Norwich City 4-0 West Brom: Canaries safe after dominant win

An impressive performance from Chris Hughton’s men saw them take all three points against the Baggies at Carrow Road and secure Premier League football for another season

Norwich put their goalscoring problems behind them to record an emphatic 4-0 victory over West Brom that secures their Premier League status for another season.

Robert Snodgrass gave the Canaries the lead in the first half before Grant Holt pounced on Ben Foster's error to double their lead.

Snodgrass was the architect of a Gareth McAuley own goal and Jonny Howson put a gloss on the scoreline with a 25-yard effort.

An entertaining first half at Carrow Road saw plenty of chances for the home side, who ensured Foster had a busy afternoon in the Baggies' goal

Snodgrass was at the heart of all Norwich's best play and the Scotland international broke the deadlock in the 24th minute. Wes Hoolahan was denied by Foster after Ryan Bennett's flicked header but the winger made no mistake with the rebound.

As the half drew to a close, Hoolahan came close to doubling the home side's lead when he let rip with a 25-yard strike that was well saved and tipped over by Foster.

Having introduced Chris Brunt and Billy Jones at the break, however, West Brom threatened early in the second half when Romelu Lukaku received the ball in the Norwich penalty area but curled a shot the wrong side of John Ruddy's right post.

The Baggies continued to carve out opportunities as the half progressed, with Lukaku and Shane Long both guilty of being wasteful in front on goal.

In the 57th minute, Norwich's Anthony Pilkington sent a cross in from the left which Foster in the Baggies goal managed to spill twice before the ball was eventually cleared.

Foster was not to escape punishment a second time, though, and Holt was left with the easiest of finishes to double the Canaries' lead.

The goalkeeper had rushed out to make what seemed to be a routine clearance but a mix-up with McAuley allowed the ball to pass them both before Holt popped up to tap in.

And minutes later the game was put beyond the reach of West Brom when McAuley's own goal put Norwich three goals to the good.

The impressive Snodgrass whipped a free-kick into the West Brom area and the ball deflected unkindly off of the Baggies defender and past a helpless Foster.

West Brom engineered their best move of the match to present half-time substitute Jones with space in the hosts' box but his shot was tame and straight into the arms of Ruddy.

Holt's superb low cross from the right was met by Pilkington as Norwich pressed for a fourth but the shot was superbly saved down low by Foster.

Chris Hughton's team would not be denied for long as Howson sent a knock-down from Becchio into the corner of the net from 25 yards with Foster left in no-man's land.
