  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The Red Devils shot-stopper has been in spectacular form for both club and country in 2023 as she first helped United grab the runners-up spot in WSL - their highest-ever league finish - and then starred for the Lionesses at the Women's World Cup to help her side to the title decider against Spain.

Her incredible achievements powered her to the BBC award ahead of cricketer Stuart Broad, former jockey Frankie Dettori, heptathlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson, wheelchair tennis player Alfie Hewett, and golfer Rory McIlroy, which led Mount to hail her as a "history maker" in a congratulatory message for the keeper on his Instagram story.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Earps bagged the Golden Glove award in the World Cup and went on to win several accolades, including the SJA Sportswoman of the Year, the BBC Women's Footballer of the Year, and the Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year for her contributions on the pitch. She has been an icon off the pitch as well after she forced Nike to do a U-turn and stock up her jersey after the American sports manufacturer failed to make her replica keeper jerseys available.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Earps' shirt went out of stock in just 80 minutes after it was made available online. That prompted a positive reaction from the Lionesses, who wrote in a statement on social media: "Incredible support for the GK union!"
