Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
United are next in action in the FA Cup next Monday against Chelsea, while PSG play Saint-Etienne on the road in Ligue 1 at the weekend.
Paris Saint-Germain secure a huge result this evening in their bid to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Goals from Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe have handed Thomas Tuchel's men a massive advantage heading into the second leg, with the added cushion of two away goals. Given their history in the competition no lead is safe for the French champions, but they will feel confident about their chances of progressing. Manchester United endured a reality check under the tenure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. For the first time they were outplayed, failing to make an impact in the final third, while their defensive deficiencies were exposed. They will have to travel to Paris and score at least two goals to turn the tie around with the added detriment of being without Paul Pogba. It will take a special effort from this point to keep their European campaign alive.
90' + 4' The visitors will see out the game with little drama to head into the second leg with a huge advantage.
90' + 3' The away supporters are enjoying the game now as PSG are knocking the ball around the pitch with ease.
L. Shaw
Yellow Card
90' + 2' Shaw brings down Dani Alves on the flank and goes into the book.
90' There will be four minutes of added time.
P. Pogba
Yellow 2nd/RC
89' OFF! Pogba is given a second yellow card for the challenge. It looked as though initially he had gotten away with a lunge that caught Dani Alves high on his leg. However, the referee thought for about 30 seconds before reaching for the red card. United's evening gets even worse.
89' Pogba raids down the left flank and loses out to Alves. He lunges in on the Brazilian to give away a free-kick.
Ander Herrera
Yellow Card
87' Herrera brings down Mbappe on the charge and goes into the book.
86' Mata tries to work the ball through to Sanchez, but the Chilean is caught offside. Sanchez has been disappointing since his introduction before half time.
R. Lukaku
M. Rashford
84' Rashford has had a frustrating evening and he makes way for Lukaku.
84' Mata tries to bundle his way through the PSG defence, but he has to offload under pressure. Rashford tries a strike at goal, but he sees his effort blocked. Frustration for the home side.
82' Herrera collects on the edge of the box and tries to line up a strike from 20 yards, but he curls his effort over the bar.
C. Dagba
Á. Di María
81' Dagba replaces Di Maria for the visitors.
78' United work the ball around the edge of the box with pace before Herrera releases Young down the right flank. However, he moves a fraction too early and is caught offside.
76' Thiago Silva and Kimpembe are well placed in the middle to clear two crosses from Young away from danger before Mata skews a low strike wide of the target.
L. Paredes
M. Verratti
75' Paredes replaces Verratti for the visitors.
74' Verratti is struggling for the visitors and may have to be withdrawn here. He did have a problem before the game, but he was willing to tough it out for his team. However, 74 minutes appears to be his limit.
73' PSG are sitting back and inviting pressure in the final third. United are committing bodies forward in response, but it does leave them vulnerable on the break.
71' Young sends two disappointing crosses into the box from the left flank. From a corner he fails to beat the first man, while his second is caught with ease by Buffon.
70' BLOCK! Verratti puts his body on the line to stop a drive from Herrera on the edge of the box. Pogba did well to tee up his team-mate, but the Italian was well placed to deny the United midfielder.
67' The home side work the ball down the left flank and Shaw collects from a cross from the right flank by Herrera. He lines up a strike at goal, only to be denied by a good block by Kehrer.
66' United need a response here. They've been rocked by the two PSG goals and have to force at least one goal to get back into the tie.
64' SAVE! PSG are rolling now and are putting United under serious pressue. De Gea keeps his side in the game and perhaps the tie with a fine stop to deny Bernat's blast from the left inside channel, turning the ball over the bar.
63' MISS! PSG SHOULD HAVE THREE! Mbappe is played through on the counter by Di Maria. He has acres of room to surge into the right inside channel. The forward only has De Gea to beat, but he tries to chip the Spaniard and sees his effort stopped with one hand.
Dani Alves
Yellow Card
62' Dani Alves goes into the book for a loose challenge on Pogba.
Á. Di María
60' Di Maria haunts his former club by surging down the left flank before placing a perfect cross for Mbappe to slot home.
K. Mbappé
60' GOALLLLLLLLLLLL!!!! MBAPPE SLOTS HOME!!! 2-0 PSG!!! The visitors double their advantage on the break, with Mbappe converting from close range producing a simple finish. Di Maria was played into acres of space down the left flank. The Argentine supplied a perfect low ball across the face of goal for the run of the forward. Mbappe placed his effort past De Gea from six yards to hand his team a crucial second away goal. PSG are in complete control now.
59' WIDE! Mata clips a ball into the box that Thiago Silva clears as far as the edge of the area. Herrera lines up a strike on the half-volley and he fires the ball into the deck to trickle just wide of the post.
58' PSG have found their rhythm in the second half and are exerting serious pressure on the home side.
56' CLOSE! United struggle to clear their lines from another corner. De Gea punches, but does not get enough on his clearance. Dani Alves lines up a drive from distance, which flies towards the bottom corner, only to be deflected inches wide of the post by Pogba.
54' Kimpembe has scored his first Champions League goal in his 11th appearance.
Á. Di María
53' Di Maria curls a cross to the back post, allowing Kimpembe to convert.
P. Kimpembe
53' GOALLLLLLLLLLL!!! KIMPEMBE PUTS PSG AHEAD!! 1-0!!! The French champions take the lead as Kimpembe converts from the corner. Di Maria whipped the resulting corner to the back post. Kimpembe stole a march on Matic, who switched off, allowing the defender to guide the ball beyond De Gea into the roof of the net. PSG have a vital away goal.
53' SAVE! De Gea has to be alert at his near post as Mbappe latches on to a cross from the right flank from Dani Alves. He stoops to head towards the bottom corner, but De Gea palms the ball behind for a corner.
V. Lindelöf
Yellow Card
50' Lindelof brings down Mbappe and goes into the book.
49' Rashford drifts on to the right flank and he is faced with Thiago Silva. He tries to combine with Mata, but United are unable to open up the PSG defence.
47' Kimpembe and Rashford collide down the right flank, but the referee waves play on amid the contact and appeals from the United fans.
46' We're back underway at Old Trafford.
A. Martial
46' Martial is also withdrawn at the break as Mata replaces the Frenchman, who may have been carrying an injury.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have been disappointed with his side's performance in the first half. They have been free flowing in the Premier League in his short tenure, but this evening they've been a bit tepid, which could be due to nerves. Alexis Sanchez's arrival may give the home side a touch of composure in the final third to open up the contest.
It has been a tepid first half between Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of this round-of-16 Champions League clash. The visitors have had the best opportunity of the match when Kylian Mbappe was put clean through, only for the Frenchman to fire wide of the target. Mbappe may have been offside anyway, which would have been interesting if VAR were to be involved. Other than his miss, both teams have been quiet in front of goal. The biggest issue for United was the loss of Jesse Lingard due to injury. Both managers will be demanding more from their teams after the break.
A. Sánchez
J. Lingard
45' + 4' Sanchez replaces the injured Lingard for United.
45' + 3' Lingard is back on the field, although he appears to be struggling.
45' + 2' OVER! Dani Alves takes the resulting free-kick and lines up a strike from distance, only to fire his effort over the bar.
45' Lingard is down for the hosts after falling down after releasing the ball downfield prior to the Draxler break. That will be a concern for Solskjaer.
45' Matic has to act at the back for the hosts to bring down Draxler on the charge. PSG have a free-kick in a threatening position.
44' Bernat drives forward down the left after linking up with Di Maria and wins a corner for his team. However, Pogba rises highest to clear the danger for the home side.
43' It has been a scrappy game thus far. Neither side has operated near the peak of their powers, which will suit the visitors a lot more than United.
42' United win a corner, although once again the visitors are able to clear the danger. Lindelof collects and lines up a strike from distance, but his effort goes tamely past the post.
39' Young and Di Maria collide down the left flank, with the United skipper sending his former team-mate into the stands. There is a coming together of both teams, but the referee does well to bring the incident under control. Di Maria appears to be ok after falling towards advertising boards.
37' OFFSIDE! PSG break through the United midfield and Marquinhos threads a pass through looking for Mbappe. Di Maria takes over from the Frenchman and tries to round De Gea, only to place a tame effort straight at the keeper. However, the Argentine was offside anyway.
35' Tuchel is not happy with his team and their distribution in the first half. The same could be said for United and Solskjaer, although he has been more passive on the bench.
Juan Bernat
Yellow Card
34' Yet another player goes into the book this evening. Bernat fouls Young and is yellow carded.
32' Kimpembe takes his life into his own hands as he lunges in on a challenge with Shaw. The referee deems that it was a fair one, although it was a close call.
31' United are able to clear their lines from the resulting free-kick. The deliveries into the box have not been good enough from either team this evening.
A. Young
Yellow Card
30' Young takes out Mbappe on the counter down the left flank and goes into the book.
30' United open up PSG down the left flank as Martial releases Shaw. However, the cutback from the United left-back is cleared on the slide by Kimpembe.
28' MISS! MBAPPE HAS TO SCORE! Verratti and Draxler combine to open up the United defence. The German slides a pass through to Mbappe in the box, but on the slide the Frenchman can only slice his strike wide of the target. Replays show he may have been offside, which could have seen the goal disallowed by VAR.
P. Pogba
Yellow Card
26' Verratti wins another free-kick for the visitors as Pogba catches him a fraction late in a challenge.
25' Verratti puts himself under pressure by hanging on to the ball for too long on the edge of his own box. Rashford tries to steal the ball, but the Italian draws a foul from the striker.
24' Rashford and Lingard combine to release the latter into acres of space. He looks for an offload to the left flank for Martial, but the Frenchman fails to control the ball and it travels out for a throw-in.
21' Both sides are not committing too many men forward at this stage. It has been a reserved start at Old Trafford.
J. Draxler
Yellow Card
19' Another booking for the visitors as Draxler is carded for a foul on Herrera.
18' Kimpembe makes a vital clearing header at the near post to prevent Young's dangerous cross from reaching three United players in the middle waiting to pounce. He had to make that header.
16' Pogba makes a lung-bursting run down the right flank and he beats the challenge of Kimpembe with ease. The Frenchman tries to fire a low ball across the face of goal, but Buffon is able to gather and hold amid pressure from Lingard.
14' PSG work the ball around the red shirts in the United half, but Alves fails to pick out a team-mate in the box with his cross.
13' United have tried to get at the PSG defence in the early stages of the match, but they've lacked rhythm in the final third.
P. Kimpembe
Yellow Card
11' Kimpembe earns the first yellow card of the match as he trips Rashford on the charge.
9' From the resulting corner Rashford fouls Verratti in the box, allowing the visitors to clear their lines once again.
8' Rashford tries to catch out Buffon with a strike towards his near post, but the veteran keeper is alert to punch the ball behind for a corner.
6' WIDE! PSG spread the ball around the edge of the United box before Di Maria takes on the strike, curling his effort just wide of the post. A warning for the hosts.
5' Lingard makes a run into the final third and releases Rashford. The England man has options in the middle, but he fails to beat Bernat with his pass inside.
3' PSG are able to clear their lines from the free-kick. A wasted opportunity for the home side in the opening minutes, although this United side is lacking in height outside of their central defenders and Matic.
2' Lingard has space to surge into after collecting Matic's offload, but he gets tripped by Marquinhos before he can advance into the final third. United have an early free-kick.
1' We're underway at Old Trafford.
There will be a minute of applause before kick-off in memory of Emiliano Sala and Gordon Banks.
No French team has ever beaten Manchester Utd away from home in European competition (D4 L10). In the Champions League, only two French sides have avoided defeat at Old Trafford: Monaco in March 1998 (1-1), Lille in October 2005 (0-0).
PSG have made six changes to their side that beat Bordeaux last time out. Already without Neymar, Tuchel was handed a further blow when Cavani suffered an injury at the weekend. The Uruguayan misses out, leaving Mbappe to lead the line. Di Maria supports the Frenchman in attack. Kehrer, Bernat, Marquinhos and Draxler also come into the team this evening.
United have made five changes from their win over Fulham last time out. Rashford, Lingard, Bailly, Young and Lindelof all come into the fold to start against the French champions. Jones, Dalot, Mata and Lukaku drop to the bench. Chris Smalling misses out altogether.
SUBS: Leandro Paredes, Alphonse Areola, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Layvin Kurzawa, Christopher Nkunku, Moussa Diaby, Colin Dagba.
PSG (4-3-3): Gianluigi Buffon; Thilo Kehrer, Thiago Silva, Presnel Kimpembe, Juan Bernat; Marco Verratti, Marquinhos, Julian Draxler; Dani Alves, Kylian Mbappe, Angel di Maria.
SUBS: Phil Jones, Alexis Sanchez, Juan Mata, Romelu Lukaku, Fred, Diogo Dalot, Sergio Romero.
MANCHESTER UNITED (4-3-3): David de Gea; Ashley Young, Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw; Ander Herrera, Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba; Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial.
Thomas Tuchel is under pressure to end PSG's cycle of failure in the Champions League. The club have been unable to progress beyond the round-of-16 stage for the last two seasons, losing at the hands of Barcelona and Real Madrid. Tuchel's predecessor Unai Emery paid the price for failing to reach the latter stages of the competition. Tuchel will be desperate for a positive performance in the first leg, although without Neymar and Edinson Cavani, his team are without firepower in the final third.
Manchester United have enjoyed a resurgence under the tenure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer since the Norwegian replaced Jose Mourinho. The Red Devils have been scoring freely and have moved into the top four of the Premier League after dropping only two points in their last nine games. The club have also advanced to the fifth round of the FA Cup, defeating Arsenal on the road in the process. United had the opportunity to avoid a top-ranked team in the round of 16, but their defeat to Valencia in their final group game knocked them behind Juventus into second place. They've earned a break playing PSG without Neymar, but they still need a strong performance this evening to have a hope of progressing.
Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the Champions League round-of-16 clash between Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain at Old Trafford.
