The Phunya Sele Sele mentor admits that coming up against the Tshwane giants will not be easy as they look to advance to the next round of the TKO

Bloemfontein Celtic coach Steve Komphela is certainly not taking his eye off the ball as they are set to take on Mamelodi Sundowns in their Telkom Knockout opener this weekend.

Phunya Sele Sele recently held the Tshwane giants to a goalless draw in the league this season, but Komphela remains wary of the quality that Pitso Mosimane’s side possess.

“Not that it's tricky. The quality at Sundowns we all know and, in a situation, where teams are seeded you have no choice - you are going to get a top dog,” Komphela said of their upcoming clash against Masandawana.

Celtic reached the final of last year’s spectacle where they were eventually edged out by winners Bidvest Wits, and Komphela believes that his side must first concentrate on overcoming Sundowns before they can think of advancing in the competition.

“We need to go through the Sundowns hurdle first, the big one. We don't want to look at the end when in the beginning you are facing a cement wall. We need to go through Sundowns and then take baby steps,” the former Kaizer Chiefs coach added.

“Having been in the final last year, it gives us hope to replicate that and even go one further and win it. We have to be optimistic and we have to acknowledge it,” he concluded.

The clash is set to be played at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Tshwane on Saturday.

Celtic though, will be low on confidence considering that they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Free State rivals Free State Stars prior to the international break.

However, Siwelele have drawn with the likes of Kaizer Chiefs and Sundowns, and have registered a win over Orlando Pirates, which could give Komphela and his troops a mental boost.

Meanwhile, Sundowns are yet to hit their stride this season as they are winless in their last two games.
