Commentary

That's all from us tonight!
Palace take Villa's place as tenth in the table before they travel to Manchester City next week, while Gerrard's side drop to 14th and have much to improve on before they host West Ham.
Aston Villa started on the front foot, scoring an early goal through Watkins but it was all down hill from there. Crystal Palace were dominant in every single area of the pitch and with their talisman Zaha scoring a brace, it looked to be a sure win. They finished it off with a third goal from Mateta moments after he came on, securing Palace's first three points of the season.
90' + 4' FULL-TIME: CRYSTAL PALACE 3-1 ASTON VILLA
90' + 4' COUTINHO LETS IT FLY! In the dying moments, he shoots from near the half-way line. It's on target, but it's an easy save!
C. Richards
E. Eze
90' + 1' Eze, who had a fantastic performance, is replaced by Richards.
90' + 1' VILLA ARE SHOCKING AT THE BACK! Hughes is in acres of space and there is no communication between the back line as he gets in behind and takes the shot. Martinez makes the save and starts screaming at his teammates right after.
90' Villa have been pushing these final moments, but nothing to show for it.
85' Good skill from Coutinho as he keeps the ball up in the box and he goes for goal but Guaita catches the Brazilian's effort from the tight angle.
W. Hughes
J. Schlupp
82' Schlupp's night is also over, as he's replaced by Hughes.
L. Milivojević
W. Zaha
82' Huge ovation for Zaha as he comes off for Milivojevic.
80' Zaha has scored 11 Premier League goals in 2022, with only Spurs duo Son Heung-min and Harry Kane (15 each) scoring more than the Ivorian in the competition this calendar year.
79' Coutinho takes Villa's second corner of the game but Andersen flicks it away. It goes back into the box and Konsa's header goes wide. He should do better to get that on target.
J. Schlupp
Yellow Card
75' Schlupp gets booked for a foul on Kamara
Philippe Coutinho
E. Buendía
73' Gerrard brings on Coutinho for Buendia, with the hopes that the Brazilian can produce some magic in the final minutes of the game.
Douglas Luiz
J. McGinn
73' McGinn, who is lucky to still be on the pitch, comes off for Douglas Luiz.
T. Mitchell
Assist
71' Mitchell's cross was inch perfect, right into the box for an outstretched Mateta.
J. Mateta
Goal
71' GOOOOOOOAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL!!!!!! TALK ABOUT INSTANT IMPACT! IT'S THREE FOR PALACE! They win the ball back in midfield and Mitchell and Zaha combine on the left flank. Mitchell puts in a cross for Mateta who pokes him the goal less than two minutes after coming on.

J. Mateta
O. Édouard
70' Mateta comes on for Edouard.
69' Zaha and Eze combine for a quick one-two on the left hand side. Eze gets the ball back, runs right across the edge of the box and shoots, but it's blocked by Digne.
D. Ings
L. Bailey
66' Ings, who scored in Villa's last match against Everton, comes on for Bailey.
65' McGinn comits a foul on Zaha. It is very similar to the one he got booked for earlier in the match, but he somehow gets away with it this time around.
63' Ings may be looking to come on for Villa here. Since the start of the 2019-20 campaign, he has scored the first goal in more different Premier League games than any other player (20). He won't do that tonight, but let's see if Ings can make a difference.
W. Zaha
Goal
58' GOALLLLL!!!! ZAHA MISSES THE PEN BUT STILL SCORES AND IT'S 2-1 FOR PALACE! It was a good save by Martines, but Zaha manages to score nontheless as he stares the keeper down before celebrating with his teammates. He's now on a hat-trick!
E. Martínez
Penalty Save
58' Martinez with a fantastic initial save, but he can't manage to save the secnd shot as Zaha stares him down after he scores the rebound. Zaha goes to shake his hand after so there is no real animosity.
W. Zaha
Penalty Miss
58' IT'S TWO FOR PALACE! Zaha's powerful shot is saved initially but Zaha scores the rebound!
57' PENALTY HAS BEEN GIVEN! Digne's arm is blatantly away from his body when the ball touches it. Zaha steps up to take the pen!
55' We have a lengthy VAR check here. Digne's arm is so high up from his body as he's jumping up to defend a corner routine. The referee has gone to take a look at the monitor.
53' PALACE WITH THE SHOT! Villa are all over the place in the back and it's just too easy for Ayew to cut back and find Edouard. The striker shoots it wide but he has to do better from there and take that chance!
51' Moments after Bailey's shot Palace is on the break through Edouard, but he's forced wide.
51' OFF THE BAR!!!! THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN SOME GOAL!! Ramsey makes a great play and finds Bailey who cuts inside and crashes his shot against the bar! WOW! That could have been a goal of the season contender had it gone in.
49' Villa are trying to play out from the back but Palace is pressing them hard. So much so that Martinez kicks the ball straight out for a throw-in.
48' Ayew gets infront of Digne far too easily in the box and the Palace player gets a shot on goal, but Martinez makes the save with his leg.
46' And we're back underway here at Selhurst Park!
As it stands, Palace are 15th in the table as they have yet to register a win this season. Villa are right in the middle of the table, sitting in 10th, though with several other matches going on today, things can change fairly quickly.
Villa came out fast and scored the opener within five minutes through Watkins. From there, it was all Palace though, with Zaha responding moments later with a goal of his own. It looked like Palace had doubled their lead about twenty minutes later through Schlupp, but VAR intervened as their was a slight offside in the buildup.
45' + 3' HALF-TIME: CRYSTAL PALACE 1-1 ASTON VILLA
45' Villa have been extremely poor defensively for most of this half and Patrick Vieira must be wondering how his side isn't ahead.
44' GREAT SAVE ON THE OTHER END! Buendia strikes it HARD towards the Palace goal and Guaita is able to make the save to keep his side in it.
42' WHAT A CHANCE! WHAT A SAVE! WOW!! Zaha causing problems again, and he has great vision to cutback and spot Ayew, who is in an alarming amount of space. He takes a shot and somehow, someway, Martinez makes the save with his fingertips.
W. Zaha

35' Cash bombs on the right hand side, getting past Zaha but Mitchell blocks his cross.
33' SO CLOSE! What a delivery from Ward! It's a cross straight into the box and Edouard stretches as far as he can to get to it, but he just misses.
28' There was a penalty shout for Palace as Zaha was fouled in the box, but the referee waved on and it seems that the VAR agreed with the no call.
26' THE GOAL HAS BEEN DISALLOWED! It's tight but it Edouard was offside in the build-up! It remains 1-1!
26' GOOOOOOOAALLLLLLL! IT'S 2-1 FOR PALACE! So poor from Villa as Schlupp receives the ball in the middle of the box and smashes it home!
25' The Palace free-kick gets retaken as Guehi's shirt gets pulled by Digne.
23' Cash fouls Zaha and the Palace player goes down for a bit. Cash gets a talking to from the ref, but he isn't booked and play continues.
22' Brilliant from Zaha! He niggles away from two players, breezes past Ramsey and gets a shot in, but it's wide.
18' The ref calls for a foul by Watkins on Guehi. It's a high elbow, but Guehi's reaction was incredibly delayed as he fell to the floor.
15' Following a 2-1 away win at Crystal Palace last season, Aston Villa are looking to win consecutive away league matches against the Eagles for the first time.
11' Digne takes a shot from inside the box and it's just wide! It is end to end stuff here at Selhurst Park.
O. Édouard
Assist
7' Edouard registers the assist, and it was a good pass, but that goal was all Zaha!
W. Zaha
Goal
7' GOOOOOOOOOOALLLLLLLLLLL!!!! IT'S 1-1 ALREADY! What a response from Palace! Zaha sprints upfield beyond the Villa backline and slides a shot into the far corner. He's perfected that finish and he's a man in fantastic form!
L. Bailey
Assist
5' It's a great assist from Bailey who flicks the header straight to the path of his teammate.
O. Watkins
Goal
5' GOAAAAAAAAAAAAAL!!! IT'S 0-1 FOR VILLA! A dream start for the visitors as Mings zips the ball upfield and Bailey's pass is defence splitting for Watkins, who is able to hit it with so much power to score the opener.
3' Villa give the ball away so cheaply in their own half, and they are lucky Ayew doesn't make the most of it as he runs toward goal but fails to control the ball properly.
1' Villa get the ball rolling and we're off!
The players are making their way onto the pitch, as we are minutes away from kick-off!
