In a bid to surpass their previous performances in the global showpiece, the Super Eagles will be playing five top tune-up games for the tourney

Nigeria will play five friendly games in preparation for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The Super Eagles will be slugging it out with Poland on March 23 before taking on Serbia four days later and then face DR Congo in Abuja on May 28.

The three-time African champions will also clash with England on June 2 at Wembley before their final warm-up match against Czech Republic on June 6.

Jairo Pachon, Nigeria Football Federation's official match agent said much work has been put in the planning to ensure that Gernot Rohr’s men play teams with similar styles to their World Cup oppositions.

"We've worked closely with the coach and the great support of the NFF to finalise these games," Pachon told BBC Sport.

"Coach [Rohr] stressed the importance of playing teams with a similar style to their World Cup opposition and we've got two going to Russia from eastern Europe.

"The game against DR Congo in May will afford the fans, media and everyone the opportunity to see the Super Eagles play before they fly out to Europe to conclude preparations."

Nigeria are in the Group D of the tournament and will kick-start their campaign with Croatia on June 16 before confronting Iceland on June 22 and Argentina four days later.

The Super Eagles will be making their sixth appearance in the competition where they aim to exceed their best finish of a second round exit.
