  1. This is just the second time Newcastle and Southampton have met in the League Cup, with the Saints previously winning 4-1 in a third round tie in 1968-69.
  2. Southampton have won just one of their last 11 meetings with Newcastle in all competitions (D3 L7), winning 2-0 at St Mary's in November 2020.
  3. Newcastle won 4-1 at Southampton in the Premier League in November – the last time they won two away games against an opponent in the same season was at Hull City in 1989-90.
