Former Bafana Bafana captain Lucas Radebe has expressed his optimism over the current crop of national team players under the tutelage of coach Stuart Baxter.

Bafana registered a sensational victory over Nigeria in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, before losing out to Zambia in an international friendly played on Tuesday night.

Nonetheless, the 48-year-old believes that since the departure of former coach Shakes Mashaba, Bafana have been on the rise again, and he has lauded the Briton’s organisational skills.

“I saw light when Owen Da Gama assembled the team that played two friendlies against Guinea-Bissau and Angola in March,” Radebe told SunSport .

“I am impressed with Baxter’s organisation, knowing the calibre of the coach he is. The team was better organised defensively going forward. He has implemented options and we kept a clean sheet for the first time in a long while,” Radebe said of Bafana 2-0 away victory.

Meanwhile, the former Leeds United star also hailed the influence of Bafana’s foreign contingent and believes that the overseas-based players add value to the national team.

“It was encouraging to see Keagan Dolly and Tokelo Rantie coming from their respective overseas clubs to add value,” Radebe said.

“That is what makes this team interesting – we saw quality and potential. The players are ready to compete and that will see us achieve our target,” Radebe concluded.
