Commentary

Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
Manchester United are next in action in the Premier League on Sunday away to Liverpool at Anfield, while Wolves are also on the road at Southampton on Saturday.
Manchester United secure their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup courtesy of a 1-0 win over Wolves at Old Trafford this evening. Juan Mata scored the only goal of the game on a counter after being released by Anthony Martial. The Spaniard held his composure to lift his effort over John Ruddy to find the net. It was the one piece of quality that either team produced in the final third. Wolves did have a goal disallowed by VAR for a handball against Raul Jimenez after Pedro Neto thought he had put the visitors ahead. Both teams were wasteful in front of goal as Daniel James missed a couple of good openings, while Jimenez also failed to convert from close range. Martial and Mata were able to combine to break the deadlock, and United were solid enough at the back to see out the win. It was not perfect, but it was enough for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men this evening. The only worry for United will be the injury that Marcus Rashford sustained in the second half that forced him off. With Liverpool to play on Sunday, his condition will be worth monitoring over the coming days. Wolves extend their winless run to five matches and Nuno Espirito Santo will be getting a tad concerned about his side's form since the turn of the year, although exiting the FA Cup will reduce the workload on his squad.
90' + 5' FULL-TIME: MANCHESTER UNITED 1-0 WOLVES
90' + 4' Vinagre is down for Wolves, which looks to be a hamstring injury.
90' + 4' SAVE! Martial leads a break out from the back and feeds Pereira for a strike at goal, but he drills his effort straight at Ruddy.
90' + 3' Wolves win a free-kick and pump the ball forward, but Jimenez is unable to control the ball on the edge of the box.
90' + 2' United are working time off the clock and are closing in on a place in the fourth round.
90' There will be four minutes of added time.
90' Dendoncker works the ball to Buur and he goes for a cross into the box that strikes Lindelof and goes behind for a corner. There are appeals for a penalty for handball, but there is nothing the United defender could do to stop the ball striking his arm in front of his body.
O. Buur
Adama Traoré
Wolverhampton Wanderers
88' Traore is struggling with his movement and makes way for Buur for the closing stages.
86' Jimenez battles Maguire down the right flank and wins the duel to lift a cross to the back post, but it just sails over the head of Gibbs-White. Agony for Wolves.
85' Rashford is the first Manchester United player to both come on as a substitute before then being substituted himself in the same FA Cup match since Alan Smith against Liverpool in February 2006.
L. Dendoncker
Yellow Card
Wolverhampton Wanderers
84' Dendoncker lunges in on Wan-Bissaka and goes into the book.
83' Vinagre surges forward and breaks into a promising posiiton, only to overrun the ball at the vital moment on the edge of the box.
82' OVER! Moutinho works a pass back to Neves on the edge of the box from a corner. The Portuguese swings a right foot at the ball on the half-volley, but he sends his effort narrowly over the bar. Neves has his head in his hands. He feels that he should have tested Romero there.
J. Lingard
M. Rashford
Manchester United
80' Rashford is withdrawn and is replaced by Lingard. A huge blow for the Red Devils.
78' Doherty breaks down the right flank and whips a cross to the back post. Vinagre sends it down towards Jimenez, but the forward just cannot bring it under control amid pressure from the United defence.
77' Rashford returns to the field after treatment, but he is struggling with an apparent knock.
76' A huge concern for Solskjaer as Rashford goes down following a challenge by Doherty. He was withdrawn at the weekend and he may have to be brought off here.
Rúben Vinagre
Jonny Castro
Wolverhampton Wanderers
75' Vinagre enters the action to replace Jonny for the visitors.
H. Maguire
Yellow Card
Manchester United
74' Maguire goes into the book for a foul on Jimenez.
72' Mata has been directly involved in three goals in his last two games for Man Utd (one goal, two assists), as many as he was in his first 20 appearances of the 2019-20 season in all competitions before this.
M. Gibbs-White
Pedro Neto
Wolverhampton Wanderers
71' Neto is withdrawn from the action and is replaced by Gibbs-White.
71' Neto surges forward and has support from Traore running alongside him. He tries to thread a pass through to the winger, but he overhits it and it travels into the arms of Romero.
69' United were clinical on the counter when they needed to be and now have a lead to defend.
Mata
Goal
Manchester United
67' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!! MATA BREAKS THE DEADLOCK!! 1-0 UNITED!!! The home side have the breakthrough as Mata latches on to a throughball from Martial and clips his effort over Ruddy into the net. Martial gathers the ball on the half-way line and spots the run of his team-mate on the charge. He plays a precise pass to Mata to put him one-on-one with Ruddy. Mata holds his composure to lift a left-footed strike over Ruddy and it has enough pace to roll over the line.
A. Martial
Assist
Manchester United
67' Martial plays a pinpoint pass through to Mata to collect and score.
67' Doherty charges forward to latch on to an offload from Neto and he skips past Fred's challenge, but Maguire covering makes a vital challenge.
66' Wan-Bissaka has a charge down the right flank, but he overhits his delivery into the middle. It wouldn't have mattered anyway as there were no red shirts in the box to attack a potential cross.
Andreas Pereira
M. Greenwood
Manchester United
64' Greenwood has been off the pace tonight and is replaced by Pereira.
M. Rashford
D. James
Manchester United
64' Rashford replaces James in the final third for the home side.
63' Moutinho brings down Martial on the charge and United win a free-kick in the Wolves half, although there's no booking for the midfielder.
61' Traore releases Neto into space down the right flank, but Maguire and Williams are able to double up on the winger. Williams wins back possession for the home side with a strong challenge.
Pedro Neto
Yellow Card
Wolverhampton Wanderers
59' Neto slides to bring down Williams on the charge and goes into the book.
57' United are struggling to get a hold of possession to put the visitors under pressure. Wolves are looking the more likely to break the deadlock at the moment.
55' OVER! Neto breaks down the right and skips past Maguire's challenge with ease. Lindelof has to be alert at the back post to clear his cross away from Jimenez. Wolves recycle possession and Jonny tees up the Mexican for a strike that goal that he lifts just over the bar.
54' OVER! Neves latches on to a loose ball 25 yards from goal and strikes with power towards the net, but his effort sails well over the bar. Not the Portuguese's best.
52' CLOSE! Williams slides a pass into the feet of James, who takes a good first touch to surge into the left inside channel. He fires his effort across goal, but it just drifts past the bottom-right post.
50' Traore speeds down the left flank and leaves Wan-Bissaka behind him. He lifts a cross into the middle, but the delivery sails over the heads of Jimenez and Neto.
49' Mata has space 25 yards from goal and pulls the trigger on a left-footed strike, but Ruddy watches it all the way and makes a comfortable save.
47' Williams tries to work a throughball down the line for the run of James, but the winger moves too soon and is caught offside.
46' We're back underway at Old Trafford.
United have been inconsistent once again in front of their own fans. They've had a couple of moments when James has broken behind the Wolves defence, but other than that they've been a tad underwhelming in the final third. Nuno Santo's men have looked fairly solid and a threat through their wingers, while Jimenez has not been firing on all cylinders in the box. It might take a moment of inspiration to break the deadlock tonight.
It's goalless at the break between Manchester United and Wolves in their FA Cup third round replay clash at Old Trafford. The visitors had the ball in the net as Pedro Neto slotted a strike past Sergio Romero, only to see it disallowed by VAR for a handball in the build-up by Raul Jimenez. Jimenez also missed a good opportunity from close range, placing a tame effort straight at Romero. At the other end, John Ruddy has been active, keeping Daniel James at bay twice, while producing another solid stop to deny Juan Mata. There have been chances for both sides, but they have to be more clinical in the final third to capitalise on their openings.
45' + 2' HALF-TIME: MANCHESTER UNITED 0-0 WOLVES
45' There will be one minute of added time.
44' Williams and Neto have a mild melee for the ball after a free-kick is awarded to United. The referee has a word with both players, although no further action is taken.
42' SAVE! Fred releases James in behind the Wolves backline and the winger takes the ball in stride. He takes on the strike with his left foot, but Ruddy stays big and makes fine stop with his body to deny the Wales international.
41' Mata bends his cross deep into the box on this occasion, but Ruddy comes through a crowd of players to make a comfortable claim.
40' Neto defends the left flank well for the visitors, fending off an attempt by James to whip a delivery into the middle. United have another corner.
39' Wan-Bissaka charges at Saiss down the right flank, but the defender holds firm to divert his cross behind for a corner.
Fred
Yellow Card
Manchester United
37' Fred goes into the book for the home side for a foul on Neto.
36' Neves guides a long ball over the top for Jimenez to chase, but Romero is there first with an acrobatic kick to clear the danger.
33' SAVE! Martial gathers in space and runs at the Wolves backline. He opens up room to strike at goal, but the forward can only place his effort straight at Ruddy.
32' Jonny seizes on a mistake from Lindelof and he combines with Moutinho to release Traore down the left flank. He digs out a cross into the middle for Jimenez to rise to head at goal, but the Mexican cannot generate the power on his header to trouble Romero.
30' OFF THE POST! Wolves attempt another tricky corner routine and United are caught out as Neves clips a cross to the back post. Doherty breaks behind Williams and directs a header towards goal, only to see it clip the inside of the post and bounce out. Jimenez tries to latch on to it, but the offside flag is raised against the forward.
29' SAVE! Space opens up in the Wolves box for Mata to turn and strike with power, but he cannot get his effort away from Ruddy, who makes a solid stop for the visitors.
28' Romero hesitates as Neves launches a ball over the top for Neto to chase. Williams does enough to stop the winger's run before the United keeper can gather the loose ball.
25' Wan-Bissaka has a run at Saiss down the right flank for the home side. His attempted cross is blocked by the Wolves defender and deflects back off the United full-back before travelling behind for a goal-kick.
23' CLOSE! Matic has to be alert at the back post from a Wolves corner. Moutinho curls a dangerous cross into the middle that is flicked on by Lindelof. Fortunately for the Swede, his team-mate is there to nod the ball over the bar.
22' OVER! Fred latches on to the ball following Mata's corner, which is cleared to him on the edge of the box. The midfielder goes for a first-time strike, only to hammer his effort over the bar.
21' BLOCK! Dendoncker puts his body on the line to block a left-footed strike from Fred after the Brazilian turns in space to fire at goal from 20 yards.
20' Mata sends a throughball forward for the run of Martial, but the Frenchman slips at the crucial moment.
18' Wolves have taken control of the contest in the early stages, but the home side seem content to draw the visitors forward and hit them on the break.
16' Jimenez works an offload into the path of Neto down the right flank. He cuts inside to run at Matic, but the Serb fends him off and guides the ball out for a goal-kick.
14' WIDE! Greenwood latches on to a long ball forward by Lindelof and knocks an offload back to Martial 20 yards from goal. The Frenchman goes for goal first time, but pulls his effort wide of the target.
12' Jimenez is not thrilled with the decision, but he has caused United a lot of problems in the early stages of the game.
10' DISALLOWED GOAL! Neto believes that he has put Wolves ahead from close range after Jimenez charges down a clearance from Maguire following a mistake by Fred. The winger dispatches his finish past Romero, but the goal is disallowed as the ball struck the hand of Jimenez on its way to Neto. A let off for United.
10' Matic is fortunate to escape a booking as he pulls back Traore on the charge through the middle. Wolves have a free-kick in the United half.
9' United apply pressure as James gets in behind the Wolves backline. He cannot create room for a strike, but finds Mata. The Spaniard fakes a shot and offloads to Martial, but the forward sees his effort charged down.
8' CHANCE! Traore surges down the left flank and delivers a dangerous cross into the middle. Jimenez takes it out of the air with a fine piece of skill and then he turns two men to create room for a strike. The forward has the entire net to aim at, but he places a tame effort straight at Romero.
5' WIDE! Neto slides a pass to Jimenez and he angles a left-footed strike across goal from the right inside channel, but it travels comfortably wide of the post.
4' Wan-Bissaka charges forward down the right flank for the home side and he tries to break into the box, but Saiss does just enough with his sliding challenge to nudge the ball away from the full-back.
3' Mata lifts a dangerous ball over the top for the run of James. Ruddy rushes off his line and gets a hand to the ball as the winger tries to round him. Doherty is on hand to clear behind for a corner.
1' We're underway at Old Trafford.
Manchester United are without a win in five games against Wolves in all competitions (D3 L2) since a 5-0 victory in the Premier League in March 2012.
Wolves have made their intention known for the competition by making only one change to their side from their draw against Newcastle. Ruddy gets the nod to start in goal ahead of Patricio, who drops to the bench. All the outfield roles are unchanged from the weekend.
United have made three changes to their side from the win over Norwich at the weekend. Romero comes into the team between the sticks, while Greenwood and James get the nod to start in the final third. Rashford takes a place on the bench to rest up after coming off with an injury on Saturday and Pereira joins him on the sideline.
WOLVES SUBS: Ryan Bennett, Rui Patricio, Morgan Gibbs-White, Ruben Vinagre, Maximilian Kilman, Benny Ashley-Seal, Oskar Buur.
WOLVES (3-4-3): John Ruddy; Leander Dendoncker, Conor Coady, Romain Saiss; Matt Doherty, Joao Moutinho, Ruben Neves, Jonny; Adama Traore, Pedro Neto, Raul Jimenez.
MANCHESTER UNITED SUBS: Phil Jones, Marcus Rashford, Lee Grant, Jesse Lingard, Andreas Pereira, Diogo Dalot, Tahith Chong.
MANCHESTER UNITED (4-2-3-1): Sergio Romero; Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Brandon Williams; Fred, Nemanja Matic; Mason Greenwood, Juan Mata, Daniel James; Anthony Martial.
Wolves enter the contest on a four-match winless run, including their draw against Newcastle United at the weekend. Nuno Espirito Santo's men went behind to a strike from Miguel Almiron, but responded through Leander Dendoncker. However, they were unable to get the winner, which has left them marginally off the pace of fifth place in the Premier League. Nuno will still have ambitions in the cup and a victory could provide a jolt to break Wolves out of their slump.
United bounced back to form at the weekend, ending a three-match winless run with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Norwich City. Marcus Rashford scored twice, while Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood also got on the scoresheet. The Red Devils have been inconsistent throughout the term and will need to channel their best to see off Wolves this evening to advance the fourth round of the FA Cup after both teams drew a blank at Molineux.
Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the FA Cup third round replay clash between Manchester United and Wolves at Old Trafford.
