23′ Joe Allen

Thank you for joining Goal's LIVE coverage with me Tom Etherington (tom_etherington).

The match was a decent work-out for Rodgers' side, who will now travel to Oslo to face Valerenga before meeting Celtic in Dublin next Saturday, ahead of Stoke's visit on August 17th to kick off the new Premier League season.

An entertaining game and a great way to mark Steven Gerrard's career at Liverpool. The hosts netted in each half to seal a comfortable victory, with Jordan Henderson scoring within 15 seconds of coming off the bench. Luis Suarez got a great reception from the Anfield faithful, as did returning legends Fowler and Carragher.

The captain is taking a lap of honour around the pitch, heartily clapping each and every section of the ground.

Gerrard back on the pitch to thank all the fans and those who took part in the match.

90′ +2
The referee blows his whistle for full time at Anfield.

90′ +1
The Liverpool centre-back came off worse in that challenge and is limping. The set piece hits the wall.

90′
Agger sticks out a leg and brings down Weiss on the edge of the area. Dangerous position for a free kick.

86′
Johnson plays a great pass to Suarez on the opposite side of the pitch, who applauds it before being tackled inside the box.

84′
The man of the hour Steven Gerrard receives a standing ovation as he leaves the pitch for Jay Spearing. He is not going to get his goal today but a typical solid performance from the captain. Great moment for him.

83′
Mignolet does well to save a powerful effort from Paulo Machado, which dipped at the last second.

81′
CHANCE! Gerrard sets up Fowler inside the box but the 38-year-old's effort is deflected out for a corner.

77′
Saviola tries to get through the Liverpool backline, nutmegging Carragher in the process, but Johnson manages to clear the danger.

76′
More changes here and the substitutions have disrupted the flow of this game.

74′
Who would you rather see score today, Gerrard or Fowler? Let me know on Twitter via @tom_etherington.

74′
Good defending from Agger as he denies Saviola and clears for a corner. Olympiakos look much better than the first half but still pose no real threat to Liverpool.

72′
Huge cheers as Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler replaces Raheem Sterling with 18 minutes remaining, while Coutinho goes off for Luis Alberto. Another impressive performance from the young Brazilian.

71′
SAVE! Suarez holds the ball up and plays in the overlapping Jose Enrique. The full-back goes for goal first time, but Roberto makes a strong save at his near post.

70′
Just 20 minutes left for Gerrard to score on his testimonial.

67′
Olympiakos play the set piece shot, but Holebas' cross into the box is claimed by Mignolet.

66′
Finally some signs of life in the visitors as they break forward through Weiss, who wins a corner for his side.

65′
Suarez's every move is being cheered by the Liverpool fans. He attempts a quick free kick in front of the Kop but the ball is cut out by the Olympiakos defence.

62′
Goal Jordan Henderson
GOAL! Henderson scores with his first touch to make it 2-0. Sterling plays a fantastic ball through to the substitute, who clips a clever finish over Roberto from a tight angle.

61′
Great reception for Luis Suarez at Anfield as he comes on for Iago Aspas. Carragher also gets a huge ovation, while Jordan Henderson replaces Allen.

60′
SHOT! Sterling times his run to perfection to meet a deep through ball from Coutinho and lifts the ball over the goalkeeper but it bounces narrowly wide.

58′
Triple change for the visitors as Paulo Machado, Kostas Manolas and former Barcelona and Real Madrid striker Javier Saviola enter the field of play.

56′
Liverpool once again find their way through the Olympiakos backline but Coutinho's cross is too deep.

54′
CHANCE! More great work from Coutinho inside the box as the Brazilian eludes two defenders and fires a shot towards goal but it goes straight at substitute goalkeeper Roberto.

53′
Nervy moment for Mignolet as he opts to punch a low cross at the near post when he could have probably caught it.

52′
Coutinho does brilliantly to go through a number of challenges in the box but eventually goes down a little easily. The referee is not interested and waves play on.

50′
Sterling tricks his way down the wing and beats his man, but his cross is too strong for anyone in the box.

49′
A slow start to the second half. Gerrard plays a fantastic low cross into the box but Coutinho can't quite get on the end of it.

46′
You may recognise Olympiakos substitute Vladimir Weiss. He spent three years at Manchester City and had loan spells at Bolton and Rangers, before joining the Greek outfit this summer.

46′
Liverpool get the game back underway. Playing from left to right this half and shooting towards the Kop end.

Couple of changes for the visitors but Rodgers is sticking with his initial starting XI.

The players are back out on the pitch at Anfield for the second half.

As for the visitors, Olympiakos haven't created anything going forward in this match and Megyeri has seen much more of the ball in goal than Mitroglu has up front.

Jamie Carragher and Robbie Fowler undertaking an extensive warm-up during the half time break.

Gerrard has played a little deeper than his usual role, allowing Allen to push forward and get on the end of numerous crosses and passes. I'm sure that will change in the second half though as the skipper searches for a testimonial goal.

So what did you make of the first half from Liverpool and Gerrard? The captain has shown glimpses of his trademark passing ability and has had a couple of long-range efforts as well. Let me know on Twitter via @tom_etherington.

Liverpool lead at the break after a solitary goal from Joe Allen. The hosts created plenty of opportunities and should be further ahead. Iago Aspas and Philippe Coutinho have caught the eye, while the man of the moment is getting closer to scoring the goal everyone wants to see.

HALF TIME

45′
There will be just one minute of added time at the end of this half.

43′
Maniatis whips a ball into the Liverpool box from deep but Mignolet comes off his line for a rare touch of the ball.

42′
Now Sterling looks to set up Gerrard with a through ball down the right channel but Megyeri clears the danger for the visitors once again.

40′
CHANCE! Coutinho picks out Gerrard with a fine pass and the captain manages to get past one tackle but the goalkeeper is out quickly to smother any shot.

38′
CHANCE! Another chance goes begging for Allen as Gerrard plays a fantastic first time cross into the box but the midfielder can't direct his header from close range. He could have a hat-trick already!

35′
Gerrard picks up the ball on the edge of the box and only has one thing on his mind. But his shot is deflected before being collected by the keeper.

32′
SHOT! Glen Johnson cuts inside onto his left foot before firing a fine effort just wide from 25 yards out.

30′
Liverpool go close again as the ball is swung towards Kolo Toure, who gets in front of his man and flicks a header just wide of the post.

28′
CHANCE! Another huge chance for Aspas! Agger wins a header at the far post and the ball drops for the Spaniard, who hits a first time volley on the turn but Megyeri somehow keeps it out with his foot.

27′
Great run from youngster Sterling down the right as he fends off the attentions of Fejsa, who is repeatedly fouling the winger, to earn a corner.

26′
Dominguez plants his weak effort straight into the middle of the Liverpool wall.

26′
Gerrard concedes a free kick right on the edge of the Liverpool box and Olympiakos could hit back immediately here.

23′
Goal Joe Allen
GOAL! This time Allen does find the net to make it 1-0! The former Swansea man slides in at the far post to finish a cross from Aspas. The two best players on the pitch so far.

21′
CHANCE! Great flick from Aspas sets up Joe Allen but the midfielder volleys over from close range. Should have scored!

20′
Lucas has just clattered into a tackle again, but this time he gets none of the ball.

19′
Liverpool mount a counter attack through Allen, but after working the ball to Sterling, Olympiakos get back in time and snuff the move out.

17′
Two great turns from Aspas open up good chances for the striker. His marker just gets a vital foot to his second attempt to guide the ball back to the keeper.

16′
Liverpool look strong at the back as Enrique fends off Dominguez to earn a goal kick. Not much action in the final third from either side yet.

13′
Alejandro Dominguez stays down after a strong challenge from Lucas and the referee is forced to halt play.

11′
The captain just struck one pass straight at the referee. Sore one for Halsey but both have a good laugh about it afterwards.

9′
SHOT! Gerrard tries his luck from range with one of his famous right-footed shots. But he can't keep it down and the ball sails high over the crossbar. He will be desperate to score today.

6′
Coutinho almost sets up Sterling with a long cross but the ball is intercepted just in time. Bright start from Liverpool.

4′
CHANCE! Allen makes the most of a poor pass-back from the visitors and steals the ball to set up Iago Aspas, but the Anfield debutant can't beat the goalkeeper when one-on-one.

2′
First chance of the game falls to Joe Allen, who flashes a ball across the face of goal but no red shirts can get on the end of it. He would have been better shooting there.

1′
Gerrard's first touch of the ball is greeted with a huge cheer. Liverpool just passing the ball around during the opening exchanges.

1′
Olympiakos get the game underway.

The referee today, Mark Halsey, is taking charge of his last game before he retires. He was asked personally by Gerrard to take charge of the match.

Gerrard is out on the pitch with his three children now. Getting the reception he deserves. What a great moment for the midfielder.

The teams are making their way out of the tunnel at Anfield ahead of kick-off.

Gerrard has spent his entire career with the Reds, scoring 159 goals in 630 appearances for the club since making his debut in 1998. What's your favourite moment from 'Captain Fantastic'? Get involved on Twitter via @tom_etherington.

OLYMPIAKOS SUBS: Roberto, Machado, Papazoglou, Saviola, Diamantakos, Papadopoulous, Manolas, Babis, Weiss.

OLYMPIAKOS XI: Megveri, Maniatas, Fejsa, Mitroglu, Samaris, Holebas, Menjani, Siovas, Campbell, Salino, Dominguez.

So the main man obviously starts in the heart of Liverpool's midfield, while wantaway striker Luis Suarez has to make do with a place on the bench alongside Fowler and Carragher.

LIVERPOOL SUBS: Jones, Kelly, Alberto, Skrtel, Downing, Henderson, Ibe, Wisdom, Coates, Borini, Suarez, Spearing, Carragher, Fowler.

LIVERPOOL XI: Mignolet; Johnson, Enrique, Toure, Agger; Lucas, Allen, Gerrard, Coutinho, Sterling; Aspas.

So let's see what today's starting line-up will be...

Liverpool announced on Friday that the captain's former team-mates and Kop legends Robbie Fowler and Jamie Carragher will feature in the game, after training with the first-team squad at Melwood.

The major focus will be on Gerrard of course, who scored one of the most famous Champions League goals in the club's history when the two sides last met in 2004. The midfielder netted a thunderous half-volley in the 86th minute as Liverpool came from behind to win 3-1 and progress to the next round, before going on to be crowned champions.

Brendan Rodgers' side have enjoyed a solid pre-season programme and come into this game with four clean sheets from four straight victories. Olympiakos will provide the sternest test so far though, having won the Greek Super League with ease last season.
