Goal provides you with all the key dates and details ahead of the big kick-off in France, where a record 24 teams will battle for the title of champions of Europe

The wait is almost over! Euro 2016 will get under way on June 10 when host nation France welcome Romania to Paris.

The Group A clash at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis will kick off at 21:00CET (20:00BST), after what promises to be a spectacular opening ceremony headlined by Parisian DJ David Guetta.

The first full day of action, on June 11, will see debutants Albania square off with Switzerland, Wales lock horns with fellow newcomers Slovakia, and England take on Russia.

This will be the biggest European Championship ever, with the tournament having been expanded to 24 teams for the first time in history.

As a result, the 15th edition of the continental competition will feature a record 51 games (as opposed to the 31 generated under the previous 16-nation format used since 1996) across 10 cities: Bordeaux, Lens, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Nice, Paris, Saint-Denis, Saint-Etienne, and Toulouse.

The final, which will also feature a performance by Guetta, will be staged on July 10 at the Stade de France.

Spain are bidding for a third successive title, after becoming the first side to successfully retain the trophy by routing Italy 4-0 in the 2012 decider in Kiev, Ukraine.

However, France prevailed the last time that they hosted the tournament, beating La Roja in the final thanks to an inspired Michel Platini, who scored a record nine times at Euro '84.

Will history repeat itself? We'll soon find out. Let the games begin!
