Goal takes a look at some interesting stats from Monday’s Round of 16 fixture as the Black Stars bow out of the competition on penalties

    Tunisia ruled the midfield

    The Carthage Eagles were masters of the midfield against the Black Stars, making a total of 691 touches of which 75% were successful as opposed to 652 for Ghana, with a 72% of success.

    Tunisia made a total of 454 passes, more than Ghana’s 400, which explains their domination – 53.9% to 46.1%.

    The Black Stars had more positive actions in opposition box - 36 to 20; more successful take-ons - 16 to 10; and won more fouls - 26 to 15.

    In their push for a positive outcome, Ghana made 30 crosses (including free kicks) over just nine for Tunisia, who shot nine times in the box, half of the Stars’ 18 shots.

    The Carthage Eagles had to labour more in their half to fend off threats from the Ghanaians, which eplains their superior defensive stats.

    They made 107 headers compared to 79 from the Black Stars; 14 goal kicks to fourfor Ghana; seven keeper throws with just one for Ghana and seven saves to two.

    In all, Tunisia made 80 positive actions in own box over 37 for Ghana.

    Defenders from both sides committed an equal number of fouls across the meeting – eight each, while Tunisia's midfielders committed as many as 12 fouls while their Ghanaian counterparts were intercepted by the referee 5 times.
