    Preview of Africans in Europe

The title race in the Premier League could take another twist this weekend with Liverpool and Manchester City looking to take advantage of Chelsea potentially dropping points against Manchester United.

Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Riyad Mahrez, Edouard Mendy and Eric Bailly could all play starring roles for their sides in the next few days.

In Serie A, Kalidou Koulibaly and his Napoli colleagues face a daunting encounter with Jekyll and Hyde Lazio on Sunday.

    Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Arsenal were brought back to earth last time out with a 4-0 hammering at Liverpool following an eight-game unbeaten Premier League run.

Aubameyang had a peripheral game at Anfield but the Gabon superstar will yearn for home comforts against Newcastle United on Saturday, looking to score for a sixth successive game against them.

The Gunners have an impeccable record against the Magpies, winning 16 of their last 17 games against this weekend’s opponents, a record Mikel Arteta’s wounded men will look to continue at the Emirates Stadium.

    Liverpool vs Southampton

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane will look to hand Mohammed Salisu Saints another loss after last week’s defeat by Norwich City.

The Egyptian netted his 17thgoal of the season and the league’s top scorer will strive to take his tally to 12 in the PL against Southampton.

Mane scored and set up Salah in that win over Arsenal and the Senegal star faces his old side aiming to extend the Saints’ winless run at Anfield to eight.

Success for Jurgen Klopp’s side on Saturday heaps a bit of pressure on Chelsea who face Manchester United in Sunday’s big clash.

    Mahrez vs Benrahma

The Algeria stars potentially clash at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday with Manchester City confident of picking up where they left off after Wednesday’s impressive win over Paris Saint-Germain.

Riyad Mahrez was hugely impressive yet again on the night, although Pep Guardiola’s tendency to prefer him for the big European nights may see the former Leicester City man make do with a role on the bench against West Ham United.

Said Benrahma and his teammates already knocked out Pep’s men in the EFL Cup, but Sunday is a different game entirely as the London outfit aim to avoid a 10thdefeat in 11 against the Spaniard.

With City only three points behind Chelsea, maximum points takes them level with the Blues who host Man United hours after the Cityzens play.

Edouard Mendy is expected to have a busy evening when Thomas Tuchel’s side host the Red Devils in the big clash of this weekend in the Premier League.

The Senegal goalkeeper and seemingly resurgent Hakim Ziyech will strive to inflict yet another defeat on Eric Bailly — likely to start at Stamford Bridge — to move 15 points clear of Sunday’s opponents.

Chelsea are winless in their last seven PL games with United, a strange record they seek to change in front of their supporters.

  • Kalidou Koulibaly Napoli 2021-22Getty Images

    Kalidou Koulibaly

Without Victor Osimhen and Andre Zambo Anguissa, Napoli suffered defeat at the hands of Spartak Moscow, jeopardising their qualification prospects in the Europa League.

With the Nigerian out for three months and the Cameroon man unlikely to feature when Lazio visit Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, Koulibaly and co. have to step up against an unpredictable side managed by former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri.

K2’s side suffered a first defeat in Serie A at Inter Milan last time out and they could lose top spot altogether this weekend if AC Milan better thePartenopei’s result.
