That will do it for our live coverage of this International Champions Cup match between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid! We hope you enjoyed following along and will join us again soon!
As for what's next for these clubs, Atletico Madrid will hope to ride this incredible momentum into their match against the MLS All-Stars on Wednesday while Real Madrid will look to put this embarrassing loss behind them when they face Tottenham on Tuesday.
Well, that match certainly was an adventure! In 90 minutes of action we had just about everything with two red cards, 10 combined goals, and 18 substitutions. After Atletico Madrid dominated the entire first half, Madrid did technically win the second (3-2), which is just about the only thing they can hang their hat on after being so thoroughly humiliated for most of the match. The tempers were certainly rising for Los Blancos, and then spilt over in the 65th minute when Carvajal took a cheap swipe at Lemar which incited a brawl that ended with the Madrid man and Costa both being sent off. Despite plenty of chances, Atleti scored just one more goal on the day while Real Madrid managed to score three goals in the final half-hour of play. Those late goals may take a bit of the sting out of this pronounced defeat, but it's unlikely that that will be enough for Zinedine Zidane to be anything other than livid with his side's performance in this match.
90' FULL-TIME: Real Madrid 3-7 Atletico Madrid
Javi Hernández
Goal
Real Madrid
89' GOOALLLLL!!!! Madrid have scored their third goal of the match! De La Fuente rose and headed a ball that hit the inside of the post and bounced across the face of goal until Hernandez hammered it into the back of the net with Oblak stranded! The scoreline looks a touch more respectable now. Real Madrid 3-7 Atletico Madrid
Nacho
Yellow Card
Real Madrid
88' Nacho is shown the yellow card after a heavy challenge on Felipe.
K. Benzema
Penalty Goal
Real Madrid
85' GOOALLLLL!!! Real Madrid score their second goal! Karim Benzema stepped up from the spot, sent Oblak the wrong way, and then tucked the ball inside the right post! It's obviously not enough, but it's something for Los Blancos. Real Madrid 2-7 Atletico Madrid
84' PENALTY CALLED! Nacho goes down in the box after a challenge from Herrera, and the referee pointed straight to the spot!
82' Benzema and Herrera collide in midfield and the former falls to the floor briefly before returning to his feet. That will surely bring a sigh of relief to Zidane.
80' CHANCE! Camello cuts the ball to Vitolo at the back post but the latter chipped the ball over both Navas and the crossbar! If he'd put that anywhere on target that surely would have been a goal!
78' Camello is played behind the Real Madrid defence, but the flag goes up for offside. He made his run just a touch too early there.
75' CHANCE! Sanchez and Camello both have chances inside the penalty area but Navas does well to keep both efforts out from incredibly close range!
73' This is the first time in the history of the Madrid Derby that a side has scored seven goals.
Vitolo
Goal
Atlético Madrid
70' GOOALLLL!!!! Atleti make it seven! Vitolo drove forward through the midfield, dropped the shoulder, dribbled into the penalty area, and then curled an effort into the bottom-left corner of goal! What a fantastic solo effort! Real Madrid 1-7 Atletico Madrid

Diego Costa
Red Card
Atlético Madrid
65' Diego Costa is shown a red card for his involvement in the scuffle.
63' There's a scuffle after Carvajal lashed out with a late challenge on Lemar. Costa came to his team-mates defence, and then everyone launched at one another. There will certainly be some paperwork to address after this.

Real Madrid
62' Hazard, who picked up the assist on the only Real Madrid goal, is now taken off with De la Fuente the replacement.

Nacho
Goal
Real Madrid
59' GOOOALLLL!!! Real Madrid open their account! Eden Hazard pushes down the left before cutting the ball into Nacho who scored with a backheel though, it must be said, it seemed the latter knew very little about it. The goal still counts though obviously, and now it's just the five goals left to score for Zidane's side to level things up. Real Madrid 1-6 Atletico Madrid
58' Koke goes down on the edge of the penalty area but the referee plays advantage and the move fails to culminate in a goal.
56' For some context on this incredible scoreline, Atletico Madrid's six goals today are two more than they managed in any match in the entire 2018/19 season.
54' Hazard plays the ball into Marcelo who flicks it up and tries an overhead kick that hits the side netting. That was an audacious effort, but the Brazilian defender was unable to make it count.
João Félix
Assist
Atlético Madrid
51' Felix played an incisive ball down the left channel to Costa who scored his fourth goal on the day!
Diego Costa
Goal
Atlético Madrid
51' GOOALLL! Atletico Madrid have scored their sixth goal of the match! Felix slipped Costa into the penalty area and the Spaniard chipped Navas with the ball landing into an open net for yet another Atleti goal! Real Madrid 0-6 Atletico Madrid
50' Vazquez chops at the feet of Lodi as Real Madrid try, inelegantly, to up the intensity.
48' Isco commits another foul, and he'll need to be careful having already picked up a yellow card.
46' The referee’s whistle sounds once more, and this match is back underway!
Lucas Vázquez
Vinícius Júnior
Real Madrid
46' Vinicius is withdrawn as Vazquez enters the fray.
K. Navas
T. Courtois
Real Madrid
46' Madrid make a change in goal as Navas replaces Courtois.
Carvajal
Odriozola
Real Madrid
46' Odriozola is replaced by the more experienced Carvajal at right back.
It will be interesting to see how these sides adjust for the second half. Atleti have dominated from literally the first minute, and will likely begin to bring on the kids as the first team have more than done their job today. Real Madrid are in a weird place though as they find themselves five goals down with an embattled Gareth Bale the only legitimate attacking star on the bench. Will Zidane bring on the Welsh winger or will he turn to some of the lesser talents on the bench?
What an incredible opening half of this match! While this is just the pre-season, both sides have played relatively strong sides and Atletico Madrid have absolutely dominated their local rivals thus far. It didn’t take long to establish that dominance either, with Atleti scoring in the first minute via the boot of Diego Costa. Things just got better, and better for Diego Simeone’s side as Felix (8’) and Correa (19’) both scored within the opening 20 minutes of the match. Then, with another pair of goals Costa (28’, 45’), Los Rojiblancos brought their lead to five right before the half. As for Real Madrid, they have looked several steps behind throughout this entire match and, despite the low stakes of this match, Zidane will surely be ranting and raving at his team in the dressing room.
45' + 1' HALF-TIME: Real Madrid 0-5 Atletico Madrid
Diego Costa
Penalty Goal
Atlético Madrid
45' GOOALLLL!!!! IT'S FIVE FOR ATLETICO MADRID! Deigo Costa stepped up from the penalty and, after seeing Courtois begin to dive, placed the ball into the space that the goalkeeper had just vacated in the centre of the goal! Real Madrid 0-5 Atletico Madrid
44' PENALTY CALLED! Costa was knocked over by Isco in the penalty area and the referee, after a brief hesitation, pointed to the spot! Can Atleti make it five before the half?
42' Marcelo takes two bites of the cherry from inside the box, but both shots are blocked before they could ever trouble Oblak.
41' Odriozola throws Felix to the floor in his own half and is called for the foul. Free-kick to Atleti.
39' CHANCE! Vincius receives the ball in the penalty area, turns, and fires a shot that hits the post and bounces out! How unlucky is that?!
38' CHANCE! Trippier launches up the right and into the box where he crosses a perfect ball into Lemar who skies the chance! What a waste of excellent service!
37' Vinicius tries his luck from outside the box and curls an effort wide of the post. That never troubled Oblak.
35' Benzema leaps over Trippier at the back post for a header, but the whistle sounds as the former is deemed to have but a forearm into the back of the defender. Free-kick to Atletico Madrid.
34' Marcelo finally gets a chance to push forward into the attacking third where he whips a cross into... no one in particular and Atleti clear easily.
Yellow Card
32' Isco both fouls Correa and then chirps at the referee and, whether for one, the other, or both, is shown the yellow card.
K. Benzema
L. Jović
Real Madrid
30' Jovic fails to recover from his injury and is now replaced by Benzema.
Saúl
Assist
Atlético Madrid
28' Niguez did well to collect the ball after Ramos' failed clearance, and the former played it forward to Costa who finished the chance well!
Diego Costa
Goal
Atlético Madrid
28' GOOALLLL!!!! ATLETI SCORE THEIR FOURTH! After a scuffed clearance by Ramos, Niguez passed the ball to Costa in the box who eyed up the right of goal before cutting the ball back into the bottom-left corner! This is getting embarrassing for Real Madrid now! Real Madrid 0-4 Atletico Madrid
27' Play starts back up again, but still no sign of Jovic.
25' The medical staff is back out on the pitch as Jovic's leg seems to have bent at an odd angle with the striker clearly in pain.
24' CHANCE! Vinicus curls a fantastic ball into the path of Jovic that Oblak somehow managed to get a hand to before the latter two collided! The referee says it's a foul though, and Atleti will have a free-kick.
22' Nacho hacks down Correa in midfield, and the former is called for the foul.
Koke
Assist
Atlético Madrid
19' Koke picked up the ball on the edge of the box and then chipped a ball in between two defenders and up to Correa who finished brilliantly for the goal!
Á. Correa
Goal
Atlético Madrid
19' GOOALLLL! It's three for Atletico Madrid! After a beautiful chipped pass in, Correa hit his shot first time and buried it into the bottom-left corner of goal with Courtois left just staring! What a match thus far for Atleti! Real Madrid 0-3 Atletico Madrid
19' Lodi, after going to ground, was hit with a dose of the magic spray by the medical staff, and now seems fine to continue.
17' PENALTY SHOUT! Lodi goes down in the penalty area with Odriozola in the vicinity! The referee saw neither a penalty nor a dive though, and says play on!
15' Lodi launches forward down the left on the counter-attack and plays the ball to Diego Costa in the penalty area, but the latter can't sort his feet out and eventually Real Madrid clear.
Á. Correa
Álvaro Morata
Atlético Madrid
13' Correa comes onto the pitch as the injured Morata departs.
13' Morata makes a signal to the bench and it looks like he's picked up a knock. The trainers are now out to check on him.
11' CHANCE! Atleti have a four-on-two advantage before Felix unleashed an early shot from outside the box that fizzed just wide of the post!
Saúl
Assist
Atlético Madrid
8' Niguez did well to work the ball to the end line before cutting the ball back to an unmarked Felix who tucked the ball into the net!
João Félix
Goal
Atlético Madrid
8' GOOALLL!!!!! ATLETICO MADRID DOUBLE THEIR LEAD! Felix scores his first-ever goal for his new club having poked a ball, that was cut back to him by Niguez, into the centre of the goal! Atleti supporters will certainly be hoping that's the first of many for the Portuguese wunderkind! Real Madrid 0-2 Atletico Madrid
7' Vinicius and Odriozoloa play a brilliant one-two that sees the latter penetrate the penalty area, but the final return ball to Vinicius is cut out by the Atleti defence and cleared upfield.
5' CHANCE! Morata beats the high-line and has a one-on-one opportunity with the goalkeeper... oh but the touch is too heavy and rolls harmlessly into the arms of Courtois! Disappointing end to a move that initially had so much promise.
3' Well, let's see how Real Madrid recover after conceding that early goal.
João Félix
Assist
Atlético Madrid
1' After receiving the ball in the middle of the pitch, Felix drove forward before playing Costa into the box where the striker finished the chance!
Diego Costa
Goal
Atlético Madrid
1' GOOOALLLLL! ATLETI SCORE IN THE FIRST MINUTE! Lemar wins the ball down the left, lays the ball over to Felix who slipped Costa into the penalty area, where the latter shot a right-footed effort across his body and into the bottom-left corner of goal! What a start! Real Madrid 0-1 Atletico Madrid
1' The referee blows his whistle, and this match is underway!
Atletico Madrid make just two changes from their 0-0 draw as Llorente and Vitolo are replaced by Koke and Felix. All eyes will certainly be on the latter though as, despite being just 19-years-old, the Portuguese international is already the fourth most expensive player in history. There have been plenty of outgoings from the club as well though as, with Antoine Griezmann, Rodri, and Diego Godin all departing, Atlelti have lost last season’s club leaders in goals, shots on target, assists, interceptions, tackles, and clearances. With these subtractions and Real Madrid’s additions, not will certainly be interesting to see which side can grab bragging rights both today, and come the season.
Real Madrid make four changes after their 2-2 draw with Arsenal last time out. Carvajal, Mendy, Vazquez, and Benzema all drop to the bench as Odriozola, Marcelo, Isco, and Vinicius come into the starting XI. Of course, there are two significant absentees today in Marco Asensio who suffered a knee ligament injury against Arsenal, and Dani Ceballos who has now joined the North London club on loan. The Asensio injury has likely made manager Zinedine Zidane re-consider his harsh stance on Gareth Bale’s position at the club, but time will tell whether the latter, and several other players, will still be wearing the Real Madrid shirt come September.
Atletico Madrid substitutes: Sergio Camello, Felipe, Hector Herrera, Angel Correa, Alex Dos Santos, Ivan Saponjic, Marcos Llorente, Juan Manuel Sanabria, Vitolo, Rodrigo Riquelme, Francisco Montero, Toni Moya, Carlos Isaac, Antonio Adan.
Atletico Madrid (4-4-2): Jan Oblak; Kieran Trippier, Stefan Savic, Mario Hermoso, Renan Lodi; Joao Felix, Saul Niguez, Koke, Thomas Lemar; Alvaro Morata, Diego Costa.
Real Madrid substitutes: Gareth Bale, Javi Hernandez, Alvaro Fidalgo, Takefusa Kubo, Ferland Mendy, Jaime Seoane, Rodrygo, Lucas Vazquez, Andriy Lunin, Karim Benzema, Diego Altube, Adrian De la Fuente, Keylor Navas, Brahim Diaz, Daniel Carvajal, Raphael Varane, Mariano.
Real Madrid (4-3-3): Thibaut Courtois; Alvaro Odriozola, Sergio Ramos, Nacho, Marcelo; Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Isco; Vinicius Junior, Luka Jovic, Eden Hazard.
Now, let’s take a look at the team news!
Don’t be surprised if the score is level after 90 minutes as three of the last five matches between these sides, in all competitions, have ended in draws.
