Getafe drop down to seventh after making it back-to-back home defeats for the first time since 2018 and they will need a result at Levante to guarantee Europa League football next season. Atletico move two points clear of fourth-placed Sevilla and host Real Sociedad in the season's final fixture but Simeone will no doubt turn his attentions to their upcoming Champions League tie against RB Leipzig in August.
A game of two halves sees Atletico collect their 12th straight win against Getafe. The hosts should have been at least one ahead at the break through Mata and their high pressing, but they failed to make their chances count and ultimately Simeone's men made them pay. Once again, it was that man Llorente, who broke the deadlock in the second half. Following the opener, Atletico managed the game professionally before Thomas added a second from close range to put the game to bed.
90' + 7' FULL-TIME: GETAFE 0-2 ATLETICO MADRID
90' + 6' Atletico are cruising their way to victory again at El Coliseum. Simeone has one more fixture before the big one against RB Leipzig.
90' + 4' It is nearly three for Atletico! Morata breaks down the left wing before unselfishly playing in Vitolo on the edge of the area. The forward's shot stings the hands of Soria, who turns it around the post. However, none of that will matter as the assistant had his flag up the whole time.
90' + 3' That was needless and out of nowhere from Nyom. Sanchez went to flick a header on, only to be greeted by the full-back's boot in the air. What was he thinking there?
A. Nyom
Red Card
90' + 2' RED CARD! Nyom is given a straight red! Oblak had launched the ball towards Sanchez on the left before Nyom clattered in to the full-back’s head with a high foot. Lahoz deems the challenge was too dangerous for his liking and instantly makes his mind up. Getafe’s defender may get in further trouble after the game as well as he aggressively got in the face of the referee following his decision.
90' + 1' There will be seven minutes of added time.
90' Lemar is slid in by Herrera and tries to cross to Morata. The striker cannot bundle his shot over Soria from the near post and Atletico will have a corner.
89' Lemar spins away inside before finding Vitolo's feet, the forward is then clattered in the back by Cabaco and Atletico have a free-kick around 20 yards out on the right. This is a shooting opportunity and Lemar hovers over it but sends his shot at well.
88' Atletico walk the ball in to the net as Vitolo plays the ball around the goalkeeper for Morata to tap in. Soria had stopped as the flag went up and VAR quickly confirms that Vitolo was initially offside.
87' Oblak comes for the corner but fails to collect, no one is behind him and the ball races out of play. Oblak gets away with one there as he uncharacteristically struggles in the air.
86' Nyom crosses towards the far post but, again, Gimenez is there to deflect the ball away for a Getafe corner.
H. Herrera
Diego Costa
84' Costa is taken off and switched for Herrera. Vitolo will join Morata up front.
T. Lemar
Á. Correa
84' Simeone opts for fresh legs with Lemar replacing Correa, who has been efficient in midfield in this game.
F. Fajr
M. Arambarri
84' Arambarri is replaced by Fajr in midfield.
82' CHANCE! Costa nearly capitalises on a Soria mistake! Morata had tried to slide Costa through, the pass then looked to be intercepted by the keeper but the Spaniard failed to keep hold of the ball and Costa should score from the left-hand side of the area.

Goal
80' GOALLLL!!!! 2-0 ATLETICO! Vitolo is released with a throughball over the halfway line, he seems to hesitate in the box before stabbing a pass towards the penalty spot which Thomas runs on to and slams the ball in to the bottom right corner. Soria managed to get a hand to the shot but Thomas’ effort was far too powerful from close range.
Vitolo
Assist
80' Vitolo assists from the left of the box. After it initially looked like the chance had broken down, the winger pokes the ball to the centre of the box for Thomas to slam home.
80' Morata is demanding a penalty after he is played through and brought down by Nyom but Lahoz is having none of it. Atletico had done well to break Getafe's high press before that and should feel unlucky they have not increased their lead.
79' It is only 1-0 in this game, which is in stark contrast to the reverse fixture which Atletico won 7-0 in December, the biggest win for Los Rojiblancos in the competition in the last 30 years.
Vitolo
Y. Carrasco
77' Vitolo is brought on in place of Carrasco on the left wing.
76' The referee sees the substitution as a perfect time to call for a drinks break. Fifteen minutes of normal time remain and Atletico seem to be heading for yet another win.
Álvaro Morata
Marcos Llorente
75' Llorente, the man who opened the scoring for Atletico, limps off to be replaced by Morata up front.
74' Llorente is limping about and seems to be indiciating that he has had enough and needs to come off of the pitch.
73' WIDE! Getafe curl a corner in from the left and Angel jumps the highest to glance his header towards goal. The header bounces just wide of Oblak's left-hand post and Angel seems to be gesturing to Duro that the winger blocked his vision, ruining his chance from close range.
71' SAVE! Molina releases Angel, who looks to be offside and is pressured by Felipe. He then manages to send a fairly speculative effort towards Oblak's goal, which forces the keeper to dive to his right to parry the shot down before clutching the rebound gratefully.
70' Llorente, again, goes searching down the right wing before attempting a heel chop in to the path of Correa but the Getafe defence keep up and play the ball back to Soria to remove any danger.
69' Arias does well to pressure Angel, who looks to latch on to Jason's flick-on. Oblak will save those sort of chances all day as Angel can only head down the middle of the goal.
69' That was a bad challenge from Molina. He has failed to score in his ten LaLiga appearances against Atletico, more than against any other opponent in the competition.
Jorge Molina
Yellow Card
68' Molina catches Costa late and high on the ankle, rightly earning him a yellow card from Lahoz.
T. Partey
Saúl
67' Saul, who has just been booked, is replaced by Thomas in midfield as Simeone looks to protect their 1-0 lead.
65' Atletico break through Llorente and he finds Correa in the middle. Koke then runs on to a through ball and backheels for Arias, who looks to overplay and the chance for Atletico has gone.
Saúl
Yellow Card
64' Saul is shown a yellow card for his aerial challenge in the middle of the park. That seems a bit harsh on first viewing.
63' It looks like the changes mean Angel will join Molina up front with Duro moving out to the left wing.
Jason
M. Olivera
61' Olivera is changed for Jason, which also signifies a change in personnel for Getafe's midfield as Nyom drops back to right-back.
Jorge Molina
N. Maksimović
61' Maksimovic is swapped out for Molina as Bordalas looks to attack.
Ángel
Jaime Mata
60' Striker Mata, who had two great chances in the first half, is replaced by Angel Rodriguez.
60' It looks like Getafe are lining up a triple change as they look to get back in to this game.
59' Cucurella runs inwards and then switches the play out to Cabaco, who crosses from deep straight out for Atletico goal-kick.
58' Will it be six? Bordalás has lost all of his five previous managerial LaLiga meetings against Atletico, failing to score in the process.
56' Djene goes shoulder to shoulder with Llorente down the left and the Atletico striker falls down under the defender's pressure. Lahoz has a long, hard look at it before deciding it will be a Getafe goal-kick and not a penalty.
Marcos Llorente
Goal
54' GOALLLLL!!! 1-0 ATLETICO and it is that man Llorente of course! Carrasco goes roaming down the left wing and beats a couple of defenders before the ball falls to Llorente, who turns away from Timor and wrong-foots Soria from 20 yards out with a placed shot in to the bottom right corner. VAR has a long look at it but decides there was no infringement in the initial play and the goal stands.
Y. Carrasco
Assist
54' Carrasco goes on a mazy run past a couple of Getafe defenders and then slips a pass in to the feet of Llorente.
52' The referee decides it to be a Getafe free-kick from around 30 yards out, despite being down Duro does not require treatment and Felipe also escapes booking. Timor sends the resulting chance straight in to the hands of Oblak; he was never beating the goalkeeper from that sort of distance.
51' There is a bit of commotion out in the middle of the pitch after Duro is caught in the ribs by Felipe's knee. The challenge itself did not look too cynical as the centre-back leaped in the air for his header, but Getafe feel aggrieved and Lahoz has a decision to make here.
49' It was that man Llorente again, every chance that Atletico have created in this game has come through him. Even if Joao Felix was fit, it is impossible to see Simeone leaving Llorente out of his side nowadays.
48' CHANCE! Arias and Llorente link up wonderfully on the right wing before the right-back sends in an inch perfect cross towards Costa, who somehow misses an open goal from ten yards out. The ball had gone past Soria and the striker has still managed to turn it wide of the goal. A chance goes a miss for Atletico there.
48' If Atletico score first, it is hard to see them not winning this game. Only Real Madrid (24) have opened the scoring in more LaLiga games this season without losing any of those matches than Atletico (G19 - W14 D5).
46' Atletico are immediately on the attack after the restart, with Saul pressuring Maksimovic in to giving away a corner. Carrasco's cross is headed down by Costa but only straight in to the arms of goalkeeper Soria.
46' The players are back out, Lahoz blows his whistle and we are back underway at El Coliseum!
If Getafe continue to press high chances will come but they also run the risk of tiring in the later stages of the game. They do, however, need a result here to reaffirm their Europa League spot. Simeone will also be asking for more from his men in the second half but may already have half an eye on their Champions League fixture with RB Leipzig in August.
An excellent opening 45 minutes from the hosts probably means they should be ahead at the break, especially when considering the two early chances Mata had from close range. Atletico have grown in to the game but have failed to create any real chances of note, meaning Bordalas will most definitely be the happier of the two managers at half-time.
45' + 4' HALF-TIME: GETAFE 0-0 ATLETICO MADRID
Yellow Card
45' + 3' Gimenez is booked for a cynical foul on Duro near the halfway line, which stopped Getafe from counter-attacking. A classic tactical foul from Simeone's central defender.
45' + 3' A lovely flick by Mata plays in Duro, who is chopped down by Gimenez to earn Getafe another chance to cross from deep.
45' + 2' Getafe again press extremely high up the pitch, which forces Oblak to send his goal-kick long and Getafe, once again, retain possession.
45' + 1' A lot of space opens up for Carrasco to run in to, yet the winger opts to play a first time pass which goes out for a Getafe throw. The Belgian looks incredibly frustrated with himself there.
45' There will be four minutes of added time in the first half, largely due to the early injury to Maksimovic.
44' Arias lines up a hopeful shot from well outside the area, which is blocked and falls to Carrasco, who unleashes an even more hopeful shot from further out. That is not going to trouble Soria in the Getafe net.
43' Nyom races past Sanchez on the right and produces a good cross towards the back post, which Arias heads away. Cucurella then has a chance with his left foot from the edge of the area but it comes to nothing as he fires over the bar.
42' Timor receives a short goal-kick, which Correa instantly rushes up to pressurise and the defender has to play a pass back to Soria to launch forward.
40' Arias sends a throw-in down the line, Costa does well to protect possession with Getafe players surrounding him. Atletico then work the ball well to Carrasco on the left wing but Nyom deals with the threat, earning Getafe a goal-kick in the process.
38' Saul's handball gifts Getafe a free-kick on the right wing. Cucurella's delivery has been good so far and he produces yet another wonderful cross. A last ditch clearance by Gimenez removes the danger, with Mata stood behind the defender ready to pounce from around eight yards out.
36' Carrasco goes down under the pressure of Cabaco in the box. Simeone waves his arms on the touchline but his winger barely appeals, referee Lahoz rightly deems it to not be a penalty.
35' Koke almost plays in Duro on the halfway line with a weak header backwards. Felipe steps in before the striker can capitalise on the chance to break.
33' Llorente dances round Timor and reaches the byline, he looks to cut the ball back to Costa on the penalty spot but his strike partner can only scuff his shot straight in to the Getafe defence.
31' Thirty minutes have been played at El Coliseum which means the players will have a drinks break. It has been all Getafe so far but Atletico are slowly working their way back in to it.
29' Getafe have the ball over the line after Mata taps in Duro's cross at the back post but the assistant has his flag up. VAR quickly checks this and confirms the striker was marginally offside. Again, so close for Getafe.
28' Twice Atletico have attempted to release Carrasco in the last two minutes and both times the passes have been overhit and Getafe retain possession.
26' Cucurella floats in a free-kick heading for the back post and Gimenez turns it away for another Getafe corner. Atletico again remain firm in their defence from the corner and head Cucurella's corner away.
24' Maksimovic plays a free-kick short to Timor, the defender then suprisingly strikes a wicked left-footed shot from all of 40 yards out, which Oblak parries away for a corner.
23' JUST WIDE! Koke produces a lovely turn and then finds Llorente, the striker then produces a curling cross for his strike partner, Costa, but he can only head over the bar from eight yards out. Cabaco did enough there just to give Costa a nudge and make the chance slightly more uncomfortable.
21' Mata will surely feel he should have given Getafe the lead. He has scored three of their last five goals at home in LaLiga; prior to this the striker had only scored one goal at El Coliseum this season.
20' Carrasco sends a diagonal switch towards Arias and the full-back has a lot of room on the right but no forward passing options, which forces him to play backwards.
18' After three quick chances for Getafe the game has settled down and Atletico, sensibly, seem more reluctant to play out from the back for the moment.
16' Getafe lost their last LaLiga home game, 1-3 against Villarreal, they have not lost back-to-back matches at El Coliseum in the competition since 2018.
14' What a start for Getafe, they are relentlessly pressing high up the pitch and refusing to give Atletico any thinking time on the ball. This is brave from a side that has only won one of their last six home games, however, it is paying off and the hosts should be ahead.
12' CHANCE! Three chances in quick succession for Getafe! How have they not taken the lead yet? Their free-kick from the left fires through a crowd of players after Nyom's flick-on and Mata has to do better from two yards out but somehow manages to turn his shot back away from goal. Replays show that if that had gone in Mata may have been offside anyway.
10' GOAL LINE CLEARANCE! Getafe continue to press high from Atletico's goal-kick and they are nearly rewarded! The Atletico full-back gifts possession to Mata, who squeezes the ball under Oblak from close range but Felipe is there to clear the ball off of the line and save the day. So close for Mata and Getafe.
9' JUST OVER! Atletico carelessly give away possession and Maksimovic goes storming in to the box, his pass finds Cucurella, who can only poke the ball to Mata but he fires his chance well over the bar.
9' Cabaco sends a ball long but it goes well over the top of Duro and Oblak retrieves the wayward pass before trying to launch a long pass to Costa.
7' It has been a fairly slow start here with neither side really getting in to it. It is important to note however, that Simeone has won 13 out of his 14 managerial LaLiga meetings against Getafe (D1), more than against any opponent in the competition.
5' Correa roles in Llorente, who races away from Timor before crossing but Djene does well to chest the ball out of play, meaning Atletico have the first corner of the game.
5' After some lengthy treatment, Maksimovic returns to the pitch following his head injury.
4' Play has restarted and Carrasco sends the free-kick straight in to the wall and Atletico will have to recycle possession on the right-hand side.
2' In the process of being fouled Costa has also brought down Maksimovic, who is clutching his head. Replays show the injury is from an earlier incident and the physios are on to treat him.
2' An early foul by Maksimovic sees Atletico earn a free-kick deep in their own half, which Oblak will launch forward. Oblak's long pass sees Costa fouled off the ball and Atletico will have another chance to cross from around 30 yards out.
1' Referee Mateu Lahoz blows his whistle and we are underway at El Coliseum!
The players are making their way on to the Coliseum Alfonso Perez pitch and play will shortly be underway.
It is hard to look past Atletico in this game, they are unbeaten in their last 14 LaLiga matches against Getafe (W13 D1), without conceding a single goal.
Diego Simeone makes six changes to the side that overcame Real Betis, opting to go with a completely different back four to their last fixture. The changes are somewhat enforced with Trippier nursing an injury and Mario Hermoso out suspended, while Lodi and Savic are the other two defenders rested. Costa, who grabbed a late winner against Betis, and Carrasco both earn recalls as well.
Jose Bordalas brings Nyom back after missing out through suspension against Alaves, he will step in for Jason on the right side for Getafe. The hosts' other change sees Duro preferred to partner Mata, instead of Molina. They are are also without Xabier Etxeita due to suspension.
SUBS: Renan Lodi, Thomas Lemar, Vitolo, Thomas Partey, Ivan Saponjic, Alvaro Morata, Rodrigo Riquelme, Hector Herrera, Antonio Adan, Stefan Savic.
