The Clever Boys are looking to beat the Citizens and return to the top of the PSL table

Bidvest Wits will play host to Cape Town City in a Premier Soccer League (PSL) match at the Bidvest Stadium on Saturday night.

The Clever Boys are desperate for a victory having secured their last win at the beginning of February 2019 where they beat Maritzburg United at home.

A look at their recent matches, they lost to Highlands Park away and drew 1-1 against league log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns in Braamfontein last weekend.

Sitting at number two on the log table with 38 points from 21 games means Wits coach Gavin Hunt will motivate his troops to bag a win and return to the top.

A win will see the Students moving to the number one spot with 41 points provided Sundowns fail to win against Bloemfontein Celtic earlier in the day.

Hunt will pin his hopes on players such as winger Deon Hotto, midfielder Cole Alexander and striker Gift Motupa, who was on the scoresheet against Sundowns last weekend.

Probable Wits line-up: Keet, Hlanti, Johannes, Hlatshwayo, Mere, Scott, Alexander, Hotto, Lakay, Motupa, Murray

On the opposite side, the Citizens come to the clash looking for redemption after losing their midweek match in Tshwane.

Coach Benni McCarthy’s troops fought hard to get a point against the reigning PSL champions Sundowns, but they failed to use their chances as they lost 3-2.

Although the Bafana Bafana legend says his men did not play their normal game, he will push them to do better against his former coach to move up on the log table as they sit fourth with 33 points from 21 games.

Having had a fantastic run in all competitions where they beat the Highlands Park and Maritzburg United, before losing to Sundowns, City will bank on their hunger and avoid their second loss in a row.

Probable City line-up: Leeuwenburgh, Mkhize Seedat, Fielies, Cupido, Modise, Mokeke, Links, Martin, Norodien, Mthembu

Match Preview

In previous matches, the two sides have clashed in five PSL matches since the 2016/17 campaign and both sides have secured two wins.

Although the other encounter ended in a stalemate, Wits are yet to win at home as they suffered two losses and they will want to change all of that.

City will look to avenge their 2-0 defeat to Wits which they suffered in the first round.
