuts it out brilliantly.
31' Asensio and Modric look to play a one-two on the edge of Espanyol's box, but Asensio is blocked from getting to the return ball by Cabrera. However, the referee signals a goal-kick, not a foul!
29' Modric's backheel attempts to find the under-lapping run of Vazquez but it's cut out. Casemiro comes up with it and crosses to Rodrygo at the far post. He tees up Marcelo, who shoots with his right foot and Lopez holds it!
28' Real Madrid have won all three of their home games in all competitions against Espanyol under Carlo Ancelotti, keeping three clean sheets while scoring at least three goals in two of those three previous meetings.
26' With his marker Ceballos down, Darder has space to shoot and does so, but it's blocked on the edge of the box by Casemiro.
24' Real Madrid have not lost any of their last 24 La Liga home games against Espanyol - their best current run of unbeaten home games against a single opponent, and keeping a clean sheet in their last six.
22' WIDE!!! Modric chips the ball into the area and Mariano rises to meet it. He glances a header across goal, but it just goes around the outside of the far post, rather than in!
21' SAVED!!! De Tomas picks up the ball in space and tries his luck from 20 yards. It's a decent effort that dips and sways, but Courtois is easily able to parry and then hold the ball.
20' After breaking up a promising Espanyol attack, Real counter through Vazquez, but his inside ball to Modric is poor and goes straight to Melendo.
19' Melendo picks out Vilhena running down the left, and the winger crosses into the area. It finds only the head of Vallejo though, who knocks it away for Los Blancos.
17' No team in La Liga history has beaten the same opponent more times than Real Madrid have against Espanyol (104 wins, with a winning rate of 60.1 per cent).
16' De Tomas goes down in the box under pressure from Ceballos, but the referee says it's a fair tackle and calls play on.
14' Puado and Vazquez tussle for the ball and after being shoved away, Puado wins it back and cuts the ball back. It's a poor final ball though, and Real are able to deal with the chance once it finally comes to Darder on the edge of the area.
13' OFF THE POST!!! A Real corner is swung towards Casemiro to the back post, who heads it across goal to Mariano. His close-range finish is pushed onto the post by Lopez, before Espanyol finally clear!
11' De Tomas advances down the left, before cutting inside and crossing into the box. It finds no-one and goes behind for a goal-kick, with the Espanyol striker usually the intended target from those positions!
10' Vallejo beats Puado to the ball and passes out to Marcelo, who misjudges a back-pass and sends it rolling behind for a corner!
8' De Tomas is caught late by Casemiro on the touchline, and the ex-Real man wins an attacking free-kick.
7' OVER!!! Espanyol counter through Vilhena, who tries his luck from 25 yards. It takes a nick off Vallejo, and flies just over the bar for an early corner!
6' Camavinga plays in Rodrygo down the left, who looks to cut the ball back to Marcelo, but it's intercepted and cleared!
5' Ceballos catches Melendo late and clips the Espanyol man's heels on halfway, conceding a free-kick.
3' BLOCKED!!!! Modric cuts out a Cabrera pass and feeds Mariano. He shoots on his left foot, and it's blocked behind off Gomez!
2' Espanyol beat Los Blancos 2-1 in the reverse fixture this season, and have only done the league double over Real Madrid three times (1929-30, 1980-81 and 1995-96).
1' Darder kicks off for Espanyol, and we're underway at the Bernabeu!
The two sides come out onto the pitch, and Real will be looking to become La Liga champions in the next 90 minutes!
Raul de Tomas is second only to Benzema in the La Liga scoring charts, and will be looking to make up some ground on the Frenchman’s tally in this match, having scored in the reverse fixture too.
Real rest some key figures ahead of their Champions League semi-final second leg against Manchester City, including La Liga top scorer Karim Benzema., who of course scored twice in their 4-3 loss to City in that opening tie.
ESPANYOL SUBS: Oier Olazabal, Pere Joan, Miguelon, Manuel Morlanes, Wu Lei, Fran Merida, David Lopez, Moren Moron, Didac Vila, Landry Dimata, Nicolas Melamed, Adrian Embarba.
ESPANYOL (4-4-2): Diego Lopez; Aleix Vidal, Sergi Gomez, Fernando Calero, Leandro Cabrera; Tonny Vilhena, Yangel Herrera, Sergi Darder, Oscar Melendo; Javi Puado, Raul de Tomas.
REAL MADRID SUBS: Andriy Lunin, Diego Pineiro, Dani Carvajal, Toni Kroos, Karim Benzema, Federico Valverde, Vinicius Junior, Isco, Ferland Mendy, Gila Fuentes.
REAL MADRID (4-3-3): Thibaut Courtois; Lucas Vazquez, Jesus Vallejo, Casemiro, Marcelo; Luka Modric, Eduardo Camavinga, Dani Ceballos; Rodrygo, Mariano, Marco Asensio.
13th-placed Espanyol have lost their last two, including a dramatic late defeat to Madrid’s city rivals, Atletico, but having already beaten Los Merengues 2-1 in the reverse fixture earlier this season, will fancy their chances of producing an upset to postpone Real Madrid’s title celebrations.
Los Blancos are currently on a four-match winning streak, riding at high at the top of the table, and will be crowned league champions should they avoid defeat to Espanyol at the Bernabeu.
Hello, and welcome to live coverage of this fixture in La Liga, between Real Madrid and Espanyol.
