History may favour the Red Devils, but Guardiola is determined to turn the tide

While Manchester City have dominated the Premier League over the past 18 months, they are yet to truly wrestle derby dominance away from United.

City have in fact won just two of their past eight games in all competitions against the Red Devils, who have in turn claimed four wins during that time.

United won their last meeting in dramatic fashion too, coming back from 2-0 down to seal a memorable 3-2 victory at the Etihad.

Being the away side has in fact become a benefit of sorts in the derby with the away team winning 17 times - the third most for any match up in the Premier League.

Though history reflects kindly on the Red Devils, the present league situation doesn't look quite so flattering with United very lucky to escape with a 2-1 win against Bournemouth last week.

In stark contract Manchester City are flying having smashed Southampton 6-1 and are yet to lose this season.

With United sitting seventh on the table, Pep Guardiola's ladder leaders haven't lost to a side outside of the top four in 53 straight games.

After scoring twice last week, Raheem Sterling will be desperate to end his goal drought against the Red Devils having failed to strike in his 12 games against them.

Current golden boot leader Sergio Aguero has also found himself drawing blank against United of late having failed to score in his past three outings.

Guardiola could well prove more decisive than either attacker having never lost consecutive home league games against a single opponent in his entire career.

Jose Mourinho would love to be the manager to break that run but must overcome his own poor record against the Spaniard having won only five of his 21 games against him.

Guardiola has helped transform City over the past few years and he'll be out to truly turn the tides of Manchester in this derby.
