Commentary

That concludes our commentary of the LaLiga fixture between Atletico Madrid and Celta Vigo! We hope you’ve enjoyed it!
Atletico Madrid travel to play Bayer Leverkusen in Tuesday’s Champions League action, ahead of a home fixture against Real Madrid next Sunday. Celta Vigo have seven days before their next match, away against Valencia.
Atletico Madrid ran riot in the second half, racking up three goals en-route to a comfortable 4-1 victory over Celta Vigo. Correa’s early strike was met after the restart by De Paul’s deflected strike from distance and Carrasco’s wonderful solo effort - both within 20 minutes of the restart. A Celta Vigo goal from the second-phase of a corner-kick looked to be promising for the visitors heading into the final quarter-hour but Cunha’s mazy run and finish - credited as a Nunez own goal - put the result beyond doubt and gave the Colchoneros their joint-largest win of the season. The result puts Simeone’s side up into fourth place, while Celta Vigo drop into 10th.

90' + 3' Cervi manages to dribble between Hermoso and Witsel before delivering a cross to the penalty spot but Larsen is unable to get on the end of it as Atleti pack the penalty area to see out the game.
90' + 1' Atletico Madrid have lost just one of their last eight home games in LaLiga (W5 D2), 0-2 to Villarreal in their last meeting at the Civitas Metropolitano. Colchoneros have not lost consecutive home games in the competition since May 2013, at the Vicente Calderon.
89' The fourth official indicates four minutes will be added to the end of the match for stoppages.
87' A cynical kick-out from Cunha ends an Atletico Madrid attack and gives Celta Vigo a free-kick just outside their penalty area.

Atlético Madrid
85' Saul comes on for Carrasco with five minutes left to go in the contest.
84' Atleti look to be preparing a change in the aftermath of the goal, with the result secure at this point in proceedings.
Unai Núñez
Own Goal
Celta de Vigo
82' ATLETICO MADRID GRAB ANOTHER! 4-1! Cunha picks up possession of the ball in his own half and manages to sprint the length of the pitch towards Marchesin’s penalty area, putting it around Nunez and beating him for pace before tucking a shot off the defender’s shins that rolls past the goalkeeper and in! It’s an unfortunate own goal for the centre-back, who has not had his best outing.
82' Galan puts a dangerous cross into the penalty area looking for the imposing Larsen but Witsel is again first to the ball in the air, clearing it temporarily.
80' With 10 minutes to go it doesn't appear as though the visitors will have what it takes to overturn the deficit, with the Galicians managing just one shot on target in the second half; the goal.
78' Aspas has scored five goals in four games in LaLiga 22/23. If he scores at the Civitas Metropolitano, the Moana native will become only the second Spanish player to score six goals after the first five games of a season in the competition in the 21st century, after David Villa, who did it in the 08/09 and 09/10 campaigns.
Matheus Cunha
R. De Paul
Atlético Madrid
75' Cunha comes on for De Paul with just under 15 minutes left.
75' Cervi’s corner is this time cleared away decisively by Atletico Madrid, with Witsel first getting a head to it.
73' The referee again blows his whistle and gives both sides a chance to rehydrate with a coolling break.
Iago Aspas
Assist
Celta de Vigo
71' Aspas is once again decisive for Celta Vigo, with his pass the assist for Veiga's goal.
Gabri Veiga
Goal
Celta de Vigo
71' CELTA VIGO MAKE IT 3-1! Atletico Madrid fail to clear a Celta corner-kick, with Aspas able to pick up possession and play it through the lines for Veiga. The substitute swivels and hits a first-time shot that manages to squeeze in-between the goalkeeper and the near post!
70' Carrasco takes up a similar position to his earlier goal but this time his shot is wayward, with two defenders quickly closing down the space.
68' Griezmann has scored 99 goals for Atletico Madrid in LaLiga and could become the sixth player to reach 100 goals in club's history in the competition, after Adrian Escudero (150), Luis Aragones (123), Francisco Campos (120) Jose Eulogio Garate (109) and Fernando Torres (102).
G. Kondogbia
Assist
Atlético Madrid
66' The goal was sparked by a lovely switch of play by Kondogbia following a throw-in, with the central midfielder registering the assist on Atleti's third.
Y. Carrasco
Goal
Atlético Madrid
66' 3-0 ATLETICO! WHAT A STRIKE! The wing-back sprints the entire length of Celta Vigo’s half and gets into the penalty area, slaloming inside and out to earn room ahead of Mallo before slotting a shot that beats the goalkeeper at his near post!
A. Solari
R. Tapia
Celta de Vigo
63' A change in midfield for Celta Vigo sees Tapia withdrawn for Solari.
A. Griezmann
Álvaro Morata
Atlético Madrid
63' Griezmann makes his weekly appearance just after the hour mark, replacing Morata, whose match ends goalless.
João Félix
Á. Correa
Atlético Madrid
63' Felix comes on for Correa in one of two changes just after the hour for Atleti.
61' A drop of the shoulder gets Morata into Celta Vigo’s half with only one defender to beat but Nunez is able to charge back and close down the angle, forcing a poor pass from the Atleti striker that lands in the hands of Marchesin.
59' Aidoo plays a forward pass to Aspas 20 yards from goal but the striker is unable to execute a first-time chip to get the ball into the penalty area for Veiga, instead putting it out for a goal-kick.
Koke
Yellow Card
Atlético Madrid
56' Koke's crunching tackle on Cervi earns the substitute a yellow card.
56' Carrasco’s free-kick is initially cleared by Tapia but a scramble in the penalty area leads to a chance for Witsel, whose shot is blocked bravely by Larsen.
54' Atletico Madrid’s press succeeds in winning the ball back after Reinildo catches Mallo in possession but the defender is immediately tugged back, giving away a free-kick on the left wing.
Gabri Veiga
Carles Pérez
Celta de Vigo
52' Veiga comes on for Perez immediately after conceding the second goal.
Koke
Assist
Atlético Madrid
50' Koke makes an impact four minutes after coming on, teeing up an assist for De Paul.
R. De Paul
Goal
Atlético Madrid
50' ATLETICO MADRID DOUBLE THE LEAD! 2-0! Carrasco finds a pocket of space down the left and chips the ball into the penalty area for Koke, who lays it off to the approaching De Paul. The Argentina international curls a low shot from 20 yards out that takes a deflection and leaves Marchesin powerless!
48' Molina gets forward after a good leading pass from Koke but the wing-back opts to turn around and pass back into his defence, forcing his defence forward and keeping the attacking move going.
46' Celta Vigo get the match restarted from the kick-off!
Koke
T. Lemar
Atlético Madrid
46' Koke comes on for Lemar in a half-time switch for Atletico.
Simeone seems to understand from the touchline that his side are having difficulty keeping hold of possession, which may provoke the coach into attacking changes in order to get a second goal to end the match as a contest. With both Felix and Griezmann as well as Koke on the bench there’s little doubt the hosts will make changes at the top of the pitch. Celta have nothing to lose already behind by a goal and will look to continue to open up and hit on the counter with pace, with Veiga and Solari waiting for their chance from the bench.
A tight and cagey first half at the Civitas Metropolitano comes to a close with the hosts ahead by a single goal to nil, with Correa’s first-time finish after just six minutes the only difference between the two sides. Atleti looked to settle the game down after taking the lead but an inability to keep the ball allowed Tapia to steal in on a number of occasions and rob possession before creating a chance for either Aspas or Larsen; with the former hitting the woodwork shortly after his side went behind. With most of the match played in the midfield-third it’s been a game of relatively low gilt-edged opportunities, with the more clinical team likely to take the three points.
45' + 3' HALF-TIME: ATLETICO MADRID 1-0 CELTA VIGO.
45' + 2' Celta Vigo have one last chance to test Grbic from a corner-kick but it’s eventually looped over the crossbar and behind for a goal-kick.
45' The fourth official indicates three minutes will be added to the end of the half for stoppages.
43' Cervi’s corner from the left is hit towards the penalty spot but it manages to evade everybody in the penalty area and roll out for a throw on the other side.
41' Mallo clips a cross towards the penalty area after a sustained period of pressure from Celta Vigo but the poor delivery only manages to reach Kondogbia on the 18-yard line, with the midfielder whacking the ball away at the first time of asking.
39' Aspas looks to play a one-two with Perez and burst past Hermoso into the penalty area but the booked centre-back manages to get a toe to the ball to poke it back to Grbic.
37' Kondogbia gives the ball away cheaply in midfield, but the visitors are unable to capitalise as Larsen’s curling shot fails to bend back towards goal as it sails wide.
35' With 10 minutes to go Atletico Madrid are looking to hold onto possession and calm the game down, with Celta Vigo looking to hit on the counter down the flanks and with long passes launched from defence. It's been a very tight match in the opening half hour with only Correa's clinical finish separating the two.
33' Cervi manages to win an inch of room ahead of Molina but his rushed cross fails to trouble the Atleti defence, with Grbic claiming the ball in the air confidently.
31' Atletico Madrid have won just four of their last eight games against Celta Vigo in LaLiga (D3 L1), having won their previous six meetings with the Galicians in the competition.
29' A delightful one-two move inside the penalty area between Correa and Morata - capped with a backheel overhead flick - leads to a chance for the Spain international striker but his shot fails to turn towards Marchesin as it careens across the face of goal and out for a throw.
27' The referee blows his whistle and points to the touchline, with both teams receiving a brief cooling break, from which the coaches will be able to transfer a bit of information.
25' Correa pokes a pass into the penalty area for Morata, who takes a touch to put himself wide of the goal under heavy marking from Aidoo. The shot comes in eventually from the Spain international, who can only manage to hit the side netting with Marchesin covering his near post.
23' Lemar’s outswinging corner is met by Aspas at the near post, with the Atletico Madrid midfielder looking for the run of Witsel.
Unai Núñez
Yellow Card
Celta de Vigo
21' Nunez slides through Morata with a raised foot near the halfway line, prompting the referee to brandish the yellow card.
19' Mallo sends a cross in from the right after a period of Celta Vigo possession, but the deflected effort falls to the head of Witsel, who powers it away easily.
17' Aspas himself takes the free-kick but Reinildo throws himself at the effort, blocking it up and over the crossbar for a corner-kick.
Hermoso
Yellow Card
Atlético Madrid
16' A desperate sliding challenge from Hermoso catches the ankle of Aspas on the right wing, giving Celta Vigo a free-kick in an attacking position and earning the centre-back a yellow card.
15' Celta Vigo are finding it increasingly difficult playing out from the back in the face of Atletico’s intense press, with the number of turnovers around the centre-circle adding up for the visitors. They’ve had success when playing it long for their strikers but they’ve rarely made it up the pitch.
13' Cervi manages to send a curling pass around Molina and down the channel for Larsen, but a poor first touch takes it away from the striker and behind for a goal-kick.
11' CHANCE! A misplaced Hermoso pass to Kondogbia allows Tapia to intercept, before finding Aspas on the edge of the penalty area. The striker takes a touch to set himself before hammering a shot that crashes off the post and out!
Á. Correa
Goal
Atlético Madrid
9' ATLETICO TAKE THE LEAD! 1-0! The hosts capitalise on a well-worked move that sees the ball progress from left wing to right before De Paul is able to slip a pass into the penalty area for Correa, who finishes with a lovely first-time hit!
R. De Paul
Assist
Atlético Madrid
9' De Paul's clever pass for his international team-mate is the assist for Atletico Madrid's opening goal!
8' Carrasco again cuts inside from the left looking to trouble Marchesin but a very narrow Perez storms out to meet the wing-back and blocks the shot.
6' Atletico fail to make their set-piece count, with a short-corner routine to Carrasco failing to trouble the packed Celta Vigo penalty area as Tapia manages to poke the ball away and force the hosts back.
4' WHAT A STOP! Celta’s corner-kick from the left flag finds the charging head of Mallo, who stoops his head low to drive the ball towards goal but an alert Grbic manages to parry the ball on the line, keeping the score level!
2' De Paul drives forward on an early attack, finding Carrasco on the left edge of the penalty area. The wing-back cuts inside in trademark style and hits a low shot into the awaiting arms of Marchesin.
1' Atletico Madrid get the match underway from the kick-off!
Celta Vigo make just one enforced change from the line-up that beat Cadiz 3-0 last Friday, with an injury to Oscar Rodriguez presenting an opportunity to Larsen.
Atletico Madrid make six changes to the XI that earned a 1-1 draw with Real Sociedad last weekend. A thigh injury to Jan Oblak sees Grbic make just his second appearance between the posts for the Colchoneros, while a fitness problem for Jose Gimenez allows Hermoso to start in defence. Molina replaces Llorente at right wing-back and both Lemar and Kongobia are chosen ahead of Saul and Koke. The final swap is in attack where Correa replaces Felix.
CELTA VIGO SUBS: Miguel Rodriguez, Ivan Villar, Kevin Vazquez, Gabriel Veiga, Carlos Dominguez, Augusto Solari, Oscar Mingueza, Francisco Lopez, Luca De La Torre, Williot Swedberg.
CELTA VIGO XI (4-4-2): Agustin Marchesin; Javi Galan, Unai Nunez, Joseph Aidoo, Hugo Mallo; Franco Cervi, Fran Beltran, Renato Tapia, Carles Perez; Jorgen Strand Larsen, Iago Aspas.
ATLETICO SUBS: Alejandro Iturbe, Saul Niguez, Felipe, Marcos Llorente, Joao Felix, Matheus Cunha, Antoine Griezmann, Koke, Marco Moreno, Antonio Gomis.

With 15 minutes to go before kick-off, let's take a look at how the two sides are lining up - starting with our hosts!
A rocky start to the season saw Celta Vigo get just a draw from their opening two fixtures - both at home. Results have been much better recently for Eduardo Coudet, whose side has put together back-to-back victories in LaLiga for the first time since December 2021 and January 2022 after seeing off both Girona and Cadiz.
Seven points from four matches has Atletico Madrid in seventh place - level with today’s opponents, Celta Vigo. Winners in their midweek Champions League tie against Porto, Diego Simeone’s side have only one victory in their last three domestic games; a run of form that sees them outside the European places.
