Villa are next in action in the Premier League on the road to Liverpool on Saturday. Fulham host Wolves in their next outing on Friday.
Aston Villa mounted a comeback late in the second half to defeat Fulham 3-1 at Villa Park in their Premier League clash. The Cottagers took the lead after Aleksandar Mitrovic capitalised on a mistake by Tyrone Mings. However, the home side responded through substitute Trezeguet. He placed a left-footed strike into the bottom corner to level the scores before converting Keinan Davis' perfect cross from the right flank. Ollie Watkins secured the three points with a tap-in from Bertrand Traore's delivery from the right. Villa earn their first win in five matches, while Fulham suffer a damaging defeat in their bid for survival.
90' + 4' FULL-TIME: ASTON VILLA 3-1 FULHAM
90' + 2' Onomah latches on to a loose ball on the edge of the box and goes for the drive, but it is deflected into the hands of Martinez.
90' There will be four minutes of added time.
89' Trezeguet is only the third Aston Villa substitute to score twice in a single Premier League match, after Julian Joachim v Derby in September 2000 and Dwight Yorke v Liverpool in May 1994.
Bertrand Traoré
Assist
87' Traore surges down the right flank and creates space for a low cross that Watkins converts with ease.
O. Watkins
Goal
87' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL WATKINS SCORES FROM CLOSE RANGE!!!!! 3-1 VILLA!!!!! The home side are clinical to surely secure the three points. Watkins is on the spot in the six yard box to tap home. Traore is the architect with a probing run down the right flank. He sends a precise cross into the middle for Watkins to bury into an empty net. All too easy for the home side.
86' If Fulham are unable to mount a late comeback, this result could well be extremely damaging for their hopes of remaining in the Premier League. They were outside the relegation zone after Mitrovic put them ahead, but Trezeguet's brace has sent them back down into the bottom three.
85' Trezeguet has scored his first Premier League goals of the season; before his strikes against Fulham, he had attempted more shots without scoring than any other player in the 2020-21 competition (29).
J. Onomah
M. Lemina
83' Onomah come on for the visitors in the middle of the park to replace Lemina.
J. Maja
R. Loftus-Cheek
83' Loftus-Cheek is withdrawn in the final third for Maja.
K. Davis

Trézéguet
Goal
81' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!! TREZEGUET PUTS VILLA AHEAD!!!!!! 2-1!!!! The winger notches his second off the bench, converting a cross from Davis at the back post. Adarabioyo makes a huge mistake under pressure from Davis and loses possession. The forward surges down the right flank and delivers a perfect ball to the back post. Trezeguet meets it first time and dispatches a low strike into the bottom-left corner. Fulham implode at the back.
80' CLOSE! Trezeguet latches on to a knockdown from Mings in the right inside channel. He goes for the blast, but he sends his effort wide of the right post.
T. Mings
Assist
78' Mings makes a good forward run down the left flank and he cuts a low ball back for Trezeguet to place home.
Trézéguet
Goal
78' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!! TREZEGUET LEVELS WITH A PRECISE STRIKE!!!! 1-1!!!! Villa are back in the game as the substitute converts a cutback from Mings. Targett starts the move as he sends Mings down the left flank. The defender works a cross back into the middle. Trezeguet is unmarked and he strikes a left-footed effort into the bottom-left corner, leaving Areola with no chance.
76' CHANCE! Traore runs down the right flank before cutting back on to his left foot. He angles a cross to the back post, but Trezeguet can only send his diving header wide of the right post.
75' SAVE! Traore cuts in from the right flank and shoots on his left foot from 25 yards, but his effort is comfortably saved by Areola.
J. Ramsey
Douglas Luiz
74' Douglas Luiz is withdrawn for the home side in the middle of the park. Ramsey replaces the Brazilian.
B. De Cordova-Reid
Yellow Card
74' Decordova-Reid catches McGinn with a late challenge and goes into the book.
72' Douglas Luiz loses possession and it allows Cavaleiro to strike. His effort is blocked by Konsa before Fulham recycle possession. Reed attempts a curling effort that travels wide of the right post.
71' Mitrovic latches on to an offload down the left from Cavaleiro, but his cutback towards Decordova-Reid in the box is cleared by Targett. He had to make that intervention.
69' Cavaleiro twists down the left flank to attempt to get the better of Konsa. He offloads towards Loftus-Cheek, but his cross towards Decordova-Reid is cleared by Targett.
K. Davis
M. Sanson
67' Davis is on for the home side in the final third to replace Sanson.
67' Targett gets down the left flank and whips a dangerous ball into the box. Watkins fails to connect with his header properly, glancing his effort wide of the right post. However, the forward is offside anyway.
65' Traore twists and turns and tries to draw a foul from Aina, but the referee does not blow his whistle. The winger is then penalised for obstruction. Villa have to keep their composure.
64' Mitrovic has scored for the first time in 22 PL appearances, having gone 45 shots without scoring in the competition.
Trézéguet
A. El Ghazi
62' Trezeguet comes on for El Ghazi in the final third for the home side.
A. Mitrović
Goal
61' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!! MITROVIC CAPITALISES ON A HORRENDOUS ERROR FROM MINGS!!!! 1-0 FULHAM!!!! Mitrovic notches a simple strike after latching on to a miscued backpass from Mings. The Villa defender scuffs his offload back to Martinez and the Serb pounces. He collects and rounds the keeper before slotting a left-footed strike into an empty net. What an important moment that could be in Fulham's season.
58' Cash does well on the edge of his box to fend off a challenge from Decordova-Reid before winning a free-kick for the home side.
57' Both sides are struggling for quality in the final third this afternoon. It may take a moment of magic or a mistake to break the deadlock.
55' Mitrovic turns away from his man in the left inside channel and angles his strike on his right foot towards goal, but it travels well wide of the right post. The Serb is offside anyway after straying beyond the last defender from Loftus-Cheek's layoff.
53' Decordova-Reid has space and time 25 yards from goal, but he sends his blast straight into the hands of Martinez.
51' Not good news for Fulham. The departed Lookman has the most goal involvements of any Fulham player in the PL this season (four goals, four assists). Another player must rise to the occasion today.
49' Tete floats a cross into the box from the right flank, but Mitrovic can only head a tame effort straight at Martinez.
47' Villa haven't had a shot on target in the first half of any of their last four home league games.
Ivan Cavaleiro
A. Lookman
47' Lookman is replaced by Cavaleiro on the left flank for the visitors.
46' Lookman goes down after being challenged down the left flank. He may have to make way here.
46' We're back underway at Villa Park.
The Cottagers have shown glimpses in the final third. Mitrovic enjoyed a bright start to the game, but faded as the half wore on. Scott Park and his team need to configure a way to get a goal to give themselves a massive win on the road.
Fulham survive a penalty scare to enter the break goalless in their Premier League clash against Aston Villa. Both sides have been fairly underwhelming in the final third. Aleksandar Mitrovic forced Emiliano Martinez into a couple of solid stops, but other than that the visitors have been quiet. Villa are lacking a creative spark, and are struggling to bring Ollie Watkins into the contest. Both teams need to up the ante.
45' + 5' HALF-TIME: ASTON VILLA 0-0 FULHAM
45' + 3' VAR! NO PENALTY! VAR tells referee Madley to look at the incident again on the screen at the side of the pitch. He adjudges that Lemina gets the ball first in his challenge with Watkins. Therefore, the official overturns his decision.
45' + 2' PENALTY TO ASTON VILLA! Watkins is brought down by Lemina with a loose challenge and the referee points to the spot.
45' + 2' Tete times his challenge to perfection down the right flank to stop Targett in his tracks, although he gets a blow on the shin in the process.
45' There will be two minutes of added time.
44' Traore wins a free-kick on the right flank, but the delivery from Douglas Luiz is punched clear by Areola. Both keepers have been impressive in their decision-making and execution against set-pieces.
43' Villa do just enough at the back to clear their lines from Lookman's corner amid the presence of Adarabioyo and Andersen in the box.
42' Sanson returns to the pitch for the home side, but he does not appear overly comfortable.
41' Sanson is down again for the home side and requires treatment on his left leg.
40' Loftus-Cheek charges across the field from the left flank and past McGinn. He goes for a strike from 25 yards, which Mings has to deflect wide of the target.
39' El Ghazi fires a cross into the box from the left flank, but Areola is on point to punch the ball away from danger.
38' Lemina barges Sanson off the ball down the left flank and the referee awards a free-kick to the home side.
36' WIDE! Lookman blasts a dangerous ball across the face of goal. On this occasion Martinez misses his punch, but the speed of the delivery prevents Andersen guiding his effort on target on the stretch at the back post.
35' Sanson pulls back Decordova-Reid on the edge of the Villa box, handing the visitors a free-kick in a dangerous position.
33' BLOCK! Traore sees his cross-field pass intercepted by Decordova-Reid. The winger surges with speed into the box, but his left-footed strike is diverted behind by McGinn.
31' Lookman fires a dangerous cross towards the near post for Adarabioyo to attack, but Martinez is brave and punches the ball clear of danger. The Fulham defender was offside anyway, but the Villa keeper was not to know.
30' Mitrovic turns away from Mings and tries to get away from the presence of Konsa, but is fouled by the defender. There is no card for Konsa, which is a surprise after previous incidents in the game.
28' Loftus-Cheek makes a driving run at the Villa defence before offloading out wide to Tete. The full-back goes for a strike, but sees his effort deflected by Targett into the hands of Martinez.
27' Aston Villa vs Fulham is the first game in Premier League history in which every player in the starting XI was born after the first ever Premier League game on August 15th 1992.
26' CHANCE! Douglas Luiz has to hit the target! Traore rolls a corner short to Cash to float a cross into the box. Douglas Luiz rises highest in the box to connect with a header, only to place his effort well wide of the right post.
25' McGinn goes for the powerful drive from 25 yards on his left foot, but Lemina deflects it wide of the target.
23' Sanson is back on his feet, allowing the game to resume.
22' Sanson has a charge into the final third, but he gets dispossessed by a fine challenge from Tete. The Villa midfielder is down and in need of treatment after the tackle.
21' McGinn collects the resulting corner from Traore and tries to carve out room for a strike, but gets crowded out before he can threaten.
20' Traore has a run at Aina down the right flank and he wins a corner off the legs of the Fulham defender.
19' Both sides are giving away niggly fouls, although the referee is not helping the flow of the game.
18' Tete brings down Douglas Luiz in the Fulham half, but Mings is caught offside from the resulting free-kick from Targett.
J. Andersen

Douglas Luiz
Yellow Card
15' Douglas Luiz goes into the book for tripping Loftus-Cheek on the charge.
14' Decordova-Reid collects an offload from Tete down the right inside channel, but he sends his cross out of play for a goal-kick with Mitrovic lurking in the box.
12' Villa have space on the counter through McGinn. He offloads towards Watkins, but the forward sees his effort blocked by Andersen.
11' Mings and Mitrovic collide in the middle of the park and the decision goes the way of the visitors. There's going to be a tussle between those two players all afternoon.
10' OVER! McGinn has a surge at the Fulham defence and skips past two challenges before blazing his left-footed strike over the bar.
8' SAVE! Martinez has to be on the spot for the home side to palm a dangerous left-footed strike from Mitrovic past the post. The Serb latches on to a loose ball following a driving run by Decordova-Reid. He swings his left boot at the ball, directing his effort towards the bottom-left corner, but the Villa keeper reacts with a smart stop.
7' WIDE! Mitrovic causes trouble in the box as he tries to compete for Lookman's cross. Mings does enough to keep the forward away from the ball. Fulham recycle possession as Tete sends a delivery into the box, but Decordova-Reid guides his header wide of the target.
5' Lemina edges El Ghazi out of possession on the Villa left flank, but the referee adjudges the midfielder fouled the Villa man.
4' Mitrovic goes for the spectacular from distanc, but he miscues his strike and Martinez gathers with ease in his box.
3' SAVE! Mitrovic turns on the edge of the box and he hammer a low strike towards goal that Martinez gets down to save.
2' Cash floats a dangerous cross into the box from the right flank, but Watkins fails to control the ball in the middle allowing Andersen to clear.
1' We're underway at Villa Park.
Aston Villa are looking to complete their first league double over Fulham since the 2009-10 Premier League campaign, following their 3-0 win at Craven Cottage earlier this season.
Parker has made four changes to his side from their 2-1 defeat at the hands of Leeds last time out. Tete comes into the back four to replace Robinson as Aina switches to the left flank. Decordova-Reid and Loftus-Cheek return to the middle of the park as Anguissa and Cavaleiro drop to the bench. Mitrovic gets the nod in the final third ahead of Maja, who also begins the contest on the bench.
Villa have made one change to their side that was beaten by Tottenham in their last outing. El Ghazi gets the nod to replace Trezeguet on the left flank. Sanson operates behind Watkins in the final third as he is preferred to Barkley. Grealish continues to be sidelined with a shin injury
FULHAM SUBS: Tim Ream, Ivan Cavaleiro, Joe Bryan, Josh Onomah, Josh Maja, Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, Terence Kongolo, Fabri, Antonee Robinson.
FULHAM (4-2-3-1): Alphonse Areola; Kenny Tete, Jacob Andersen, Tosin Adarabioyo, Ola Aina; Harrison Reed, Mario Lemina; Bobby Decordova-Reid, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Ademola Lookman; Aleksandar Mitrovic.
ASTON VILLA SUBS: Tom Heaton, Neil Taylor, Trezeguet, Marvelous Nakamba, Ross Barkley, Bjorn Engels, Ahmed El Mohamady, Keinan Davies, Jacob Ramsey.
ASTON VILLA (4-2-3-1): Emiliano Martinez, Matthew Cash, Ezri Konsa, Tyrone Mings, Matt Targett; Douglas Luiz, John McGinn; Bertrand Traore, Morgan Sansone, Anwar El Ghazi; Ollie Watkins.
Fulham's bid for Premier League survival has hit the wall, suffering back-to-back defeats to Manchester City and Leeds United. The Cottagers begin the afternoon three points behind Newcastle United in 17th place, but a win over Villa will lift them out of the relegation zone and above the Magpies. Therefore, there is huge incentive for Scott Parker's men despite their indifferent form of late.
Aston Villa are enduring a lull in their Premier League campaign, failing to win their last four matches. Dean Smith's men have recorded only one win in their last seven matches, which has seen their European ambitions fade. The absence of Jack Grealish has played a significant role in their downturn in form and the England international is still missing from the squad. The Villains need a strong effort without him today.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League clash between Aston Villa and Fulham at Villa Park.
