Commentary

Thanks for joining our commentary this afternoon. Until next time, goodbye.
A huge win for City as they maintain their 100% record. Their performance in the first half has seen them edge out their great rivals as goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Kelechi Iheanacho secure the win, despite Zlatan Ibrahimovic's strike before the break. Mourinho's men upped the ante late in the contest, but the visitors held out for the victory.
FULL-TIME: MAN UTD 1-2 MAN CITY
That's it. City have won the Manchester derby.
Fernandinho
Yellow Card
Manchester City
Fernando goes into the book for a cynical challenge.
CHANCE! Ibrahimovic flicks the ball on and Bravo comes for it. Pogba knocks it past the keeper, but Stones is on hand to clear the danger. The Frenchman just didn't get enough power on his shot.
CHANCE! Ibrahimovic swipes at the ball on the edge of the box and his strike takes a deflection. It loops towards the net as Bravo looks stranded on his line, but it goes wide of the post.
There will be five minutes of added time.
P. Zabaleta
K. De Bruyne
Manchester City
De Bruyne makes way for Zabaleta in the dying minutes.
End to end game at the moment as City are unable to kill the Reds off on the counter. De Bruyne almost carves out room, but he strikes his effort wide of the post.
All hands on deck for City at the back as the home side up the ante. Ibrahimovic's flick almost falls for Rooney, but Fernando sticks out a leg to deny the United skipper.
Rooney is played through the inside channel,. but Otamendi gets back well at him to put him off the striker. United try to recycle possession, but the Blues get men back behind the ball to quell the attack.
W. Rooney
Yellow Card
Manchester United
A nasty challenge by Rooney on Bravo as he catches the City keeper late. Finally he gets booked, he probably would not have made that tackle had he been cautioned earlier.
A. Martial
L. Shaw
Manchester United
Mourinho throws caution to the winds by replacing Shaw with Martial.
United are just beginning to show signs of fatigue with their string of late challenges. City are growing in confidence, but may need to kill the game off here.
De Bruyne strikes with power, but sends his strike well over the crossbar. Will the visitors rue these missed opportunities?
Rooney somehow avoids a booking for bringing down Fernandinho on the edge of the box. City will have a free-kick in a dangerous position though as De Bruyne stands over the ball.
CHANCE! City are all over United on the counter now as De Bruyne continues to shine. He feeds Silva on the edge of the box, but he can only curl his effort over the bar.
OFF THE POST! City will not come closer than this to snatching the three points. Sane breaks and sends a incisive throughball for De Bruyne to attack. He strikes first time inside the box, but his effort clatters off the inside of the post, rolls along the goalline and heads out for a goal-kick.
De Gea makes a tremendous kick downfield to set up Herrera, but Fernando gets back well to stop the Spaniard's cross from reaching Rashford at the back post.
Fellaini has to be on the spot to stop De Bruyne in his tracks as the Belgian appeared to be lining up a strike from a tight angle, but he denied his compatriot with a good block.
CHANCE! Fernandinho meets De Bruyne's corner from the right and forces De Gea into a good save. Otamendi tries to pounce on the rebound, but the United defenders do just enough to force it behind for another set-piece.
OFFSIDE! United think they're back in the game as Rashford smashes the ball into the net, but his effort took a huge deflection off Ibrahimovic in an offside position on its way into the net. A good decision by the linesman.
Sane latches on to a loose ball on the edge of the box and drives at Shaw. He gets a bit of fortune to continue to the byline, but his effort gets deflected into the hands of De Gea.
CHANCE! A long ball forward from the home side is knocked down by Fellaini into Ibrahimovic. The Swede takes the volley on the first bounce, but drills his strike over the bar and gets clattered by Otamendi in the process.
The visitors are using their pace well on the counter, but their passing has lacked the slickness of the first period. Nolito and De Bruyne linked up, but failed to find the penetration needed to threaten De Gea.
United win the ball back in midfield and Rooney collects 30 yards from goal. He lines up an effort from distance, but pulls his strike well past the post.
City break with numbers down the left and De Bruyne beats the challenge of Valencia. The Belgian tries to cut the ball back into the middle, but his cross sails into the hands of De Gea.
L. Sané
R. Sterling
Manchester City
Sane makes his Premier League debut by replacing Sterling.
City cannot find a way out of their own box and Stones is forced to hoof the ball downfield. It's crazy how one goal can completely change the outlook of a match.
A complete contrast to the first half as United are all over City. Bravo has no confidence whatsoever, which is effecting the visitors' passing game. Every time the ball goes back to the keeper City are fearing the worst.
OH DEAR! Bravo almost hands a second goal to United by losing control of the ball and Rooney races into the box to capitalise. The keeper throws himself into the challenge and wins the ball, although it didn't appear to be the best of tackles. However, Clattenburg waves play on.
City are attempting to take the sting out of United's early pressure in the second half by getting back into their passing game.
Fernando
K. Iheanacho
Manchester City
Due to United's fast start to the half Guardiola has pulled Iheanacho for Fernando to provide stability in the middle of the park.
M. Fellaini
Yellow Card
Manchester United
Fellaini catches Kolarov with his arm and gets booked by Clattenburg.
Z. Ibrahimović
Yellow Card
Manchester United
Ibrahimovic goes into the book for catching Otamendi late.
Rooney catches Otamendi late with a challenge, but Clattenburg opts against booking the United skipper. He may be on his last warning.
United press down the right flank and Valencia sends a cross into Ibrahimovic. The Swede controls on the edge of the box and then opens up space for a volley, although he crashes his strike over the bar.
Rashford turns his man 25 yards from goal and opts to strike the ball towards the net. Otamendi makes the block, but the momentum appears to have switched towards United in the early stages of the second half.
Rashford makes an immediate impact as he skins Sagna down the left. He lifts a cross into the box, but Ibrahimovic can only blast his effort over the bar.
We're back underway at Old Trafford.
M. Rashford
J. Lingard
Manchester United
Lingard also had difficulties and makes way for Rashford.
Ander Herrera
H. Mkhitaryan
Manchester United
Mkhitaryan was poor in the first half and has been replaced by Herrera.
The players are back out on the pitch, so we should be underway shortly.
STAT ATTACK! United have only won one Manchester derby in the Premier League when they have been behind at the break. That came in November 1993 in a 3-2 victory for Ferguson's men.
What a mad first half that was. City were dominant for 41 minutes and seemingly in cruise control through goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Kelechi Iheanacho. However, a costly error from Claudio Bravo allowed the home side to get back into the game as Zlatan Ibrahimovic powered a volley into the net. The panic set in for the visitors, who almost conceded an equaliser late on, but United couldn't capitalise again.
HALF-TIME: MAN UTD 1-2 MAN CITY
Clattenburg ends the first half at Old Trafford.
PANIC! Bravo is all over the place at the back as he scampers off his line to deal with a throughball. Stones tries to block off Lingard for the Chilean to collect, but the United winger gets there first. He slides the ball to Ibrahimovic, but the Swede scuffs his effort and the visitors clear. And breathe...
E. Bailly
Yellow Card
Manchester United
Bailly is booked for pulling back Silva.
CHANCE! City's passing game sees them lose possession in a dangerous area for the first time, allowing Ibrahimovic to feed Rooney. The captain sends a cross deep to the back post for the Swede, but he heads his effort straight at Bravo.
There will be two minutes of added time.
That's just what United needed before the break to raise their spirits. City have been brilliant, but their lead has been halved due to the Chilean's mistake. Would Hart have made that error?
Z. Ibrahimović
Goal
Manchester United
GOAL!!! United get back into the game through Ibrahimovic, but Bravo makes a huge error on his debut. The keeper comes for a cross through a crowd of players, but fails to gather. He drops the ball at the feet of Ibrahimovic, who smashes a volley into the top corner. Game on.
David Silva
Yellow Card
Manchester City
Silva goes into the book for a challenge on Valencia, although the worse tackle may well have been from Otamendi.
The effort has been there for United but the City workrate and their own lack of clinical edge in the final third has left them trailing here. They cannot afford to concede a third goal before the break.
Mourinho looks stunned on the touchline. He then gestures to his side to get on with the restart, but they have been totally outplayed thus far. A contrast of emotions on the other bench as Guardiola and his staff celebrate with glee.
K. Iheanacho
Goal
Manchester City
GOAL!!!!! City double their lead through Iheanacho converting from close range. The strike is all about De Bruyne though as he twists two United defenders in the box before firing an effort at goal. It clatters off the post and rebounds straight to his team-mate, who makes no mistake.
Calmness personified by City at the back as the home side put the pressure on. Their passing game helps them come away with ease as De Bruyne drops back into the defence to help his defenders out.
Stones has looked solid at the back so far, but he has his first uncertain moment dealing with Shaw's cross from the left. He slices his clearance, but it lands back at the feet of Bravo rather than a United player.
Neat play by City on the edge of the United box with Silva, Iheanacho and De Bruyne all involved before it reaches Sterling on the right. He opens up space for a strike on his left foot, but Bailly makes the block to deny him.
Fellaini and Nolito tussle down the left as the Spaniard tries to break into the box. The United man does just enough to clear, but only as far as Sagna who strikes a peach of a volley towards the net. Fortunately for De Gea the Frenchman's strike drifts narrowly over the bar.
Mkhitaryan attempts to latch on to Blind's long ball over the top, and although it's a good run by the winger it's slightly mistimed with the linesman raising his flag almost immediately.
For the first time in the match City's passing on the edge of the box lets them down as Nolito loses out, giving a free-kick to the home side.
The home side recycle possession and Ibrahimovic has an opening on the edge of the box that is quickly shut by the City defence. The visitors' all-round play has been impressive to start the contest.
United have space to break into on the counter as Pogba does well on the byline to clear his lines. Mkhitaryan raids forward, but slams his cross into Otamendi's body with Ibrahimovic and Rooney in the middle.
Nolito breaks into space down the left and slides a pass into the feet of De Bruyne. The Belgian releases Sterling through the middle, but he cannot pull the trigger as he clatters into Bailly. He gestures for a penalty, but the official waves play on.
First touchline antics from one of the managers with Guardiola holding the ball to stop United attacking quickly, much to the frustration of Rooney who gives him a little nudge. Referee Clattenburg is on the spot to sort the situation out before it escalates any further.
City patiently build from the left with Nolito and Kolarov. The left-back whips a cross with pace to the back post, but Sterling cannot twist to get a header on target. He has been a constant threat from the right wing for Shaw to deal with.
The set-piece is cleared with ease by the visitors, who again try to build their passing rhythm to regain their stranglehold of this contest.
The volume lifts at Old Trafford as Ibrahimovic takes possession just outside the box, but the City defence hold him in check to concede only a corner.
The United fans show their first signs of frustration as Lingard loses possession and then fouls Sagna down the right. City have been dominant thus far and deserve their lead.
K. Iheanacho
Assist
Manchester City
Iheanacho wins the header against Bailly to send his team-mate on his way to goal.
K. De Bruyne
Goal
Manchester City
GOAL!!!! City take the lead through De Bruyne. Not a classic passing move by the visitors as they go route one with Kolarov launching a long pass for Iheanacho. He wins the header allowing the Belgian to raid past Blind with ease before he holds his nerve to slot an effort into the corner.
fernandinho loses out in midfield to Fellaini and he sends United on their way with Ibrahimovic. The Swede drills a strike at goal, only to see his effort blocked by Stones. Mkhitaryan pounces on the rebound, but cannot sort out his feet before Kolarov intervenes.
De Bruyne slides a throughball in between two United defenders for Iheanacho. The striker will have an opening if he can take the ball in stride, but he fails to control under pressure from Valencia and Bailly.
OVER! De Bruyne leaves the set-piece for Kolarov to strike, but the left-back sends his effort over the wall and into the stand behind De Gea's goal.
City win an opportunity to threaten as De Bruyne attempts to latch on to a pass from Silva but gets hauled down by Bailly. The visitors have a free-kick on the left edge of the box, with the Belgian standing over the ball.
CHANCE! City get in behind United by Shaw cuts off Sterling's cross into the box. United break with numbers and Mkhitaryan tees up Pogba from 30 yards. The Frenchman strikes with power, only to fire his effort narrowly over the crossbar.
Shaw is forced into action three times in close succession as City probe away at him with a series of passes into the box. He stands up to the test well, but that will not be the end of the visitors' pressure.
The first corner of the afternoon is poor as Silva's ball fails to beat the first man, allowing the home side to clear.
De Bruyne is active in space inside the left inside channel, forcing Bailly across to cover him. The Belgian is isolated but wins a corner off the United defender courtesy of a clever backheel.
Otamendi sends a incisive pass through the United defence for the run of De Bruyne. The Belgian puts a dangerous ball across the face of goal, but neither Iheanacho or Sterling can convert in the penalty area.
United build with promise through the middle before Rooney sends the ball out wide. Valencia attempts to raid past Nolito, but the Spaniard gets back well to send the ball out for a throw.
We're underway in the Manchester derby.
The players are out on the pitch at Old Trafford, so we should be underway very shortly.
The Spaniard also rotates his full-backs by bringing Bacary Sagna and Aleksandr Kolarov back into the fold, replacing Pablo Zabaleta and Gael Clichy who drop to the bench. As mentioned previously there is no Aguero, with Iheanacho getting the nod to spearhead the attack.
City have made four changes from their win over West Ham, with the first meaningful one coming between the sticks. Claudio Bravo makes his debut following his £17m switch from Barcelona, replacing Caballero. Guardiola made a statement by ousting Hart to opt for a keeper with good distribution skills, today marks the first time we'll set that in action in the Premier League.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan makes his first start of the campaign, replacing Juan Mata alongside Wayne Rooney behind the Swede. Anthony Martial and Rashford are forced to settle for a place on the bench, while Mourinho keeps the same back seven for the third game on the spin.
Mourinho has made two changes to his side that defeated Hull City, but there is no place for Rashford. The striker scored the winning goal in that contest and also netted a hat-trick for the England Under-21s during the week. However, Mourinho has opted to start Jesse Lingard as part of a three-man attack behind Ibrahimovic.
Man City subs: Sane, Navas, Caballero, Fernando, Zabaleta, Aleix Garcia, Clichy.
Man City (4-3-3): Bravo; Sagna, Stones, Otamendi, Kolarov; De Bruyne, Fernandinho, Silva; Nolito, Iheanacho, Sterling.
Man Utd subs: Rashford, Schneiderlin, Romero, Mata, Smalling, Herrera, Martial.
Man Utd (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Valencia, Bailly, Blind, Shaw; Pogba, Fellaini; Lingard, Rooney, Mkhitaryan, Ibrahimovic.
The team news has been announced and we'll start with the home side.
The Red Devils looked to having their first blip of the season against Hull City until the old Fergie time bailed them out at the KCOM Stadium as Marcus Rashford netted in stoppage time to snatch the three points. A good start for Mourinho, but he will know that a long season is ahead to restore United to the top of English football.
Mourinho has settled into life at Old Trafford with relative ease, aided by a strong summer in the transfer window. Zlatan Ibrahimovic has hit the ground running in the Premier League, scoring in his side's victories over Bournemouth and Southampton.
The loss of Aguero is a blemish on a perfect start to the campaign for Guardiola's men. Although their performances have not been perfect they've done enough in each of their three matches to secure the three points. Another win today would be a huge scalp for the Spaniard and his new charges.
Sergio Aguero will miss the match due to his suspension for violent conduct. The FA banned the Argentine retrospectively for his use of an elbow against Winston Reid in his team's 3-1 victory over West Ham United. City will miss his presence leading the line, putting huge pressure on Kelechi Iheanacho his replacement today.
As a result United currently hold the bragging rights, but City will be determined to claim them back this afternoon and make a strong statement in their push for the crown. It will be very difficult for Guardiola's men though, especially without their star man.
City had won three matches on the bounce at Old Trafford, including their 6-1 drubbing of the Red Devils in 2012 before their run was ended the season before last when United recorded a 4-2 win. The contest in the last campaign ended goalless on home soil for the Reds, but they did claim a 1-0 victory at the Etihad.
Since City's takeover the Manchester derby has become a whole different ball game, with the Blues beginning to haul back some of the ground lost in the dominant years of the 90s and early 00s when Sir Alex Ferguson's reigned supreme over them and English football.
There is a lot of history between Mourinho and Guardiola, some of it of a unsavoury nature especially during their time in Spain when they directly faced off in El Clasico at Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively. The touchline at Old Trafford could be a very interesting place this afternoon.
It's too early to suggest that this match will decide the Premier League title race, but it will play a huge role in the outcome given both sides' start to the campaign, both boasting 100% records in the opening three games.
Old foes Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola re-ignite their rivalry this afternoon. The Spaniard holds the edge over the Portuguese in their 16 meetings to date, winning seven of the contests compared to Mourinho's three.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Manchester derby as Manchester United and Manchester City face off at Old Trafford.
