The Kenyan Premier League produced a total of 23 goals, seven of them coming in the big scoring game of the weekend that saw Nakumatt hammer Kakamega Homeboyz 6-1.

On the other hand, Gor Mahia took a commanding lead at the top of the 18-team table after picking a fourth victory from the Lakeside City of Kisumu.

Goal takes a look at some of the events that took centre stage.

  • Ulinzi Stars Keeper James Saruni

#1 Ulinzi Stars keep poor record

Ulinzi Stars missed a chance to move joint third on points with Mathare United after they were held to a 0-0 draw by visiting Bandari FC. Afraha Stadium has been a bad battleground for the Soldiers, who have failed to pick maximum points from their last three home games. Ulinzi Stars last grabbed a victory on the home soil on April 29 against Chemelil Sugar and since then, Dunstan Nyaudo has only managed to pick two out of a possible nine points at home.

  • Gor Mahia crowned champions v Simba.

#2 Gor Mahia hit 40-point mark

Gor Mahia reached the 40-point mark following a convincing 3-1 victory against Nzoia Sugar at Moi Stadium in Kisumu. K’Ogalo opened a seven-point gap between them and second-placed Sofapaka, who needed three second-half goals to dislodge a lackluster Mathare United from the second spot. With four games at hand, K’Ogalo can rest be assured that they will still be at the summit even if they don’t kick a ball in the upcoming two rounds of matches.

  • Pistone Mutamba of Sofapaka.j

#3 Mutamba impresses on his debut

Former Wazito striker Pistone Mutamba announced his arrival at Sofapaka in a fashionable style with a debut goal for Batoto Ba Mungu. Mutamba just needed 66 minutes in Sofapaka shirt to burry home his first goal for John Baraza’s side in a win over Thika United at Narok Stadium. Mutamba’s opener, his seventh of the season, opened the floodgates for Sofapaka, who went on to scratch Thika United thrice.

  • Nakumatt v Posta Rangers.

    #4 Nakumatt humiliates Homeboyz

Just a few weeks ago, Nakumatt were laying bottom of the table as they grappled with relegation fears and unrest among players after the club almost went bankrupt following a terrible spell of financial meltdown. But the Shoppers, who were acquired by a city businessman two months ago, have since turned around their dwindling fortune with a shocker-kind of performance against Kakamega Homeboyz on Sunday. Nakumatt beat Homeboyz 6-1, the heaviest defeat by any KPL side so far this season with keeper Lukas Indeche among the scorers.

  • Ezekiel Odera of AFC Leopards.

    #5 Odera saves AFC Leopards

Ezekiel Odera came off the bench to score AFC Leopards’ opening goal in a 2-0 win over Chemelil Sugar. The Millers managed to hold Ingwe until Odera came on in the second half to grab the two goals. But despite picking maximum point, coach Rodolfo Zapata got a clear picture of what he should be working on this week; sharpening the blunt claws of Leopards, who wasted numerous scoring opportunities before Odera was thrown in to save the caged animal.
