The PSL January transfer window is about to close and a last-minute rush to beat the deadline is expected

Kaizer Chiefs have signed just one player during the current player transfer window but could they add another in the coming hours?

The January transfer window will be shut on Tuesday night and it remains to be seen if Amakhosi will sign another player to add on to Christian Saile Basomboli.

They also signed SuperSport United defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe on a pre-contract and he will only join them in July.

Mass signings are typically not expected in January, and it has been a quiet month with little activity in the market highlighted by Mamelodi Sundowns not making a single signing.

Chiefs’ Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates had two arrivals inCraig Martin and Souaibou Marou, while Ndumiso Mabena joined them as a free agent in December 2022.

GOAL takes a look at players Chiefs could bring ahead of the imminent closure of the transfer window.

  • Amancio Canhembe of Mozambique

    Neymar Canhembe - free agent

The Mozambique international forward underwent trials at Naturena in December together with new signing Basomboli.

Zwane’s decision on him is not yet known but it will not be surprising if he is announced as an Amakhosi player as Chiefs are left with two slots to fill their foreign quota.

While Canhembe’s signing makes business sense with him being a free agent, his profile works against him after he struggled to break into the top-flight league in Portugal.

  • Yusuf Maart, Kaizer Chiefs & Pule Mmodi, Golden Arrows, December 2022

    Pule Mmodi - Golden Arrows

Mmodi has been linked with Chiefs for a long while now. He started the season on fire but his form has dipped.

The Bafana Bafana midfielder has entered the final six months of his Arrows contract and can sign a pre-contract with Amakhosi.

  • Andile Jali Mamelodi Sundowns.

Another player whose contract is coming to an end at his club, Jali has been a subject of transfer speculation this January.

The experienced midfielder has been linked with Chiefs and Pirates as he appears unsettled at Masandawana who are reportedly yet to offer him a new deal.

But he has started their last two games in what could be an indication the Brazilians still have plans for him.

  • Katlego Otladisa, Marumo Gallants, December 2021

The Sundowns academy product has been linked with a big move to Amakhosi since before the start of this season.

In December 2022, his agent denied their camp is talking to Chiefs but a move to Naturena cannot be completely ruled out.

Zwane has indicated they need new players for every position and having attacking midfielder Otladisa would add competition.

  • Sphesihle Maduna, AmaZulu FC, October 2021

    Sphesihle Maduna - AmaZulu

At 23, Maduna has the age preferred by Zwane. The midfielder is also in the final months of his AmaZulu contract and Chiefs can have him in on a pre-contract.

After recently recovering from an injury, Maduna is back and featured in recent games.

  • Sibongiseni Mthethwa Stellenbosch Ashley Du Preez Kaizer Chiefs.jpg

    Sibongiseni Mthethwa - Stellenbosch

Zwane is yet to find a direct replacement for Njabulo Blom who left for Major League Soccer recently.

With Phathutshedzo Nange and Alexander Cole not regulars, while Samkelo Zwane is still struggling to cope with the demands of PSL football, this could see Zwane opting for Mthethwa.

The 28-year-old has featured in every minute of Stellenbosch’s league games this season and the Cape Wine side might not be willing to let him go as they have been struggling.
