The Blues spent pre-season in Australia last summer and will now head to the other side of the world once again, with a flagship exhibition match against the Spanish champions the focal point of their tour.

Frank Lampard has been appointed as Maurizio Sarri's successor and will hope to hit the ground running on his return to the club.

Chelsea players have had to deal with losing talisman Eden Hazard, who left for Real Madrid in early June . The Belgium international had previously hinted that the move was all set save for final negotiations, admitting that a return to the Champions League was not enough to convince him to stay in West London – and departed for a fee of €100 million (£88m/$112m).

Defender Gary Cahill also confirmed he would be leaving the club this summer on a free transfer, and was given a farewell in his last home game of the season against Leicester.

The Blues are severely restricted by sanctions that have been imposed on them by FIFA, but they did manage to complete the signing of Mateo Kovacic from Real Madrid after the midfielder spent last season on loan at Stamford Bridge.
