Mamelodi Sundowns Rivaldo Coetzee is fit again and raring to go as he eyes his debut with the Tshwane giants.

The 22-year-old has suffered with a long-term injury that has seen his fail to make a single first team appearance since joining the club in 2017.

This was worsened by the fact that he saw a dream move to Scottish giant’s Celtic fall through at the last minute due to a failed medical.

Nonetheless, despite a long and difficult path back to full fitness, Coetzee is looking at the positives after making several appearances for Sundowns' MultiChoice Diski Challenge side.

“It was good to be able to play again 11 v 11. It was what you always want as a footballer, for the first time in so long. It was a good comeback, starting with the Diski to get some match fitness and being able to join the first team,” he said in an interview on SAFM.

Meanwhile, Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane revealed that Coetzee had recently suffered an injury setback when it looked like he was closing in on getting his chance with the first team.

However, Coetzee has now confirmed that he has fully recovered, and is now waiting on the coach to decide when he will feature.

“It’s been fine now, I’ve been training for the past two weeks in full training with the team, so it’s no more an issue,” he said.

“It’s all up to him now [the coach] and I am hoping to get a chance to travel with the team and see what happens from there,” he revealed.

Sundowns are set to jet out to Equatorial Guinea for their first leg preliminary Caf Champions League encounter, and it remains to be seen whether or not Coetzee will form part of Mosimane’s initial squad to do battle on the continent.
